What Does Your 5 y.o. Watch on TV?

DD will be five at the end of the month and she doesn't like to watch anything live-action. If it's not animated, she's not interested!

I only scanned the thread, but my 7 year old DD still watches cartoons. :thumbsup2

We watched Bob the Builder and Wishbone this morning (we watch a lot of PBS because we don't have cable) - she watches Cyberchase, Fetch with Ruff Ruffman, Sid the Science Kid, and Word Girl after school. She also likes Pokemon (thanks to a 16 year old brother!). She also likes Martha Speaks and Curious George.

The other night she wanted to watch a Dora video but told me I can't tell the kids in her class because they'll think she's a baby - I told her that as long as she enjoys it, she can watch it......

This is so reassuring!! Mine is 7 also, and the only thing he watches that I think is really geared to his age is Scooby Doo! I wish there were more "just right" stuff, but I guess I should count myself lucky that he's choosing down instead of up, and I don't have to worry about language, violence, etc.

He still loves Curious Geoge, even though he's seen them all, and the new Martha Speaks. (I wish he liked Wishbone, that you mentioned, but has never gotten into it.)

Sometimes he even goes for the shows he liked when he was smaller - Max and Ruby, mostly, but lately a couple of times even Blue's Clues. My theory is that the "bigger" real life is at any given time - harder topics in school, or something going on with a friend - the "litter" shows he chooses for down-time.

I was kind of worried he would soon run up against some teasing, like your DD mentioned, so it's nice to know some other kids are doing the same thing.

My dd will be 5 in a few weeks. I know she is young for her age, but I can't believe she is the only kid her age that still watches cartoon type shows. She likes Little Einsteins, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Backyardigans, Dora, Diego, etc. And, course, all the Disney movies. She has no interest in things like Hannah Montana.

So what does your 5 y.o. watch?

Same here. She'll be 5 at the end of Oct. And she only likes the fluffy Disney movies..like Aristocats, 101 Dalmations etc. She interchanges High school Musical and Hannah Montana when we see those things in the store..she only knows of them from her 6 (almost 7) year old cousin. I'm fine with that.

I'm been trying to get her to go to the Beauty and the Beast Show at Hollywood studios but she prefers Playhouse Disney.

My DD loves anything with singing. One to watch in the AM is hip-hop harry or High 5. And of course SpongeBob.

DD is 4 and she loves playhouse disney, especially handy manny, and mickey mouse club house. She also likes word world on pbs, but her favorite show it dancing with the stars. She watches it with me every week. She loves the cosutmes, and she will put her dress up clothes on and dance around the room.

My DD (5, almost 6) has no interest in the HSM, Camp Rock, Hannah Montana movements. She still loves Dora, Blue's Clues, PBS, Toon Disney, Nick, Boomerang Channel (classic cartoons), Little Bear, Playhouse Disney, etc.

Her cousin is 6 and is obsessed w/ the "tween" shows on Disney. There's nothing wrong w/ the shows, but my DD doesn't really "get" the story lines a lot of the time. IMO, she has plenty of time to grow up and watch those shows.

I have a dd4.5 & ds7, so dd is influenced a bit by her brother, although she also has her own opinions. Her current new favorites are Care Bears and Angelina Ballerina. She also likes Toy Castle, Dora, Strawberry Shortcake, Diego, Wow Wow Wubbzy, Bakugan, Scooby Doo, Tom & Jerry, and probably a bunch I'm forgetting. She was on a big Playhouse Disney kick after our WDW trip, but that seems to have worn off a bit.

Ds likes Bakugan, Tom & Jerry, Scooby Doo, and has just discovered Total Drama Island (which I am trying to discourage), Johnny Test, and the Secret Saturdays. He was very excited that Clone Wars started, but he has actually been watching Johnny Test and Secret Saturdays more - I think Clone Wars was a little scarier than he expected.

Dd likes Hannah Montana from commercials and stuff, but has no interest in the show, which is fine with me.

My 5 year old daughter still watches Playhouse Disney, Noggin, Nick Jr and Cartoon Network. Her favs are Chowder (cannot pull her away from the TV when that is on), Ben 10, Total Drama Island, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Little Einsteins & Scooby Doo. She even rediscovered PBS when we were stuck in a hotel room for a week after Hurricane Ike.

She has watched Zach and Cody and said it was ok, but she cannot stand Hannah Montana (which is fine with me because to be honest that girl annoyes me).

I think they grow up too quick as it is, that I am fine with her watching the younger shows for as longer as she wants :goodvibes

My 5 YO DS likes a lot of Playhouse disney shows...Imagination Movers is the new favorite, also Handy Manny and Tigger and Pooh. He also likes Dora/Diego, and the Backyardigans (my personal fave of all the kiddie shows!).

The only real "grown up" thing we have let him watch is Star Wars (Episodes 4, 5, and 6). I have been pretty picky about what I'll let him watch on TV and sometimes I regret that one.

It's funny now, because he'll see something at the video store (say, the Increditble Hulk) and he'll point it out and tell me that it's not "appropriate" for him...he knows I won't let him watch just anything. :rotfl:

Your 5 yo sounds just like my 5 yo, EXACTLY!!!!

My ds is a boy so he likes a lot of the superhero shows. I try to steer him towards more kid-oriented things. He loves this one called Super Why which is educational. He also really likes Little Einsteins and Martha Speaks.

Just my personal opinion, but Hannah Montana is not for 5-yr-olds. In fact, I don't let my 8-year-old watch it. It's a little too much about "cute boys" and preteen/teen attitude for my liking. Last year several of the girls in her class went over-the-top with trying to be just like the show and were calling boys on the phone, saying they were 'going out with' or 'dumping' boys, dressing sexy for the boys, wearing make-up to school, etc. They're only little once, KWIM?

My DD knows not to ask for Bratz dolls. If she sees them on TV or in the store she says, "I know we don't buy those. They have a bad abitude."
