What does your tween girl read?

My 10 year old has read the Harry Potter books (over and over!), the Twilight books, all the fudge books, and she is currently blasting through any and all books by Mary Downing Hahn (I think that is how you spell it)--she writes Wait Till Helen Comes and The Old Willis Place...they are a bit creepy but my daughter likes spooky type stories.

My daughter just finished 'All the Lovely Bad Ones' and loved. I bought a few more of Hahn's books for x-mas. And she read the entire Percy Jackson and the Olympians series last month. She said those were her most favorite books ever! lol

My 11 year old also has gotten hooked in the Mary Downing Hahn books. She loved All the Lovely Bad Ones and just finished The Old Willis Place.

She also finished up Boys Are Dogs.

My dd is 13 and she still loves the series by Rick Riordan (Percy Jackson) and "The Warriors" (about cat clans).

DD10 is reading the Mysterious Benedict Society (3 books in the serious), and her teacher has just given her a new book to read called Goose which she seems to be enjoying. But she loved the Benedict Society one a lot... she is re-reading them.

DD9 loved the City of Ember series. She read Holes, and is now reading Small Steps which is the second in that series (not sure if there are more beyond that).

DD is an 11yr old bookworm. She loves:

- Fablehaven series (she says it's a cross between Harry Potter and Spiderwick)
- MayBird series
- Among the Hidden series
- City of Ember series
- Once Upon a Marigold

She's not allowed to read Twilight.

My dd, 12, loved the Twilight series, and she really liked The Outsiders!! She wouldnt see the movie (Outsiders) until she finished the book, and she liked it so much, when she had to pick a person for some project at school, she chose Ponyboy I really liked that book when I was young too

I'm trying to buy some books for an 11 yo and wondering what series/titles your girls were reading. She's sensitive about books being "too young" for her...like she's the grand old age of 11 and doesn't want to read about a baby 9 yo.

At 9 and 10 dd was Junie b Jones books, read them far too fast.
by 12 she was way into the Fire Ice series By Chris D'Lacy I think the name is. Can not wait for the next one to come out.

She never got into the Harry Potter, or the witch and wardrobe.

Along these lines, does anyone know if the Gallagher Girl Series starting with I'd Tell You I Love You But Then I'd Have To Kill You book is appropriate for tween girls? My DD12 really wants to start this series, she says a lot of girls in her grade are reading them.

Someone mentioned this but my D loves books by Scott Westerfeld. He has a new book out but she loved the Uglies series.

I agree that the Clique series is great for an 11 year old. The Twilight series, however, is not. I have read them and love them, but they are far too mature with sexual content for this age. They are not for younger than high school. I have to wonder if the parents of these young girls have read them first?? The movies (so far) are fine.

The Vampire Acadamey series
The Vampire Diaries

When she wants light reading, she always goes back to her Tinkerbell books.

When I was younger I read constantly some books I read were:
The Diary of Anne Frank (A teacher gave me this because I loved learning about WW2)
Number the Stars is great as well
The Boxcar Children Series
American Girl (I loved Samantha and Molly)
Baby-Sitters Litte Sister (The Karen Series)
Just about anything by Judy Blume

Well, I can only speak for myself and other moms I know, but most have read the series or at least the last book. Personally, I could not get through the first book, it was so repetitive and full of teen angst (though I enjoyed the movie). I skipped to the last book just to see how sexy it really was. It was a lot less graphic than "Forever", which got passed around to every 5th grade girl at my school when I was 10 , and it's not like dd doesn't know what sex is, so... meh. No big deal to me.

Bella's dependence on the controlling Edward bothers me more, but dd and I talked about that aspect, and she understands the difference between fantasy and reality, so I'm not going to withhold the book for that reason.

I completely respect other parents opinions, though, and if they don't want their kids to read the series, that's fine.

When I was her age I read Ella Enchanted and loved it! I also read The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series when I was around 12 and there still my favorites to this day.
