I'm trying to figure out how much $$ I'm going to need food wise for myself and my 10 year old niece for a 6 day stay.

We will be using a towncar, so we will have a grocery stop, I was thinking of getting a few breakfast items, snacks and probably some sandwhich fixings, lunch meat, cheese and bread. And of course bottled water!

Then we are doing two character breakfasts, one at GF and the other at Cape May. Other than that though, I don't think we'll be doing alot of sit down meals. Mostly counter service and probably a lunch at Rain Forest one day and maybe a lunch at Olivia's (we are staying at OKW) -- I'm thinking $60 a day, average? Do you think this is too little? Too much?

That sounds about right. I generally budget $10 per adult for counter service and $5 per kid. Character breakfasts will probably run you about $45-50 total. You can see menus for all restaurants at WDW, sit down and cs on www.allearsnet.com I find that site really helpful for budgeting our meals!

:goofy: You may even find that you have money left over if you budget $60/day. We are a family of 4 and I budgeted $100/day on our last trip (more on days w/character dining). On our last trip I constantly had money left over (which I applied to the next day). If you have a big breakfast before you head out, and pack a couple snacks to take to the parks, you could get away with a late lunch/early dinner and then just eat a little something back at your room at the end of the day. We found the most money was spent on beverages (even though we also took some juice boxes) because it gets so warm (don't know when you're going) that you need to prevent dehydration. :wizard:

What are your dates? If you are thinking of spending $60 per day and going after April 1, I would add the dining plan--for $37.99 adult and $10.99 per child you'll be saving money and eating better-- of course the child is 10 so will be considered an adult. Still, though you'll have more flexibility and the food on the fast food kids menu isn't exactly yummy to most kids lately. For $16.00 per day more you could have a CS, TS and snack each. This way you'd just need a few breakfast fixings and beverages at the grocery stop and you'd be all set.

I thought of the dining plan and if my niece wasn't 10 (and considered an adult  ) I probably would have gotten it, but since she would have to pay the adult price and she barely eats, I can't see getting the dining plan.

Off the plan, I figure we can split some counter service meals...ya know, get a double burger, ask for another bun, ect....I personally don't like big heavy meals especially at WDW. Usually I eat two real meals there. I like to have a good late breakfast (our breakfast ADR's are for 10-10:30am) then something light in the afternoon and then a nice, but not huge
meal around 4-5pm.

I wish more sit down places would offer their lunch menu at dinner. I was looking at I think Kona Cafe and their lunch menu looks very good and I'd be just as happy with that for dinner as their dinner menu.

Anyone know what the general cut off time is for ordering from the lunch menus?

Dining plan is a great idea, but you are then locked in to eating it or losing it. It may save you money though. I would budget $60 a day too, and with your lunch in the room at nap time, I think you won't hit the $60. It is always best for me to over estimate a bit so I don't have to worry about grabbing popcorn, bottles of water and pop and stuff while at the park. The extras add up fast.
