What do you transport your groceries in?

I can't come up with a system I like for this. What does everyone else do? We drive to Disney, as it's only about 4 hours for us, and take all our groceries with us. I don't ever have much cold stuff, just milk, cream cheese, cream for the coffee and a few other things, which I take in a small cooler.

But I always have TONS of other stuff - 2 12 packs of coke, pop tarts, bagels, cereal, capri suns and juice boxes, bread, snacks for in the park like granola bars, peanut butter cracker packs, etc., bananas, apples, fruit cups, peanut butter and jelly, potato chips, coffee, and the list goes on and on.

I tried to take it all in extra suitcases, but I don't have that many suitcases. Once I used copy paper boxes, but they seemed so bulky. I've never taken all the stuff in grocery bags.

What does everyone else do? And do you put the 12 packs of coke, water, and juice boxes into a larger box, or have bell services get them all separately?

Sometimes we use the hip hugging laundry baskets - they can hold a lot of weight

Thanks

it is a 20 hour drive for us, so I use a very large cooler. i freeze most of the water to use in the cooler plus have cold water for driving and for the first day before we can get into the room. Other grocery stuff we put in grocery bags, pop goes under the seats. We stop at Walmart on the way down to get the rest.

Plus I am bringing the food for the trip down and paper plates etc.

Nothing special, there may be a better way.

Well I'm one of those "old hippies" who take cloth bags to the grocery store with me, so that is what I pack my groceries in for driving to WDW. Aside from being kind to the environment, they are REALLY strong and don't tear and spill all your stuff. It is also easier to fit them into corners of available space than boxes are, as long as you're not mashing the bread!

A substitute would be strong canvas tote bags, like the DVC bag many of us received.

We took the most when we stayed at OKW and had 2 strapping teenage boys carry them to our rooms (DS and DNephew). I think I would have been a little embarrassed to have bell services handle all that.

Good idea on the cloth bags - you are right on how strong they are - thanks for the reminder

Cheers

We used a Rubbermaid or similar tote when we drove down last summer. The bellman just put it on the cart with the rest of the luggage when we arrive at VWL and brought it up to our room for us. No problem at all. However, we drove to a grocery near WDW for perishables....milk, eggs, etc.

We don't drive, we have to fly, so we shop when we get there for most stuff. I do bring tea bags, coffee filters, laundry tablets and softener sheets, which I just tuck into my suitcase.

It would seem to me that one or two of those Rubbermiad type tote boxes would be ideal for non-perishable groceries. They are easy to pack, stackable, and can just be brought up like luggage.

Q: What do you transport your groceries in?

A: I usually try to take them out of the cardboard case, and put them in a cooler full of ice.

Have fun!.......

I use those new collapsable crates and then flatten them for the rest of the trip. They work great :)

marley, where do you get those collapsible crates? I'd love to hear more about them!

Laundry baskets (for clothes mainly...suitcases are annoyingly too small) and plastic tote boxes and a plug in cooler and the canvas bags and two computer bags and a camera bag. Of course, we do have a pick'em up truck bed that we can fill.

Of course, after our last trip we decided we're going off site to buy perishables anyway, just grocery shop while down there...its still cheaper than 1 meal out and the food is much better prepared. :)

We fly. My DD likes to freeze the lunchmeat that her girls like, and we bring that in a diaper bag. It is usually still very cold by the time we get there. We pack coffee (the individual pre-packed
coffee that you can make a whole pot of coffee with.) a box of sugar packages, laundry sheets, the laundry soap that is in individual packs, and dishwashing squares for the dishwasher. We wrap them all up in plastic grocery bags, and put in our suitcases. That way coming home we have all that space for our DWD treasures!!! Then we buy the soda & milk at the general store, or if someone has a car, (My DS, usually drives.) Then we go into town. We get mostly breakfast stuff, soda, milk & Kraft Mac & cheese singles for the kids.
Can't wait!!! But I don't want to wish the summer away either! :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

hoosiergirl,

I have found the collapsable crates at both Home Depot and Walmart. They are great!! The are usually multi-color and can hold quit a bit. I think they are around $4, maybe a little less. I use mine all of the time. I have packed heavy stuff liked big jugs of drinking water but I wouldn't suggest loading them down with too much weight (like lots of soda cans or bottles). I usually fill half with heavy things and then half with like cereal boxes, condiments, snack bags, etc.

Good luck! I'm sure you could also find them in an organizer store as well but they would probably cost a little more :)

Great idea with the Rubbermaid tote! It would be larger and easier to lift (because it has handles) than a copy paper box. I did use the copy paper box in the room as a "toy box" for all the stuff my nephew accumulated during our trip, so could use the Rubbermaid tote for a toy box, too.

What few things don't fit into that could go in my DVC canvas tote.

Thanks!

We have a luggage carrier, the folding kind they used before afforable luggage with wheels and telescopic handles. I plan to wheel around our rubbermaid totes and coolers and everything else on this as it has a bungie type cord that holds things on. Our totes are already too full to carry by hand any distance. I picture the 9 of us looking like Eddy Murphy and his enterage in "Coming to America", except more like the Beverly Hillbillies. I'm sure it's going to be embarrasing how much stuff I have packed. We'll still be moving in when it's time to leave. LOL!
