What do you think about this grocery shopping plan?

We will arrive at SSR the Saturday after Thanksgiving. We are staying a week in a 2 bdrm with my brother, sister in law ,niece and nephew. Last year we did wegoshop.com and it worked out well. We will not have a car and will probably do ME instead of a towncar. We are thinking about going to the grocery store by taxi. Not to Gooding's but to the new Publix's near the Crossroads. Do you think it will be feasible? Any idea of taxi cost? I really like the idea of picking our own groceries and my niece has diabetes which makes it important to eat some meals at our resort. Thanks!

I would suggest this - consider renting a car for the day from Alamo - you can pick it up and return it at the Dolphin. Or, if you want to avoid the delay of ME, pick it up at the airport and drop it off at the Dolphin (that's what we arer doing). It will probably only be slightly more than a taxi and will get you to the resort faster.

IMHO, it would be less expensive to have some things shipped ahead and then to purchase milk and other items that need to be refrigerated in the resort store. A taxi round trip will probably cost at least $25.

If it were me, I'd use wegoshop and just be specific about brands, assuming that is important. I'm also a diabetic and it would be important to me. If you haven't already, you shuld consult with your neice or her parents to see what eating plan she needs - perhaps it would be easier to bring some things with you on the plane.

Best wishes -

We stayed at SSR and arrived the Saturday after Thanksgiving of this year. We shipped our stuff from home. I used the Priority Mail Flat rate box which cost $7..70 regardless of Weight!!! I mailed it out on Tuesday and it was waiting for us when we arrived on Saturday. I took into account that Thursday was Thanksgiving and thus no mail delivery. We bought perishables at the Artist Palette.

Can you tell me what all you were able to fit in your $7.70 priority mail box? Just wanting to get a space visual because I haven't used that large of a Priority Mail box before.

Thanks!

This Oct we did that we rented a car from MCO to the Dolphin and went to the Super Wal Mart right near downtown Disney. It was well worth it. Yoiu can usually get a car for around $40.00 one day with Alamo. Alamo has been the cheepest I can find.

From BWV, take a right out of the resort, left at Buena Vista, continue past CBR and Bonnet Creek and take the exit to 536 (Epcot Center Blvd). Get into the left lane on 536 until you pass the I-4 exits. When you get to 535 turn right for the new Walmart, it's about a mile down the road.

I shipped two boxes. I packed 2 cans of peas, one onion, a bunch of garlic (in ziploc baggies), I packed those Easy Mac packages. I took cereal out of the box and packed that. Oatmeal.(individual microwaveable ones) A jar of peanut butter (plastic jar), jelly, cereal bars , a small can of Del Monte sauce. A ziploc baggie filled with elbow macaroni. A tiny tupperware container with olive oil wrapped in plastic and then put in a ziploc bag. With the peas and elbows I made a little soup for the kids one night.

Don't forget to put your name on the box. The name of the resort you are staying at the full address. Your reservation number and the day you will be arriving.

You might also consider gardengrocer.com. We are using them for our upcoming January trip. The website was easy to use and showed products by brand and size. It also included all nutritional information. They are very responsive to emails and willing to look for products not on the site. If you prepay they will leave the groceries with bell services who will store them and refrigerate as necessary. The prices are competitive with the grocery stores and they only have a $50 minimum.

We used gardengrocer in December and they were great. I needed an item that was different from the one they listed, I e-mailed them at like 10 p.m. and they responded within about 10 mins even though they were 'closed'. They were super helpful and friendly and we will deffinatly be using them again.

Paticake, how did your grocery supply go? We are going in January, and I'm trying to find the best way to supply us, too.
