What Do You Think of Twilight?

I don't like it, I read the book and thought it was stupid. A 5 year old could read it and understand what was going on, it's just too simple. There's no suspense, what's going to happen next is SO obvious. The movie was horribly acted on all accounts and was even more dreadful than the book.

Having said that, I much prefer the pairing of True Blood and the Sookie Stackhouse Series.

Haha, I actually know a 6 year old who had to read it for school. That says a lot.

I think the biggest problem with these books is that people take them far to seriously. They need to be read at face value, for entertainment purposes, not as a preaching on how to live your life.

To go against the arguement that it "teaches that the most important thing in life is having a boyfriend. edward is a stalker. jacob sexually harrasses her. it encourages domestic violence as bella wakes up the day after the wedding covered in bruises. and something about how it has taken in so many people seems very off to me." These situations add to the drama of the books. They appall people but it keeps you reading. This is not an old technique, as authors are always writing about touchy subjects and how their characters choose to deal with them, is not necessarily the way the reader should deal with them.

I love the series, for me it wasn't about thevampirism at all. I really liked the love story, and the extreme measures they had to take in order to make things work between them. I am a romantic at heart and I think that this story was very creative and well done.

The first movie actually was the biggest dissapointment for me. Maybe it was written for the fans, but the script-writter did a poor job of picking out the most important aspects or quotes from the book itself.

Wait, so then do you read everything at face value?

That's just an excuse to ignore all of the messed up stuff going on in them. Honestly reading the books at face value would make them even worse. There is not enough going on and you'd get so bored by Bella's constant depression that you'd just stop. Seriously, there's not even a hint of a plot until like the 200th page.

When I first read the books I did start by reading them at face value but still couldn't ignore the disturbing stalker bits. Ew. :scared1:

I think the biggest problem with the books is how quickly people get attached to and emotionally involved with them. Which I know, is the point of the books, but I think it's terrible. That's why you get Twilight Twihards and Twilight Moms, and girls screaming and crying over them. I got caught up in them when I first read them but then I realized how bad they really were, and what a bad influence the books were. Seriously, is there anything or anyone in there that can be portrayed as a positive?

The "love" story is pretty much just
Bella: He's so hawt, OMIGODDDDDD!!!!!
Edward: I wanna eat her...but I won't.
Yay happy couple rides off into the sunset. :headache:

I have absolutely no interest in Twilight. I tried to read the first book but got bored with it, honestly the vampire idea does not bring me in or interest me. I have alot of friends who enjoy them and respect that but I also have friends who are anti- Twilight for numerous reasons.

*sigh* Can't you guys just start a hater thread?
This is an opinion board, i mean...And your opinions are all the same, so...

I hate Twilight with just about all of my being.

I read the books when I was around 15. They suck. I mean that in a derogatory way. Then I saw the movies because my friend needed a buddy to see them with and I was less impressed. I liked the movies better only because they spent less time talking about Edward's breath and they were over faster. I seriously HATE on Twilight. I'm in college now and I took a public speaking class last semester. My final persuasive speech was Anti-Twilight........and it got an A and lots of the girls in class were asking me questions afterwards and were really surprised at some of the stuff I pointed out during the speech. If anyone wants to hear it, I can post it on a new thread.

And Kristen just looks drugged all the time.

i personally like twilight excepting its faults cause i like drama romances but i would absolutley love to hear the speach

i hear u all saying that there is nothing or u cant find any thing that any body should like and i understand ur points of view but listen to (or read them) mine
bella is an outcast and i can relate to that
edward is a weird and mysterious person or being to her
it is romantic advernturas and wrong all at the same time

No offense, but that is just downright annoying. Why would anyone HATE a book/movie series so much that they actually write anti-speeches about them??? To hate it with all your being is just wrong...And it seems like your showcasing your hate. Which also, is very annoying. I understand if you don;t like it...OR if you hate it- but don't make it all "looky-looky I hate twilight!!!" that's so obnoxious. I'm sorry to be rude, but I'm stating my opinion...You stated yours, so I guess I should have rights...

People have a right to rant about hating it. I do the same thing. All I ever hear about during these twilight movie releases is how hot those guys are. If you don't like what people have to say about it just ignore it. They have perfectly good reason to hate it.

i agree u have that right but ease up a bit please everyone always hates it causee of the fans and i am not like that i own all the books but no merchandise and i think jake is hot but not in a creepy stalker way i agree u have the right to rant but please ease up

I know what you mean. The right is there, but you just gotta have the line you shouldn't cross.

It's not if you go about it the right way.
A girl in my English class, who actually happens to like Twilight, wrote a speech around the same thing. It centered on Bella being a horrible character and a horrible role model. This girl likes the series, but realizes everything that's wrong morally with it.
It was a wonderful speech, and she won third in our province for the oral competition.
It talked about the negatives without being negative. It was a fun speech, and introduced me to the saying:
Don't be Bella just to get the fella.

ok so this proves in the world there are twilight obsesees ( twihards twilightaholics ...) fans who like the books alone (or movis alone ) regular fans no sides haters and those who are truly against twilight

even thoughit may seem like the only fans are creepy stalkerish girls that only dream about robert pattenson(eww) or Jacob there are, as this thread has shown, fans that arent obsessed, dreamer that dont fantasize and followers that aren't stalkers

i know why you hate this book and i will admit it is not a very good book to plan your life with but if you hate it due to the fans i understand

so wether you like it or not thanks for sharing your opinions

sorry must add this hilary i love your sig.

I just hate it when people seem to hate something so much, they rant on and on about it and showcase it, like thats all they wanna talk about- How much they hate it...
I wasn't talking to any of you I was talking to her...

These thing's got on my nerves...

"I hate Twilight with just about all my being."
"I seriously HATE on Twilight"
"my final persuasive speech was Anti-Twilight"

It's seriously like she's proud that she hates Twilight so much. I strongly dislike Justin Beiber...VERY strongly, but I'm not going to:

Hate him with all my being,
Hate on him constantly,
or
Write an anti-Justin Beiber speech for an assignment or in my free-time!!!

You totally have rights and I'm not in the least bit offended.

I hate Twilight because it teaches wrong morals, goals, and etc to the people reading it, and negatively influences a lot (not all) of its readers. And the fact that Stephenie Meyer is making money off of it disgusts me. It's not "I hate vampires, I hate Edward, I hate Bella" for me - it's "I hate convincing young girls that stalking, abuse, and controlling behaviors are equal to passionate love". I didn't state my feelings about Twilight in that way in my post, which I apologize for. I have a lot of emotion behind it because I myself have had a stalker situation too, so it's very personal to me.

No I don't read everything at face value, but this book is clearly a book for entertainment purposes not a how-to book on the perfect way to live your life. The fans are passionate about the book, they love the story, they love the characters, they love the romance, the heartbreak, the conflict, and the vampires.
As I previously said, the technique of using uncomfortable situations that 'normal' people would find "creepy" only enhances the connection and comfort they have with each other, that she is not affected by this.
I sound stupid writing that, but it's what happens when you attempt to dig deeper.

Obviously your burning hatred for the novel is only going to keep your hold on claiming the book is terrible, and saying everything is "ew".
