What Does Your 5 y.o. Watch on TV?

Op, life is so different if you have older silbings. Ash is not home in the day time with K so she is watchign the same as her sisters like Zack and Cody and HM and all the Disn movies and shows like Wizards. She dos like Dora still when we take road trips home but that is it for "baby" kinds of shows.

My dd will be 5 in a few weeks. I know she is young for her age, but I can't believe she is the only kid her age that still watches cartoon type shows. She likes Little Einsteins, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Backyardigans, Dora, Diego, etc. And, course, all the Disney movies. She has no interest in things like Hannah Montana.

So what does your 5 y.o. watch?

I haven't read all the responses so I may be very repetitive here but, my DD5 loves all those shows you mentioned. However, she also loves Hannah Montana, HSM, The Suite Life, Scooby Doo and Sponge Bob. She has older brothers and that has influenced what she watches. Although I am careful to keep her away from shows such as Drake and Josh which are completely inappropriate for her age, she does like to spend time with her brothers. When she is alone she will tend toward Playhouse Disney show or PBS kids shows. Anyway, there is certainly no need to rush her choice of shows, but I think that lots of little ones who like the older shows are influenced by older siblings/ cousins and that's O.K. too.:goodvibes

My DD will be 6 in November and is an only child...well, not including my 40 year old child;)

She watches in order of favorite:

Backyardigans
Scooby Doo
Spongbob
Mickey's House of Mouse
Mickey's Clubhouse

She mostly loves movies though. All Barbie movies, My Little Pony, Strawberry Shortcake and Ariel. She also likes Bratz.

We don't watch any teen shows at all and it is fine by me!

My DD7 (to be 8 in one month) loves Suite Life (and now Suite Life on Deck) and likes Wizards...and HM. However, she just LOVES Imagination Movers. She also still watches Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Handy Manny, Doodlebops, and some others. In fact, she saw the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse toy advertised and says she wants it for her birthday. Oh yeah, and she watches My Friends Tigger and Pooh and wants a Darby doll. I like that she still enjoys these shows. She is still such a little girl and love that she still acts like it in many ways. (Funny thing is she was accused of looking like a prostitute in another thread - the OP likened BBB to making the girls look like "'hos." Oh well, you can't do everything right, I guess.):sad2:

She has two other sisters (12 and 16) that watch Suite Life, HM, Wizards...,Flight 29 Down and some others with her. I like that even my 16 has shows to share with her little sister.

We DVR the show Hi-5 ... both my DD's love it. They are 3 and 6 (in first grade). I think it is on Discovery Kids and it is the best thing we have found. They follow a theme for an entire week, so it might be adventures, or music or sports and every day the show starts and ends w/ the same song/dance for that week but w/ different takes on the theme for the core of the show. It is basically the only thing we make time to watch ... they will sit down and watch things like Miss Spider or Pinky Dinky Doo if they are on.

My DS5 watches Tigger&Pooh, Handy Manny, Mickey Mouse ClubHouse. We just got expanded cable and we now have Noggin, so he has found Maggie and the Ferocious Beast, Little Bill, Franklin and Oswald. That is about it. Of course we don't watch it all day everyday, but when he comes home from school, he can watch for a little while.

DD9 she watches spongebob, pokemon, still scooby doo that show is a classic even my DS2 likes it. She has seen Hannah Montana but she is not into it. She does like the first High School Musical. I won't let her watch I Carly its a very annoying show. She likes to watch food tv challenge and How's its made.

My DD will be 5 in December and I try to steer her to Playhouse Disney shows or Noggin. She seems to enjoy them. She also loves the Imagination Movers and the games on playhousedisney.com and can finally do them by herself.

If left to her own choices, she will choose Spiderman, Jackie Chan Adventures, Star Wars the Clone Wars (her new fave) and stuff like that. yes, she is very tomboyish. She does get to see the super hero type stuff on occassion, but that is usually when her dad is home. He also lets her watch Knight Rider--which she LOVES.

And she likes How It's Made, Dirty Jobs, Jon & Kate plus 8 and Samantha Brown. I think our viewing habits have obviously influenced her, but these shows are OK with me. Better than the scary Heroes, Fringe or Bones that her dad & I enjoy.

My biggest issue is that she is like her dad, the TV always has to be on even when they aren't watching it. This drives me nuts! I am forever turning them off and turning on music instead. There is no silence in my home. :headache:

DS (4.5) loves Spongebob but we try to limit it.

He also loves Animal Mechanicals and Bo on the Go (not sure if those are just Canadian).
He also really likes Handy Manny.

Maybe this is weird, but he LOVES Rachael Ray. He cheers when she cooks. But, we PVR it and fast forward to the cooking :)

We try to limit tv.

The funny thing is that he will tell everyone how much he loves Iron Man and Incredible Hulk - both movies that are far too old for him and he wasn't allowed to see!!!

My DD5 watches Playhouse Disney (Imagination Movers is her new favorite) & Backyardigans. She doesn't like Hannah Montana & HSM, which she saw with my nephews.

