What does RSVP mean to you?

When you see RSVP on an invitation, what does it mean to you? Do you RSVP whether you are going or not? Do you RSVP if you are going? Or do you only RSVP when you are not going?

however - many of my family members decided NOT to RSVP to my wedding at all...when I called them I either got "You know I can't make it!" or "You know I'll be there!"

RSVP means reply no matter what. "Regrets Only" is used when you're only expected to reply if you can't go.

It means respond in either case. I hate it when people ignore RSVP's on invitations that I send out.

RSVP means someone is going to feed me in exchange for my gift, check or a tax deductible donation.....

So, i tell them whether I am going or not so they know how much food to order....

I am glad that you all feel that way! But apparently there are quite a few people who don't. This is the third year in a row that we have sent out party invitations for DS's birthday and no one has officially responded. It just makes me nuts!

RSVP requires a response either way -- anyone who doesn't think so is misinformed.

when I planned my daughter's bat mitzvah I ordered "response cards" to be included with the invitations. response cards usually have a place to write "will" or "will not" attend.

even then, I had to make a few phone calls.

of course, one of my friends had a legitimate excuse for not responding -- the post office never delivered the invitation!

I call to say if we will be there or not. And in the 7 years that I've been hosting birthday parties for 3 kids, rarely do people call to say they are not coming. Drives me nuts! How are you supposed to know for sure how much food to buy and how many party favors to prepare?

I always respond unless it says "regrets only". I have given quite a few parties and usually never got many responses to RSVPs. I quit putting them on our party invitations and usually plan for 50% of those invited to attend. Unless, it is one of my children's parties, and I know most of the kids invited are going to attend.
