Hi!
My DD will be 1 in a month :cake: and I know soon people will be asking me what to get her for her birthday. My DS was never that into toys, but DD is so I was just wondering what suggestions you all have for what we can tell people to get her...

THANKS! :thanks:

I have two boys, so the gift I suggest is not very girly. ;)

My first son received this tractor for his first birthday.

Admist the piles of presents he played with it the most. It has been one of his favorite toys ever since. Now my second son is approaching a year old, and it is his favorite toy.

I do not know they attraction. They have Fisher Price toys similar to this tractor, but they do not hold the same appeal. After watching Baby Einstein's Baby Mac Donald dvd; I noticed this tractor was featured. Since then this toy has become very popular.

All the animals make their appropriate sound when placed in the wagon. The farmer sings "Old MacDonald" when placed in the driver seat. And the tractor is self propelled when the smoke stack is pushed. The horn also beeps and headlights flash when you push the steering wheel.

Being a self-confessed toy snob, this little toy receives high recommendations! :thumbsup2 I hope your daughter has a great first birthday! :cheer2:

I noticed to the right on the web page linked above their is now a safari version. Hmmm might have to purchase that for DS #2 1st birthday!

My DD is 1 today! Hard to believe it. She likes to play with DS 4 toys, and he is always trying to get me to buy something "for her" though its a boys toy. Anyways, DD love mermaids, including Ariel so I got her one of those little cars you sit on and push with your feet. It has Little Mermaid characters that spin, light up and play music (got that at Toys R Us months ago and havent seen it since-glad I got it). I got her a Little Mermaid doll, LM mega blocks set (they do have other princesses in those items), LM bath toys (Disney Store), and heck I cant remember the rest. My mother in law found a great mermaid stacking toy (looks like a mermaid doll but comes apart in sections). I think she also got her a puppet, Leap Frogs One Touch learning toy (like the older kids version that reads to them ??).

My daughter loves to play with DS's Leap Frog letter magnets on the fridge so we got her the farm animals. I want to get her the cogs and wheels set too (not Playskool as you cant move them around much). The other thing she loves is the house toy by Fisher Price. It has two sides and there are so many things that do something (open close window, door, drop balls into the rain spout, turn the clock or address marker, ring the doorbell, turn on off the light-and it either plays music or tells you what youre doing). It runs around $60 but she and my 4 yr old love it.

If by chance you have a Publix near you, order one of their awesome bday cakes. For the 1st bday, you get a free smash cake (smaller cake the baby can attack). I cant wait to see DD do that today. DS never liked to get his hands dirty so we missed out on that.

LOL! :rotfl: We have this tractor and it probably is the ONE toy DS played with as a toddler! :teeth: I will have to see if I can find all the pieces and offer it to DD - bet she will LOVE it!

Thanks for all your advice though - I can't wait to go shopping now!

My 1yo DD loves anything to do with The Little Einstein's and The Wiggles. She also loves books -- her favorites are the Todd Parr board books; peek-a-blocks, jumbo Legos and wooden puzzles.

HTH!

We got ds a ball popper from Target for his 1st birthday. It has an air blower that pops balls out the top. It came with 10 balls. It takes 4 "D" batteries. I think it was 19.99.

He also received a leapfrog drum and a little people jet and he plays with those, but he plays with the ball popper the most (that is, when he's not dragging out the skillets, tupperware, remote controls, spatulas, etc.)

DD#2 will be 1 in 3 weeks. Here is what she is getting:

Playsilks
Gertie nubbie ball
Gymboree bubbles
Laugh and Learn Home by Fisher Price

party: :bday: :cake:

Boards books. At that age, my DD didn't really play with toys. She just loved to sit on the living room floor with a pile of board books. We could literally, just leave her there for an hour & she would just go thru them, one page at a time, looking at the pictures.

We had a party for her on her 1st b-day & when people asked what she wanted, "board books" was our only response.

Happy d-day to your DD!!

All of these have been big hits with my Isabella ( she is 15 mos now)

Fisher Price Learning Home : She got this at Christmas and still plays with it everyday.

Touch and Feel Books

Peek-a-blocks

Learning Table

Toy cell phone, keys, mp3 player: The "Parents" brand makes great one. The trick is to have all the toys look real.

Hokey- pokey Elmo

LOL! We have this tractor and it probably is the ONE toy DS played with as a toddler!

:rotfl: That is so funny! What is the appeal of that toy? It baffles me!

One thing I am buying for ds#2 is a bubble mower. He just took his first steps on Thursday  so I think the push toy will be great for him.

btw: i noticed from your screen name you are an RN. I am too. :thumbsup2 i've worked in ob for 5 years now since i graduated in 01 (got lucky). it's kinda hidden in my screen name. ;)

My son also recieved this ball popper (by Playskool) for his first birthday and he still LOVES it 6 months later. He just pushes a plunger and the music and popping begin (and the best part-it has an OFF switch :teeth: ).

DS also loves board books of all kinds. Maisy Mouse, Sandra Boynton books (Moo, Baa, La La La,; Horns to Toes; The Going to Bed Book), Sheep in a Jeep, Goodnight Gorilla, etc. were/are hits.

Happy (early) Birthday to your DD :cheer2: .

- Playskool Ball hopper is a big hit in this house, even for the adults.
- Also any Fisher Price Laugn N Learn product. We have a lot of them. My son loved the house, we really called it the front door.
- LeapFrog products. They have two that go on the Fridge, one is animals and the other is letters. He got them both for his 1st bday. I think he could do the animals one first. He also likes the Leap Frog drum and driving one.
- Books, can't go wrong with books.
- Gift certifcates to get pictures done or stride rite shoes.

That's all I got for now.

Remember that choking is a huge issue at this age and sometimes others forget this so suggestions to them is a great idea!!!

DS loved his foot powered ride on tractor by Little Tykes, his climbing block by little tykes, and his push popper by fisher price. He loved those books that play music when you push the button, he loved any kind of hardback book in fact. He really enjoyed stuffed animals that made noise too. I think this was the year he got a regular size wagon and LOVED being pulled in it. It is also a good year for an outdoor baby swing. Little Tykes and Fisher Price both have nice ones. A small sand box with a cover, a large ball, some bath or pool toys. A box of the largest crayons and some large sheets of paper might be a good first creative toy.

Have a blast and enjoy your special day!!!!

When my 4 and 3 yo dd's turned 1 they got Bitty Babies, they still play with them and LOVE them. They also loved the little people dollhouse, not sure if they still make that one. Coloring books and fat crayons are always good, washable finger paints are always fun and make for some good pics. Have fun and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

my daughter loved her FP people when she was 1. she also loved the peek a blocks. she also loved carrying her dolly! other then that she just like books to drool on :)

I bet she would like to play with her Aunt. I also bet she would like to play with her Bitty Baby. What do you think? Maybe her godmother will get her cool toys....????????
