What does " Bump" mean on these boards?

I have read many threads that just reply as "Bump". What does this actually mean? Sorry, I haven't even gravitated over to the "text message" era, so pardon my ignorance?

The reply will "bump" the thread back up to the top of the forum. Sometimes on a busy forum it doesn't take long for a thread to get pushed to the second page where not as many people will see it, so posting a reply will push it back to the first page. Hope that helps!

I got caught on the rent/trade forum because I didn't "bump". So if anyone is over there make sure you bump your post every 7 days or close it. 2 strikes your out.....
