What do your kids buy at US?

Hi there!

Now that we're about 3 months away from our first US trip :woohoo: I'm starting to think about more "specifics" and getting excited!

I'm wondering what your kids usually buy at US? Mine always spend tons of money at WDW on pins and usually a stuffed animal or seven  We're trying to figure out what sorts of things they might want at US so we can think about how much money to give them. We told them we'd buy them each a t-shirt and the rest is up to them... I was thinking $100/each- would that cover them? Keeping in mind that they will be responsible for paying for their own snacks (lollipops, ice cream, etc...) whereas they're used to using "snack credits" at WDW so this will be a new expense for them.

Any thoughts on this would be great!!!!

Well, I usually buy all the snacks... my ds has bought various things at different ages. When he was about 4, he was thrilled with Thing 1 and Thing 2 figures and a bucket of dinosaurs. On our most recent trip at age 11 he bought an pewter Egyptian cat figure, a Hulk t-shirt, a set of Simpsons figures, and a giant Simpsons cup. There are certainly various types of stuffed cuties -- and rides that empty into gift shops. How many days will you be there? It's pretty easy to spend $15 a day on snacks, depending on when you structure your meals, or if you eat a big lunch and just snack for dinner...Also, if you have AAA you will save 10% on virtually every purchase if you show your card (even at the snack carts!). That will help a little. On our last trip over Thanksgiving pretzels and churros were B1G1 at the stand in front of Beetlejuice, so that was a great deal, and better than saving 10%!

My 5 year old got all excited about the E.T. dolls/stuffed and decided to get one smaller (baby sized) and one larger one. Other than that my girls weren't too excited about buying much at Universal- they didn't care about the guns from Terminator or MIB- they aren't into those things...at IOA there were a few more options...Both of my girls wanted a "thing" and my oldest got the thing 1 and my youngest got a thing 2. They both got shirts to match.

A lot of the churro and pretzel stands have good deals- such as buy one get one 1/2 off or even buy one get one free. We did that a few times. There are 'candy stores' all over the place and my girls each picked out treats a few times- thing one and two rice krispie treats were $3 each- they had good caramel apples ranging from $4-$8- but they weren't as good as Disney caramel apples (wow, Disney's are much better- but Universals are ok)...

IOA has a lot of Dr. Suess things that are fun- depending on what age your kids are. Each of my girls also liked Jurrassic Park for some shopping- they each got a smaller dinosaur- which was made with this realistic-like rubbery material. They are pretty neat and I saw a few other kids buying them too.

Our 5 year old granddaughter loves the 'bag-o-rocks'... you know the fill the bag with as many as you can ones... she has to get a bag everytime we go. Lately it's also been the 'diamonds' (hanging around Marilyn a little too much...). She has gotten all the colors and the various sizes... and suckers, don't forget the suckers!! She does have her Jurrasic Park dinosaur head on a stick that she terrorizes the dog with.
