What do you think of 50's Prime Time Cafe?

I LOVE the sound of this place! Based on what you guys have said so far, my kids and I will likely have a very good time, providing I have a quiet word with the server ahead of time. ...but my dh is going to HATE this - and he's not the one I was initially worried about!

He suffered through Whispering Canyon with me on our last trip...I think this might throw him over the edge. Perhaps I'll send him and the MIL elsewhere while the kids and I get our fill of airplane noises.

DH and I went here last summer. DH was not as excited as I was, but I think he was nervous about getting picked on. Our server was great and once my DH realized almost EVERYONE got picked on for something - he really enjoyed himself. After the trip he was showing his family the picture I took of him with the waitress getting his clean plate sticker!!

My dh refuses to sit anywhere near the front at comedy clubs and loathed WC - both because he is a "leave me alone and don't draw attention to me" kind of guy. However, I am the former Thespian, love to get into the act and think it's a hoot to do this kind of stuff. I love the Grand Gatherings breakfast at Tony's Town Square (I know they'll stop that in Jan - so sad!), Whispering Canyon and the Laugh Floor. He would rather eat broken glass. Perhaps I'll err on the side of caution and leave him and ds at the hotel.

We really enjoy 50's PTC. For one thing it's one of the few places that serve fried chicken and it's really good. It's also fun. Don't worry about the servers, they will catch your vibe. I think a lot of people miss out on some of the fun stuff because they are worried. It's all in good fun.

we thought is was kinda fun our group DH DD (16 12) and me-mum. However, we didn't rate the food - america diner type quality and quite stodgy.

This is my second comment on this post but i am a DISDAD and DH so i love it becasue my DW has a target on her back the minute she walks in LOL

Great food and good times. Its all in good fun but thats the kinda guy i am DW calls them food pushers when you get either the airplane or the choo choo train LOL but not for me I get a clean plate sticker and dessert

I didn't really enjoy it. i felt a bit canteeny if that makes sense. it was also really busy and felt quite claustrophobic.

We loved 50's PT. Our server was very kind to the kids, told wild whopper stories to our group of tables, and cracked corny and sometimes sarcastic jokes to the rest of us. Our server was also one of the best at pacing the meal to our tastes. He told us ahead of time that we should order dessert early so it could be ready when we were finished with our entrees, sugessted that we just order s'mores "to go" for our dessert since most people are stuffed. He also was very good about drinks--let us get shakes as our dining plan drink but also promised to bring us soda if we wanted it if we "changed our minds".

I've been to Brown Derby, H&V, and 50's PT and of the 3, this is my favorite spot. I would give it a try and just let them know you are there for the food but want to be left alone otherwise. The servers aren't dumb...they aren't going to go out of their way to do a show for someone who is leaving their tip!

Agreed! Probably the best meal we had. My kids (8) and (5) loved it too. Our "cousin" who waited on us was great...he kept telling the boys knock-knock jokes and told them he was going to eat their dessert. They were so excited every time he came back to the table for another joke. My MIL was with us and asked if something had mushrooms since she's allergic and the waiter got the chef to come out and rib her about it. It was great. We'll definitely go back.

See, I am the same way. However, my poor dh is the one with the target on his back wherever we go! He can't figure out why nobody picks on mom, the one who likes it. I think we'll have a good time.

i have never been here either but we are going for our first time in december. i let my dd (17) pick between here and sci fi and this was where she wanted to go. cant wait to have this fried chicken ive been hearing so much about.

Loved it in 2001 - so much fun.
In 2009, we didn't have nearly as much fun.

That said in 2001 we were all adults, except my youngest sister who was 11. In 2009, we had two very young kids with us (mine) and they were only 5 & 2 so that may have played into it.

My DS is on the spectrum. When we sat down, our server was talking to everyone and noticed that DS didn't answer. I just said quickly "oh, he has autism so he may not participate but the rest of us are into it" and we went on from there. You can always say something like that, although I know some folks can be sensitive about declaring a disability so do what you feel comfortable with.

After Trail's End, 50's PT is our next fave and we usually try to hit it each trip. They take reservations up to closing time so by the time you're done, the park has been empty for an hour. It's really cool to leave an empty park (you need to have a car to do that).

I hated this restaurant as a kid. Shy and had zero desire to be picked on.
I might be willing to give it a go again, but I'd be too nervous they would pick on DH now and then he'd hate his time there. Though the food and the PB shake are probably right up his alley.

Several years ago, John Ritter and his family were seated next to us at the Primetime and they throughly participated and enjoyed it. They even made airplane noises for me when I couldn't finish my green beans and the waiter was trying to feed me. Our whole section had so much fun. So sad that he died so young.

I'd been there before and told my DH he would like it. He was like what ever, but he LOVED IT and now is demanding that we go again on our next trip!!

Our Cousin that took care of us was wonderful, and the look on DD9's face when he dropped the silverware and napkins in front of her and told her to set the table for him was priceless! DD9 not only got a clean plate sticker, he showed her plate to everyone in our area and told them that this was what a clean plate was supposed to look like, and then put her plate up on the wall! He was even teasing at people on the other side of the wall--he hooked a whole bunch of straws together and was poking them through the divider at someone sitting over there, and then blamed my husband when they figured out what was going on. We had a blast and it is on our go back again list.

The food was ok, nothing special to write home about. We were never offered any of the milkshake choices, maybe because we were on the dining plan our cousin didn't offer them (since they wouldn't be included?). We did it once but I don't think we're in a hurry to do it again.

We went last year and the milk shakes were included, just like wispering canyon. I hope that doesn't change because we are looking forward to it. We were on deluxe dinning last year and on regular dinning this year. I hope that don't make a difference. I know we won't get appatizer but we just got soup and onion rings last year can go without that no problem but my son loves the peanut butter and jelly shake. Also my hubby loves it there because they have REAL SWEET TEA!

Only went there once on our last trip in 2008 and was not impressed. We won't be doing it again. Our table had a poor server, and the food was just so so. I had heard so much rave about they experience but it was a huge let down for us.
