What does FedEX do if you're not home?

I have something being delivered this week by FedEX. I wont be home all week and am wondering what they do. I live in an apartment building with exterior doors -- the thing is apparently 90 pounds, would they walk upstairs and knock on the door? Do they leave a sticky note on the door saying when they will return? I know what UPS did was send me a card in the mail saying I had to come claim the package from the shipping facility. Thanks in adavance as I am a little worried about it being sent back.

Do you have a rental office that accepts packages?

If you know when they are coming, I would put a note on the door telling them what you want done with the package. That is what I do and it works.

Ask AllyandJack! They leave a note even when she is home!

I think they will leave a note that they are going to make a second attempt - and they will tell you when they will return.

Some shippers will sign a release so FedEx can leave the package without a signature, but I definitely would not want to do it with somethin valuable.

I second the idea of leaving a note to deliver the package to the office, if that's possible. Then make sure the office knows about it, and will accept it on your behalf.

When we lived in an apt, our office always accepted the packages for us, and UPS would leave a note saying the package was at the office. When we got married, and were at our honeymoon (at WDW), we gave the office permission to put the packages in our apt, which was smart, tons of stuff showed up. When we got back, we had to unpack, do laundry AND unpack the wedding gifts. It was like we just moved in :/

I've always gotten a notice on my door saying to come to the FedEx store (a 10 minute drive away) to pick it up. I trust that more than if they were to leave it on my front steps.

I WAS home and Fed Ex just left a blank "1st attempt" notice. No instructions on where to get it. No time for their return. The jerk never rang the bell. It was medication in a freezer pack that I was supposed to start Friday night. The automated thing said they weren't coming back until Monday. :furious: We called and yelled (and threatened) and they sent him back. This time, we met him at the door. He already had his "2nd attempt" thing all ready to hang on the door.

Ha...it's my Famous Fed Ex Story! :rotfl:

The form has spots for them to fill out how to pick it up or when they plan to try again, but mine never did. He just checked off "1st attempt" and that was it. The rest of it was blank. I never would have noticed it if UPS didn't show up and actually ring the bell. I was getting that package when I noticed the Fed Ex sign.
