and the question Erin asked is "Is the life you are pursuing the life you want?"

When was the last time you sat down and asked yourself what you really want from life? What makes you happy? What matters — really matters — to you? Maybe it is home ownership and 2.1 children that you want? Or, maybe instead of the suburban life, you would rather travel the world on your own and work only when you need a little cash?

What do you actually enjoy doing? What inspires you?

thoughts????

I think it is an important idea to consider. I think without this question you trudge along in your rut. You do fun things, have fun with your family, but there isn't the joy or passion that makes life exciting.

I considered this very idea about six months ago. I guess my thought was my life is awesome, great husband, great kids, great friends, but was I excited to get up in the morning. I realized that I looked forward to our family vacations and was in general happy, but I certainly wasn't passionate about my daily life. Six months later I have put my two weeks’ notice in at the office and will be pursuing my art fulltime. If I hadn't posed the question I would definitely not be in the position I am in today.

LOVE MY LIFE!!!!!

congrats on stepping out and pursuing your dream!! I think to many people just exist now, they don't live. I'm glad to see that you are living!

Another spin on that is the phrase that Oprah used a few years ago, about being your authentic self.

Pinballfamily has the word simplify in her siggie. I've been using her word to really do some self reflection about where and who I want to be.

It's a good question BAMB.

On surface, I would have to say Yes, this is where I want to be. But below the surface, am I making each day count? No, I think I do get into a rut where I am a shadow of myself just going through the motions.

I will thinking more about this. Thank you.

Good question Buffy...

I have to say recent events at work made me think about this very thing...

What would it be like to not be at the job I've had for the last 26yrs? Do I want to make that move? What defines me? Who am I really, and what is just bits that enable me to be who I am?

After lots of soul searching, and long discussions with DH I decided to stay at the job, for the advantages that it gives me and my family. However, I have also decided to reclaim myself. After a year of full time, and giving so much of myself there to the point of exhaustion with nothing left to give myself and my family, I have stopped. Funny thing is, I bet they will think I'm such a better worker. At my job, the worse your attitude, the better they think of you. :confused3

I've reclaimed things in my life. Getting my weight, sugar, and eating under control again, proof positive on the scale. I started crafting again. Basically, I'm taking care of me first, and everything else is second.

That saying, "If Mama ain't happy... Ain't NOBODY happy!"

Quote of the Day from the Mattress guy (a store down the road):

A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery while taking a detour.

It may not be the route you had intended it to be but enjoy it while following the path.

I think at one point in time we all go through the motions and the ruts. The key is acknowledging that and doing something to change it. Some people will say yes, I'm in a rut but they stay there. (that's been me for a while)

We only have one life to live, let's live it to the fullest!

Interesting question

Dh and I have been questioning our worth the last month or so. we are almost ready to retire and we are asking a lot of questions like this. We are also teachers in NJ and we have taken a bashing the last month.

I can't answer this right now but it has been on my brain.

Hey Dona! sorry it's been so rough for teachers in NJ, it doesn't seem to be an easy place to live anymore. Teachers are stuck in the middle of a tug- o- war.
I'm kind of glad my Grandma sold her house and moved into a retirement community. I miss the house though. we spent every summer there, I'm from NJ originally.

you don't need to answer right now.

It was kind of a get the wheels turning kind of question.
