What does a high MPV mean on a CBC?

Just wondering. I'm assuming it's okay.

My MPV was high.

Thanks in advance for any info. :sunny:

I will admit I do not understand these types of posts.

The best answer is to call your physician and leave a message for him or her or speak to a member of the physician's nursing staff.

My humble opinion

I did call him and got the following response "The Dr. said that everything was fine." I do not know what the MPV test is and I thought someone here might be able to shed some light on the situation.

I guess the nurse at my Dr.'s office is too busy to answer a simple question from a patient about a high result on lab work.

I'm sorry but I don't know what any of this means. I thought you were using DIS-speak and talking about Disney Vacation club or something!

Yikes, YachtClubWoman!!!! There are lots of medical folk who read and post on these boards - they often are glad to answer a medical question of this sort for another poster. Why agonize over something when a Diser might be able to alleviate a little anxiety???

It's your Mean Platelet Volume, a measuremet of your platelets, which have to do with clotting. I'm an RN, not a doctor, if you have questions call your doctor, you shouldn't be expected to understand your lab reports.

Thanks so much for the information.

I did call the Dr. back and simply asked what the test was for and why it was high.

He explained that while it is high, my other platelet numbers are fine.

I can't believe the office person acted like such a witch. I don't think calling to ask about a lab result is really that out of the ordinary.

Thanks, again. :sunny:

The witch was probably your doctors nurse and she has no right to treat you that way. I've had similar experiences with my doctors nurse. She called to tell me I needed surgery after an abnormal PAP smear, and when I had too many questions for her she sighed and said "people have this surgery every day, it's really not that big a deal."

I'm a nurse myself so I know better than to treat people like that. You have every right to ask questions. That is what they are there for! I would mention it to your doctor if I were you. I'm glad everything is o.k.
