What does your company give you for Xmas

At my workplace, we get the Christmas holidays off, paid. We get the day before Christmas Eve until the day after New Years Day (so this year it is 8 days). I think this is super generous as this time is not counted from our yearly vacation allotment.

It is interesting to read how many different employers handle the holidays.

I work at Target... get nothing (and no holiday party) unpaid Christmas Day off

My dh works for an engineering firm... big honkin hotel ballroom party with drink tickets and casino night and prizes. Plus each "department" goes out to lunch on their own.

His job they take the 26-1/1 off. Work pays for 2 days, PTO (employee) has to pay for the other 3

I work for one of the biggest defense contractors. I get nada. When I worked for a teeny-tiny defense contractor, the owners threw a big fancy Christmas shindig. Then we got bought by the big guys, and they also have a party, but we have to buy tickets to go. Usually my manager takes our section out for lunch or something. That's it. That's okay, the only gift I need is my contract being successfully re-competed. When I want to go out and have fun, my first choice is not hanging around with a bunch of engineers, so I skip the party.

They're called gifts, not expecteds! Looks like a bunch of (not all) ungrateful employees here. You should be thankful for your job, your luncheon, your card, your little bit of money that you received as a gift.

It's nice if you do get a little something, or a little time on the company clock to go to a luncheon or a little party that someone paid for or a little gift card or anything at all, but to expect it, to take it and then to complain about it is just wrong....and not in the Christmas spirit at all!

Another state employee....we do not get Christmas gifts or Bonuses. EVER. Like the other poster, I also had to take several furlough days off this year. All of us got together and had a potluck at a staff meeting last week. Our potlucks are not fancy, but we have a good time and everyone makes great food.

Hubby works for a small company. No bonuses there either. They to had a potluck lunch.

:confused3 I, for one, have no complaints about my job. And am very thankful. Sheesh... this was like a poll, a survey, "What does your employer give you for Christmas" How is that any different from "What are you getting your kids for Christmas" As somone else mentioned, it is *interesting* to see what others get in the workplace.

If you don't find it *interesting* as well, feel free to ignore.

Cheer up! I hope you feel better soon...

I'm a legal assistant. I got a cash bonus. We also went out today to Maggianos for our holiday lunch party with an open bar and we got the rest of the afternoon off. It was so nice :) We get Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Years Eve, and New Years Day off (paid). The partners at the firm I work for are pretty awesome.

DH gets a box of candy and chips every year.

I don't expect and will not receive anything from my employer. I do, however, like to thank those working with me with a token of my appreciation. This year, my secretary gets a kate spade coin purse $75 and a $25 Macy's gift card, and the custodian who cleans my office gets a $20 CVS gift card.

DH received a bonus. It was not expected and quite a nice surprise.

Since I have been there, the law firm I work for gives a Christmas bonus to associates and staff. They also have a big firm party for everyone in December and individual office parties/luncheon on the last day before we are off for Christmas. The managing partner of our office also had a dinner at his home for our small office, and he usually buys each person in our office a small gift. We also always do something for charity before our luncheon.

I really appreciate all they do. I've never considered going anywhere else.

I work for a dentist. We all went out to dinner and a comedy club, we got bonuses last year and I got $200, I was very excited as I only work 2 days a week.

I also work for a hospital, and I was quite surprised this year to get a $50 gift card from a group of the docs. Our hospital is very large, so each department does things differently. In my old department there was nothing, thus the surprise! My job actually overlaps with 3 different areas, so there were 5 different luncheons and one dinner out at a nice restaurant. It was all very nice, but I have already gained my "holiday weight" and we haven't even hit Christmas! :rolleyes1

Nothing at all....except for more work since it's crazy for year end.......

We use to get a holiday ham at Christmas. They stopped that and do a yearly bonus in the spring that is WAY more than the value of the ham but people still complain about not getting the ham :confused3

Each department usually does some sort of holiday lunch (pot luck with the dept providing main dishes or a meal out)

I too am happy DH has a good and secure job, but calling what we get a Chrismas bonus is, well... :rotfl2: !

We get a coupon for a free turkey (value not to exceede $10.) We get it every year. One year I gave it to a friend (her DH was laid off.) Ever other time I have sent it to a local soup kitchen to use. We don't like turkey and they can always use it. At least it doesn't go to waste.

Nothing. Actually less than nothing. State employee and the state gave me 5 furlough days, so I got -$1250 from my annual salary this year.

Me too and I work for a self supporting agency :confused3

Editing to add since I read another response: I don't expect anything since I work for the government. Usually we go out to lunch (we all pay our own) and the bonus is leaving after lunch to go home. Our department was in the news (not my little agency) so no summer picnic, no Christmas lunch this year. Might end up in the LA Times. We did have a potluck, had another agency watch the phones for an hour. People go around and put things on desks of those they want to. I have gotten a poinsettia (?sp), some little candy and a chocolate covered apple with toffee pieces on it. I'm baking this weekend so taking in cookies and candies for the people who work directly with me. Oh and some Diet Coke for my co-worker who loves it and has lost 100 lbs so far. She wants no temptations.

Nothing, no party, no bonus...nada. It's okay though.

Im a little cooled down about this situation, so I feel I can post this now. I do want to say that I am thankful for my job and I do enjoy it, but....

I am a child care specialist at an adult education building. I was apprached this week about everyone else going to be gone for a meeting and wanted to know if I could come down and make all of the kids lunches or if I rather them order pizza for us. I had no problem making our lunches. Didnt think much of it, thought it was odd the lunch lady was gonna be gone, but o well.

So that day comes and my assistant asks what the meeting is going to be about, the person laughs and says what meeting? They go on to tell us that there is a staff Christmas lunch. Hmm, we were not invited, we werent even told about it, we were LIED to about this. The whole building went, even the janitor. We were very hurt over this situation. Yes, we had children to take care of, but we do have a sub on call every day who could of been there, they did have subs for the adult teachers. I think what upset me most was that I was lied to about this and told it was a meeting. And, my boss is a very good friend of mine, one who I would consider my closest friend. :(

So, I got nothing. Was thinking maybe we would get a gift card, maybe even a Christmas card would have been nice. But, no.

Everyone else got a all you can eat catered in meal that gave them three different buffet options, Mexican, Italian, and homestyle and a variety of desserts. There was also awards, prizes, and drawings.

Today was the last day before Christmas break, which I have to take off and do not get paid for, and not even a card was given to us. Guess I know where I stand.

My company has a Christmas party (I didn't attend).

They also give us a tin of cookies and a new date planner to keep track of our work.

My husband's part-time job usually gives a $25-$50 gift card to a local grocery store (definitely comes in handy!). His other (main) job gives..... nothing.

I work for a church. We go out for lunch every year for our Christmas party, or once in awhile we'll have dinner at someone's house. The pastor gave us all a CD, book that he wrote and a Starbucks giftcard.

My husband works for Gatorade/PepsiCo. He gets nothing. No party, no card, no nothing because "the economy won't allow for those to be budgeted anymore", but Tiger Woods, Peyton Manning and all the sports stars get paid millions of dollars to do commercials
