What does trip insurance cover?

I am driving/flying (not sure yet) to Orlando on December 26th. My dd performs at half-time of the Capital One Bowl. Will be going to Disney and Universal also.

The non-refundable cost will be a little over $2,000. Will trip insurance cover the flu? If I get sick on the 25th and can't drive or fly down will it be covered? I don't want to lose $2,000.

It should- depending on the policy. You'll need to see a doctor and the doctor will have to fill out paper work (and fill out all the paper work). Who is the policy with? We've had AIG Travel Guard, and they were great (it took a while to get the money back). My parents also used them and had no problems.

I haven't bought the insurance yet but I need to find a company soon.

We leave on 12/21, we take the Flu shot every year me dh and 2 sons 10 & 13. We will be taking our flu shots on Sept 30 it is supposed to be good for 90 days (just found this out last year, have been in health care for 15 years):surfweb: I have never gotten the ins. before but have it bugeted but I'm still on the fence about it. I did insure the out going flight with Delta at the time of purchase. I think I may be a little worked up with being in hurricain season right now and wanting to be more cautious. We are talking like 6k on the line.:scared1: Still on fence.:santa: My boys and dh have asthma, I ended up in the ER on our first trip, my health ins. covered and it did not effect our vacation. I guess what I'm really worried about is my dh's elderly father and something happening to him and us having to head to North Carolina quickly. This feels like therapy just, getting this off my chest. Sorry this turned out to be so long.:3dglasses

90 days seems kind of short for a flu vaccine. I was told a person is protected for an average of 6 months.

I am concerned with sickness and bad weather (snow) playing a part in this trip. Never traveled in the winter before.

There is a great online site for purchasing trip insurance. I prefer to purchase mine that way. It seems to cover more for less cost. I have used them many times in the last few years. It will allow you to choose between many different companies and policies. If you want to know which company I use you can pm me...or just google travel insurance.

I agree 90 days:scared1: I was diagnosised with the flu in late Jan 08 I told my MD that I had taken the flu shot she stated that the vac. is only good for 90 days:scared1: and that the fact there are so many strands of flu that I was not covered as much as I had thought.:surfweb:

My flights are Texas to Atlanta to Orlando:teacher: , weather should not be an issue for us.:santa:

look at www.insuremytrip.com You can see exactly what is covered and what isn't. The larger problem than a sudden illness is the preexisting condition clause. But yes, something like the flu should be covered as long as your physician says you can not travel.
