I have been to Teppan Edo before so know how it works/cooking at table, etc.
I am going with family (DD, DSinL, and 3 little DGS's...5, 3 and 18 mos).
My DD really wants to try Teppan Edo so I made ressies but now am worrying about it. I think the 2 older boy (5 and 3) will kep their hands off the cooking surface (sure hope so anyway :scared1: ), but how do you think a high chair would fit in at the table? I'm assuming they have highchairs as every time I made an ADR they always asked me the ages of the kids.

Anyway, have you ever been to Teppan edo with a high chair kid? How about young children...like 5 and 3 years old?

How did it work out?

Thanks,
Karen :)

When we were there Jan 2009 the family that sat with us had a toddler. They had a highchair ready for her. But the also moved that out of the way as they brought their stoller in after for her to sleep in, She reclined and slept through the whole dinner and they took her food to go!

They also situated her at the corner as did they my dd (- possibly the farthest distance from the hot surface.

I don´t know exactly about high chairs, but they must have.

He have gone with our children at ages like 3 to 6 (now they are older).

I think there is nothing to worry about, just be sure to place an adult near (just in case) and it would be better if you let them experience this style of restaurants before. Just ask for a Japanesse restaurant with Teppanyaki (cooking at the table) service near you, and try on.

We made it several times with our children, now the youngest is 5 YO.

It was totally fine. We went in January w/ our DD2. They put the highchair btw us (there was a total of 9 at the table - ours was a party of 3). It was a little squished btw us, but it was fabulous. I don't think there was anyway she could reach the grill sitting in a highchair. (I was a little worried about her pushing her sippy or somthing like that on the grill, but all was good). I am hoping to go back in August w/ just DD2 and I, and I may eat there twice. It is SO GOOD!!

We went in Sept and I was very upset over the seating arrangements. The table sits 8 but they squashed us in with 2 other couples (total of 9). My baby's highchair was placed on the corner and she could not reach her food because of the arrangement. We managed but next time IF we go I will ask for a better seating arrangement.

I don't think little ones can't reach the hot surface unless they stand up and dive for it.

I agree, shouldn't be a problem. I took my nephew and he had a great time . . . except for the onion volcano . That set the tears off immediately.

we did it last year for dinner with 6 and 3 and they were fine, the kids food is ok, but it isn't average, tempura chicken fingers with a crispy almost chip like batter. There were some other choices. We sat with a great family from Minnesota and that was really helpful. My food was great, my wife's steak was a little undercooked but she was too shy to say anything and she had plenty of shrimp anyway. The added entertainment makes this easier to do with kids. If you got stuck with some nasty yahoo's it wouldn't be fun though.

My DD has been to our local Teppanyaki restuarants since she was a baby and there's never been a problem. She loves seeing the "show" right in front of her and loves the food (minus the never-eating vegetables). Since the counter that you eat on is a barrier between everyone and the grill surface you really have to reach over to touch it. A child would have to climb out of the highchair/booster seat and onto the counter to reach the hot surface. I wouldn't worry.

We ate at a local Japanese steakhouse with my son when he was about 18 months old. Everything was going great until he chucked a lemon into the fried rice. That was a little embarassing. I don't think we will do that gain until he's a little bit older.

Thanks everyone
I do feel better now.

I am goiing to e mail this thread to my DD, although she didn't even know I was worrying about it. :goodvibes

We are planning to eat at Teppan Edo then watch Illuminations.
Last time I was there, in August, I watched Illum from the deck at Teppan Edo, really nice :goodvibes

Thanks again to all,

Karen :)
