My dd will be 5 in a few weeks. I know she is young for her age, but I can't believe she is the only kid her age that still watches cartoon type shows. She likes Little Einsteins, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Backyardigans, Dora, Diego, etc. And, course, all the Disney movies. She has no interest in things like Hannah Montana.

So what does your 5 y.o. watch?

My DD 5 loves the Disney channel. Sometimes she's too cool for the preschool toons, but other times she devours them. This morning was the first time in a long time that she has watched - and enjoyed - the Doodlebops. Her preference is Hannah Montana and High School Musical. It's like she doesn't realize she's not a preteen yet. :lmao: Kudos to you if you can keep your daughter away from Hannah. My DD has become a bit snotty and I find her speaking like Hannah...and she's not always the best role model. I think Hannah treats her father fairly disrespectfully on the show, but I suppose she acts like most teens...

My 5 year old watches Curious George and Handy Manny. Occasionally MMClubhouse or Little Einsteins. No Hannah Montana, HSM or anything else :) We do limit our daughter's TV watching though :goodvibes

My daughter is 6 and still watches Playhouse Disney. :thumbsup2 No need to rush into the tweens. :)

I agree. Well, except for the 6-year-old daughter part. My little girl is a few months older than four and JUST discovered Imagination Movers. She can't get enough of this show. She still loves Mickey Mouse Clubhouse as well as the books for bedtime. She has a tool box that, when she helps her dad around the house, has Felipe, Stretch, etc.

She will tell you, however, that she LOVES "High School Musical" and that is due to the Disney Marketing machine. She saw the commercials for about a year and never actually saw the movie. Finally, we rented it and watched it once. But I digress. . .

I wouldn't worry about it.

My son will be 5 in dec. He watches whatever. He loves Spongebob, Scooby doo, Ben 10, Johnny test.He will also watch whatever is on that his 3yo brother is watching, or his 8yo sister is watching. So he does end up watching a variety of programs from Go Gabba Gabba to Wizards of Waiverly Place(my new fave!).
To be honest im quite leinent about what they watch, I really dont see the evils of tv the way some people do.

My DD, who is 5 1/2, still watches all those shows. Playhouse Disney is her favorite. Thank goodness. She has never seen Hannah Montana or High School Musical. Children grow up too quickly as it is, I don't want to encourage her to watch things intended for an older audience. I was in a group of women recently where we were discussing the fact that so many of today's shows geared toward children depict the adults as being idiots. The children are soooo much smarter and pretty much in charge. That is not how I want her to think things are or should be.

Okay, I'll get down off my soapbox now. So, I say no, don't worry about her still being into those shows.:thumbsup2

My kids are 10 and 7 and while they do prefer Hannah Montana, Suite Life and Wizards of Waverly Place, I still occasionally catch them watching Little Einsteins and Mickey Mouse Club House. All kids like those shows even if they won't admit it.

My DS in 6 and I really miss the good ol' days of doodlebops, wiggles, mickey mouse clubhouse ect. He's now mainly in to, drake and josh, the suite life of zack and cody, hannah montana ect. Good thing I have my 18 month old for the disney morning cartoons. He started going towards these types of shows right about when he turned 5.

My son 5 loves all those shows also. But he isn't that normal lol He loves watching ghost hunters on Sci Fi When I was pregnant I used to watch scary movies all the time and when he was a baby he used to lay on the couch with DH and I and watch Ghost hunters. He doesn't scare easily . But his new favorite show is the imagination movers

I would win the worst mom of the year if it was based on what my DD6 watched on TV. As a PP stated, I am very relaxed about what she watches on TV and when there is also my DS13 and my DD16, my DD6 never gets to watch the little kid shows anymore. She watches all the Teen Nick stuff, which I have seen is a bad influence on her, but I think it is too late and she is now 6 going on 16. She LOVES Spongebob, I Carly and Drake and Josh and she is counting the days until Oct. 24th for High School Musical 3. We have no school that day, so I told her we could go to a matinee that day. I just really think that there are much bigger things to worry about and fighting over TV shows is not worth it in my opinion. With 2 teenagers in the house, I have learned to pick my battles carefully and believe me, bigger kids make bigger problems.

