What Do You Think Of This(Dr office situation)

Today I took DS to the pediatric dentist office...which BTW, is filled with all Mickey & Disney stuff. I was going nuts. But anyway, the exam rooms are upstairs, and all sort of open. Like 2 chairs are in one area in plain view of each other, and other chairs are together too. There are no real "rooms" I guess you would say. As we were finishing up, a mother and 2 kids came in....with a dog! I was shocked that an animal that sheds, or any animal for that matter, would be let into a medical office which is supposed to be a sterile environment. Im allergic to dogs so I was very glad we were just about leaving when he showed up, but even if I werent, I cant imagine laying there with my mouth wide open thinking of dog hairs flying around in there. Its bad enough people bring their dogs into stores, but I thought the Drs office was just a bit much.
What do you think?

I would not have been happy. Did you check with the office staff to see if this is a regular thing? If it is, I might look for a new peds dentist.

I'm allergic too, and it would have really bothered me!

Rita thats what I was thinking. If its a guide dog it should be in there but not a family pet. What kind of dog was it?

As long as it wasn't a guide dog or some type of service animal, it's inappropriate. I love dogs, but that's just odd. There are a lot of people (especially kids) who are afraid of dogs, not to mention allergies.

Was just going to ask the same question. Unless it was a guide dog it shouldn't have been in there for all the reasons you stated.

First thing that entered my mind also was that it must have been a guide dog. Otherwise, it is inappropriate. I work in a medical office and there is NO WAY that a non-guide dog would be allowed into the office.

No, it definitely wasnt a guide dog. It was a smaller dog(not really tiny, but not big either) and the woman was holding it.
They hygenist who was working on DS looked really nervous when she saw it as if she was thinking someone was going to get in trouble for it. The doctor asked "Is that a REAL dog?" I think everyone was just so surprised to see it, that they didnt know what to say. I made a comment(to the hygenist, not the dog owner) that I was glad we were leaving since Im allergic(said very nicely, almost jokingly), and she very seriously said "Thats what I was thinking, what if someones allergic or something?" It must have been one of the receptionists downstairs who let it up, but I cant figure out why they would allow that.
Even a with a guide dog the thought of it would still be yucky, but I can definitely understand why that would be allowed. I just wouldnt want to be there at the time and end up not being able to breathe.;)

YIKES!!!! WE are not even allowed animals in the Hairsalon and that is state board rules for sanitization.

That was very inappropriate. I would call the office and voice my opinion. If this was for a blind person that person should have had someone bring her, people who come into our office always have someone bring them. I have had people tell me they do this for health reasons.

Guide dogs must be allowed to go anywhere the user (or trainer) goes (Yes that includes the doctor's office!)

However, someone should have said something to this woman since guide or service dogs are never carried!

I've seen people carrying dogs in stores lately. They seem to think that if they are carrying them, they aren't really dogs! Maybe they figure that dogs aren't allowed in public buildings because they might mess on the floor but if they are carrying them it shouldn't be an issue. I still don't think it's appropriate even though I have two dogs.

I agree that a pet was totally inappropriate. Only guide and service dogs should be allowed.
