Say if you were altering a clipboard and you wanted to seal it, what do YOU use? I have been using Mod Podge, but I don't really like the look of it. I wanted something smooth and glossy for a finish. Any ideas? Thanks
Well, not sure of the brand name off hand, but I bought it at my LSS. I always use a thin layer because I print my own digital photos and I don't want them to "run". I usually use a foam brush (the MM kind) to apply it, is that correct? I am not really sure what the problem is, but I just don't like that "look" after it dries...you can tell that a foam brush was run over the pictures with something, know what I mean? LOL (I am horrible at explaining this, right? )
I was just wondering if anyone uses something else to seal it? I did just buy some stuff at the hardware store that the woman said would be great for things like clipboards. I haven't checked if it is acid free though. I did a sample and mounted a picture to a piece of cardstock and then sprayed it with this stuff and it seemed to work, but a corner pulled up when I checked this morning.
well there are different kinds of mod podge...there is a glossy kind, a matte kind and one for paper.
what doesn't look right to you? can you see brush marks, is it cloudy, or do you think it might be a matte finish?
at a class at cku the instructor told us she uses a foam roller that she got at home depot to apply it so you don't see brush strokes. i did that and i got a bubbly texture...maybe due to too much on the roller.
See the bottom right hand picture? The funky light is the shadow, but see how you can 'see' the brush marks? That is what I mean. I just checked my Mod Podge and it is Matte Finish. I think you discovered my problem. Maybe I need the glossy kind?
i have never used the matte finish, so i don't know what to tell you about that? who is the clipboard for??? i'm sure they will love it and not even notice that spot...we are always more critical of our own work.
i have never done a clipboard, but i swear, they say many thin coats, and they apply it with those foam brushes...maybe get a real wide one so you don't have to make so many strokes.
The clipboard I made just as a "test" one! LOL I am just going to keep it and hang it up somewhere in my scraproom. I am going to try the wide brush next time, I think you might be right about that! Thanks for all your help!
When I Modge Podge I usually seal it afterward with a clear acrylic spray sealer.I use a brand I get in Walmart by Plaid...it says Patricia Nimocks Decorarive Crafts on the can.
It comes in gloss or matte which I've used both depending if I wanted things shiney or not.
I Modge podged flower pots for Erich's teachers last year with different things I printed out on my computer, then sealed them with about 4-5 coats of this gloss spray sealer. They looked really good! I got pictures of them around here somewhere,I'll have to get them on the web so I can post them here.
I like your clipbaord...is that a Pats design I see there?!?!
I'm ready for football!!!
so on the flower pots you did, you just used the spray sealer???
on the spray sealer, is Patricia Nimocks Decorarive Crafts the company name or is that what it is called??? and you use this after the mod podge? how many coats of the sealer?

I covered the pots entirely with the modge podge first as I was decoupaging the pictures on.It's kind of hard not to get that stuff all over! Then after that dries I used the spray sealer...about 4 coats of it.
The spray sealer is by Plaid...it says Patricia Nimocks Decorative Crafts on it too.The can is the size of spray paint. The label is white, bright blue and black.Sealers are usually by the glues in the Craft section in Walmart.
Too bad your Titans are not playing my Patriots this year, eh...Uhhh TG for small favors!!!! I know we're in the rebuilding stages... this year ain't gonna be pretty!!