My 5 year old son will watch just about anything. We find we have to limit his tv watching or he'd be there all day!

He doesn't have any favorite shows- he watches cartoons on PBS, Disney, and network tv. He also likes Suite Life, Hannah Montanna, and Wizards of Waverly Place. He'll also watch sitcoms we're watching, which we usually have to discourage since just about every sitcom has something crazy in it! Hardly any family sitcoms any more. Now I feel like I'm getting old, saying that!

DD(5) still watches Sprout, Nick Jr., Noggin, Playhouse Disney and the local PBS station. We Tivo most of what she's allowed to watch, so I just zip through the commercials, mostly so I don't have to justify yet again why we're not buying Moon Sand or Pixos or anything else. I do not let her watch iCarly, Hannah Montana, Zack & Cody, or anything like that. I think those shows are rude and I now see why my mom HATED 'You can't do that on television' when I was a kid. :rotfl:

She does watch Scooby Doo and some superhero cartoons with her dad, but I try to keep the tv off as much as possible. It's a battle sometimes, but I'm a mean mommy. :thumbsup2

Oh, and she loves watching House Hunters with me. I don't get it, but my co-worker's DS(5) loves watching it with his mom too, so I know mine's not the only one.

My 5 yr old DS watches Playhouse Disney but has started to complain about it (he has 3 little brothers and sisters so its on anyways LOL). He loves Disney movies - mainly scary ones -- The Haunted Mansion, Nightmare Before Christmas. He loves Casper, Scooby Doo. We do like some Sprout shows and a few PBS shows. Really though, my son is addicted to YouTube

My 5 year old sister watches Playhouse Disney when she's home with just Mom after preschool, and then Suite Life, etc when her older brothers get home from school. She prefers the cartoons, which is fine with us, seeing as her language is a bit delayed (we adopted her from another country when she was two) so we figure the little kids shows teach her more.

My son is 6 and he will watch Playhouse Disney with his little brother(and sometimes without!). He does like to watch stuff like spongebob, transformers & scooby doo. I am glad that he's not into the bigger kid stuff yet. i want to keep him a kid for as long as i can!!

Our DD5 mostly watches PBS. She loves Arthur, the Berenstain Bears, Word Girl, and Sid the Science Kid. She also likes the Playhouse Disney shows and Recess. She has never seen Hanna Montana, etc. She really has no interest in those kind of shows.

My ds (5) is not a huge Playhouse Disney fan, but he does like MMClubhouse. He would watch the Dis shows if they were on somewhere, but much prefers PBS and Noggin. He loves Curious George, Sid the Science Kid, Miss Spider's Sunny Patch Kids, Franklin, Arthur, Pinky Dinky Doo and even Maggie and the Ferocious Beast. (He doesn't watch them all in the same day, but those are the ones that I notice he has on when he goes looking...he loves knowing how to use the remote!) He has absolutely no interest in the tween stuff.

My dd will be 5 Christmas. She watches Noggin or Playhouse Disney, loves Max and Ruby...has no interest in other things. My 5 yr old niece does not watch any cartoons, everything is the older kid disney programming...BUT she has an older sibling who watches that stuss, my dd is an only child, and plays with kids her own age so maybe that plays a factor.

I only scanned the thread, but my 7 year old DD still watches cartoons. :thumbsup2

We watched Bob the Builder and Wishbone this morning (we watch a lot of PBS because we don't have cable) - she watches Cyberchase, Fetch with Ruff Ruffman, Sid the Science Kid, and Word Girl after school. She also likes Pokemon (thanks to a 16 year old brother!). She also likes Martha Speaks and Curious George.

The other night she wanted to watch a Dora video but told me I can't tell the kids in her class because they'll think she's a baby - I told her that as long as she enjoys it, she can watch it.

She likes High School Musical too - I don't mind it (it's so much tamer than most other live action stuff she could see and she knows about boyfriends/girlfriends, again thanks to big brother). Since we don't have the Disney channel, she never sees Hannah Montana!
