curious if its the same as here in the states (slang for police officer). The reason I'm asking has to do with the ad for Lost currently running in England. There is a reference to a cop that has some of us here confused. There are a few explanations but I'm not satisfied with any of them. Wondering if there is an alternate meaning. this is an ad made for england, it was never shown here.

ad is here

Thanks. damn, thought I was on to something there.

As far as I am aware the meaning here is exactly the same as it is there :)

If you can be more specific about what you are finding confusing then I might be able to help :)

I think the confusion comes in as to who the voice over is referring to. I don't want to give too much away in case some of you are planning on watching the show. :)

Ahhhhh, yes I have been looking forward to seeing this after reading some good write ups.

Maybe once I've watched a few episodes I will join the ranks of the confused

"Cop" or "Copper" is also slange for a police officer in the UK.

Other meanings for the word 'cop' are:

To 'cop' out, meaning to give in or avoid doing something.

To 'cop' off with someone, meaning to have a sexual encounter.

To 'cop' it, meaning to get in trouble or be arrested.

To 'cop' hold of, meaning to take hold of.

Not much 'cop', meaning not very good.

The word 'Kop' (spelt with a K) is often used as a name for stands in a football stadium, usually behind the goal. e.g. Liverpool Kop

Hope that helps :)

see, now those would make sense, except for the fact that the line is, "One of us is a cop." lol.

Just watched the trailer (its also showing in our cinemas before War of the Worlds), and like you, having seen the full series of Lost, I am a tad confused with the "one of us is a cop" line.....can't think of why they might say that, unless they are counting the US Marshall that was returning Kate as a "cop" ?

I am really pleased that Channel 4 are promoting Lost so much, its a wonderful series, kept me gripped all the way through....but what an absolute disgrace its almost a year behind the US in brodacasting it.

I suspect if it is popular then we will quickly see the next season (if there is one) on one of the satellite channels witrh the usual 5 or 6 week delay :)

Cop isn't a bad slang word for the Police , I'vebeen called a lot worse :umbrella:

ooh when is LOST starting!? How exciting!!

from what I've read it starts August 10th. :)

LOST is absolutely brilliant. I've managed to see all the episodes from Season 1 already. ;) Can't wait for Season 2 to start!!
