What does this week mean to you?

I was listening to talk radio yesterday and the talk show host was saying that he thought that the week between Christmas and New Year's was so depressing. And that staying up and and welcoming in the New Year on NY's eve was depressing also.

To me, this week is a time of reflection, to sit back and enjoy yourself. I also do some "spring cleaning" to get ready for the new year. I look forward to the coming new year and what it will bring, whether good or bad.

I don't see it as depressing. But it is usually pretty cold!

I love the way my house looks after all the Christmas decorations are put away. I love watching my kids (and DH) play with all of their new Christmas gifts.

Denae

Edited to add - I love spending all my Christmas gift cards!

This is the week I think "Everyone and their brother is off work, but me!!!"

Then the kids start to get on my nerves and I look at the calender and think "Theyre off for ANOTHER WHOLE WEEK? Absurd"

Quite honestly - Christmas stressed me out. I look forward to the 'coming down" of the holidays.

Time off from work, family time, my birthday, and the start of a new year, new me.

I'm a teacher and have had this entire week off. For me, it's a time to catch up w/family and friends, see some movies, go out for relaxing dinners, hit the mall for after-Christmas shopping, read and relax. I keep myself too busy to get depressed! The only thing I'm depressed about is having to go back to school on the 2nd ... DS has that day off!!!!

AMEN!!

A lot of people take this week off though, so work is quiet at least (hence me typing this right now )

I also agree that it's a great time to clean and rest. This week I cleaned out my living room closet and started on the bedroom one, and cleaned the floor in the living room, and threw out a lot of junk. I even went to the gym twice! :thumbsup2 We'll see how long this lasts :lmao:

This is one of my favorite weeks of the year. Everything has settled down. I get to sit back and enjoy my Christmas decorations and enjoy the kids playing with all their new gadgets and toys. There are no obligations to be anywhere and it is just a quiet peaceful time. DH does have to work but he is happy with the bowl games beginnning. We will celebrate the new year coming in with a few friends then spend January 1 watching football. The decorations will be put away on Jan. 2.

I agree. Normally, the work week is slow...not a lot going on, so I come in late and leave early. (This year, unfortunatley, I have a huge deal closing on the 4th, which I worried about over Christmas weekend and will continue to worry over this weekend.) I work full time, have three kids, do the holiday decorting, shopping, wrapping, cooking. Then, DH's birthday is the 26th. We're having people over tonight. THEN...the holiday work will be done!!!!! I love it. I love New Year's Day....DH and I sit in bed and watch the entire Rose Parade on HGTV.

This is one of my favorite weeks of the year!:thumbsup2

I clean out closets, drawers, etc.....currently on the "junk drawer" in the kitchen.
Going to paint dd's room tomorrow.:yay:

Have a couple of homemade margaritas and some appetizers and watch the ball drop!I love it when the year rolls around.

I'm with that majority here. I am off this week, so I enjoy lazing around with DD and sprucing up the house, doing all those little things I put off all year around the house. New Year's Day is the ultimate in relaxation. We are leaving to go camping today and will be coming back New Year's Day this year, so the relaxation will be delayed a bit.

I'm kind of on the fence about this one. I am off this week, too, but I am playing "catch up" with all the stuff I can't do when I am working. My DS is getting married in July, so I have been booking a hall for the shower, getting favors for the table and trying to keep my head above water.

06 was a tough year for me. My SIL passed away from lung cancer, my FIL died on the 4th of July and I lost my very best friend to breast cancer on Sept. 13th.

I am trying to live by the mantra, "Let go of the Bad and hold on to the GOOD." but some days are tougher than others.

Today I am taking down the tree and going to just veg the rest of the day.

Being a teacher, I get 2 weeks off and don't have to go back until the 9th.

I love the whole holiday season. All the prep that goes into Christmas and the day itself is so special. For my family and me, it continues right through into the new year. We clean, we cook, we eat, we rejoice, and we celebrate what we have as a family.

My boys are 13 and 14 and are the best guys to hang out with and have this time with. Won't last forever, so I'll wait and feel depressed and gloomy when they grow up, and I have all this time alone without them. Until then, this will continue to be, the best time of the year. I do so feel for people who are not able to feel the same way.

This week is a nice time to be with my family, though they're so close that I'm never really not with them. Work-wise, it's a week from hell with all of the returns, but shopping-wise, it's the start of the Bath & Body Works Semi-Annual sale, which to me is like another holiday in and of itself.

I love the week between Christmas and New Years. I always take off from work so I can spend the entire week with my kids. I just hate that it goes by so fast. My depression hits when it's all over and we have to get back into the routine of work, school, and activities. Also, the kids have no school on the 2nd, but I have to work and I'm dreading it. I don't use a babysitter anymore and it is so stressful trying to work with the kids around. :headache:
