When I am looking at the resale listings, I often see that it says double points. What does a listing that has double points mean?? It doesn't appear that the prices are much different from the other listings. Sorry if this is something I should understand already, but trying to research DVC is like drinking out of a fire hydrant.

Double points means they didn’t use the previous years points allocation and they banked them into the next use year. Ex 100 - 2020 points were not used because of Covid to they added them to their 2021 points for a total of 200 points to be used in 2021. If the 100 points from 2020 aren’t used in 2021 they expire. However the 2021 points can be banked forward into 2022

It should mean that there are current and banked points with the contract though it often also shows this way when there are only current UY and forward points but the calendar year has changed.

Thank you, I was thinking that is what the reasoning was behind claiming double points, but it was not very clear it was that simple.

So, if I purchase a plan with double points and I'm not able to use all of those points in the year they are available, do I bank the unused points to the next year? And, are the points used on the next trip automatically the older points being used first?

Sorry, one more question. How many years can a bank points for? (i.e. 2020 points not all used in 2021, can they be banked in 2022 along with the 2021 points?)

You can only bank points into the next use year once.
you cannot double bank points

Extra answer: you can use banking and borrowing to move points up or back one use year. banking and borrowing are final transactions - once moved, the points will expire if not used to complete a stay during their new use year.

Another scenario; if you make a reservation using borrowed points, then cancel the reservation, those points remain in the year they were borrowed to. That's why you would see fewer 2022 points than 2021 points on a contract. Those borrowed points have to be used in 2021, but the 2021 points from the cancelled reservation can be banked into 2022.

Confused yet? Sounds like you need a vacation. Have you thought about DVC?

Edit to say: that's kinda what chalee94 said - sorry to repeat.

LOL, if this is what owning DVC is like then I'm not sure...
It’s a learning curve but once you get the hang of DVC lingo it gets easy to manage the points. Right now too with Covid some normal dvc points things have been paused but should return soon. Right now you can only borrow 50% of your points from the future year, because of the concerns that’s there’s more points at play due to the resort closures and vacation cancellations. You can also cancel last minute with no penalty on your points because they don’t want people to travel sick with Covid.

The good news is you don't go on vacation all that often so you do have time to think about it and strategize how you are going to use your points. I will say though, we had a long-term strategy for our points and that got pretty scrambled when we decided to extend our stay on-property at the last minute (didn't want to stay off-property with COVID happening). We should have rented someone else's points instead as LOTS of people we cancelling and points were getting pretty distressed - could have got a really good deal renting and preserved our points.

Just another complexity - I realize that just made things more confusing. Sorry.
