What does "walking" a ressie mean

So, I've been walking a reservation for a few weeks for my dec 3-11 trip (bwv and blt std) and the cm just told me that it's not allowed?! She said they"monitor" our memberships for that, and no one at dvc would recommend walking.

I only have 2 more phone calls to make, so it's not a big deal, but she was pretty pissed. Did she make that up bc she's on the "it's unethical" camp?

They might not like it, but it is allowed. DVC has never said it was not allowed. People have been doing this since they changed booking from 7/11 months from the end of your stay to 7/11 months from the start of your stay. That's been a few years.

And in another post today someone said MS assisted them on walking their BWV GV for thanksgiving 2016. I responded To your other post that this wouldn't be the first time a CM was condemning something that was allowed. Previously it has happened for renting.

It's kind of like the "you can't rent your points" comment some owners get from MS.

Thanks... I felt pretty bad for a few hours- chastised and awful, like I was doing something illegal. She actually commented that I had a lot of cancelled reservations every few days and asked why. So, I explained I was trying to make sure I got the dates I needed for dec. 3-11. I didn't volunteer the information so much as responded to her question as to why I was cancelling so much.

Anyway..... Two more phone calls and I'll be done. The reason I started walking was bc I would check and see the std 2bd for BLT and bwv were almost always taken the day of and day after the 11mo window opens- so I got scared. I only have 400 points, and I want to use them wisely for a trip with my best friend whom I haven't seen in 4/5 years. Usually we book 1bds but this is a really important trip for me

I heard on one of the podcasts I listen to that ms are discouraging/watching people who walk their reservations now. It sounds like people are still doing it and getting away with it - but I wonder for how long. They made it sound like it's something they are going to try to control in the future. I guess we'll see and time will tell...I know what bummer it is to not get the dates you want.

That's interesting because to secure my ressie for next Nov, MS suggested how to do it. His advice was to make sure I got the first day and figured out how many points I would need to get it. I only made one call, and the person I spoke to to make the change was fine. I had never done any walking before, and I explained that we really wanted the grand villa the week after Thanksgiving. He explained how to do it. That's why I find it odd that another MS person is suggesting that they frown on it. I did exactly what he said, which was log on Christmas day at 8 and reserve on line. I then called yesterday and moved the reservation forward two days. I was able to add a day.
I used to have mixed feelings about walking. But once MS suggested it, I figured they were helping me to get what I wanted. And both times, MS couldn't have been kinder or nicer on the phone.