My dd is 11,and every now and then I catch her watching Little bill.
She gets so embarassed when i catch her:laughing:

We talk about this all the time at home. When my 14 y/o was little she was watching "Barney" and enjoying it until she was at least 6! (don't tell anyone!)That and the classic Disney movies were the staples of her TV viewing. She also liked the Rugrats (remember them?) but I had to always remind her that Angelica was rude and that "dumb babies" was a mean thing to say and we didn't use the word "dumb" to describe other people.

Fast forward to now and it seems there are so many more choices on, and my 6y/o is very concious of what "baby" shows are but if left alone really enjoys Sesame Street, Backyardigans, Higgly Town and Franklin especially. She will say that she likes HSM and HM and Zack and Cody but she really does not pay that much attention to it when it is on, not like how she is glued to Higgly Town in the morning!

Having said that I don't think there is anything really wrong with those "tween" type shows on Disney and Nick. Yes the adults are made to look a little foolish but they are pretty funny to me and very tame and everything ends up happy. I am glad that my older kids enjoy these shows, although they are careful about admitting it to some of the kids at school. See for 13 and 14 y/o's these shows are "babyish" and the cool shows are Gossip Girl and shows like that.

My 13y/o still loves to watch Arthur and makes sure she is up on Saturday to watch it! It is my favorite too!

DD just turned five last month and watches NOGGIN, the PLAY HOUSE DISNEY stuff, Disney movies, Barbie movies and other cartoon movies that are in theaters. She has no interest in Hannah Montana or other tween shows, and I'm glad because I feel those types of shows are geared for a child who is slightly older.

My DD6 has loved Scooby Doo since she was about 3 1/2- at first we thought she might be scared of all of the "spooky" things on there(zombies, witches, ghosts, etc.) but she never has been. She has never been scared easily though. She does watch Mickey Mouse clubhouse, The Little Mermaid, and some of the other playhouse disney shows too.

DD5 is in kindergarten and doesn't watch some of her favorites anymore since they are not on in the afternoon - Clifford, Curious George, and Dragon Tales. She does watch Dragon Tales On Demand, and I DVR Clifford sometimes. She likes Noggin - Pinky Dinky Doo, Little Bill, Little Bear, sometimes Franklin or Maggie and the Ferocious Beast. She loves to watch princess movies, but she doesn't watch Dora, Diego, or Playhouse Disney that much anymore.

She has an older sister (DD9), so she is exposed to Zach and Cody, Hannah Montana, and Wizards of Waverly Place. She doesn't prefer to watch those and generally requests something on a different TV instead of watching with her sister. Neither of the girls watch the older kid shows on Nick - Drake and Josh, iCarly, Zoey101 - I don't liek the content. Coem to think of it, I'm not really fond of Zach and Cody, Hannah Montana or Wizards either! :rotfl2:

She does like High School Musical (the music more than the storyline), but she isn't obsessed with it.

My 5 yo old does occasionally still watch some Playhouse Disney, mainly Handy Manny and the MM Clubhouse. He likes SuperWhy, Word Girl and Sid the Science Kid. We watch alot of Veggie Tales too. I have been trying to keep him away from a few of his favorites, Max and Ruby and Calliou, since he tends to emulate the slightly bratty Max, and whiney Calliou. DS, DH, and myself all enjoy Phineas and Ferb.

He likes most animated Disney films, and currently (due to The Great Movie Ride, lol), is into Singing in the Rain, Mary Poppins, and John Wayne Movies.

My kids are 10 and 7 and while they do prefer Hannah Montana, Suite Life and Wizards of Waverly Place, I still occasionally catch them watching Little Einsteins and Mickey Mouse Club House. All kids like those shows even if they won't admit it.

I agree. And my kids are 11 and 14! LOL I still catch them watching those shows, Dora, Blue's Clues, all the pre-schoool Disney shows.

My DD is almost 5 and has really eclectic taste in tv. She loves playhouse disney, could care less about Hannah montana ect, but her real love is superhero cartoons. We have 2 seasons of Justice League on DVD, and one of Superman. She also likes Batman, spiderman, Ben 10, ect. Anything with a superhero. She loves to watch Mythbusters on Discovery with us along with How its Made. She watches most of the science type shows on discovery, but I have to watch the scary factor on some things.

My oldest turned 5 in March and still mostly wants to watch cartoons or like she calls them kids shows. If the show has real people in it she says it is for adults. There are a couple movies she has watched like Wizzard of Oz and Little Rascals that she likes ok but there is no non-animinated TV show she likes. Unless you count Deal or no Deal - she loves to yell NO DEAL :lmao:

My dd 5 watches playhouse disney, noggin, nik, pbs, etc. I try to keep her from watching drake and josh, icarly, hannah montana, etc. I do think she's a bit young for those kinds of shows. She varies from day to day on what channel she'd like to watch in the morning. My son still loves to watch noggin shows as well as all the rest. His favorite is wow wow wubbzy. I don't see any reason to rush into watching the tween shows...she plays with the dolls and knows all about the shows isn't that enough :confused3 :rotfl:
