Well the "D" can be for Disney or Dear and the "H" is husband, "W"wife, "S" son, etc.

I've found that http://www.urbandictionary.com/ is a great resource when I encounter an abbreviation I'm not familiar with. For example, I didn't know what IIRC stood for and had to look it up.

I just don't see it saves that much time for me to write "DH" rather than "my husband". I'll keep trying to decipher all these abbreviations.

I think the abbreviations became popular with texting. It's easier to type "my husband" on a grown up keyboard than it is when your thumbs are using a mini-keyboard on a cell phone.

The abbreviations that are hard for me to figure out are the ones the military uses. Our son-in-law is in the army reserves and our daughter keeps using the acronyms -- they've become second nature to her, but it's like hearing a foreign language.
