What do you think about talking on your cell phone during a ride?

Whoever tries to say that flash photography on rides is NOT rude is just arguing for the sake of arguing. We all know it is rude. It is against the rules, like someone said, for a reason.

I also think it is rude to talk on your cell phone during the ride. I don't understand why anyone would want to do that in the first place?

:thumbsup2 I totally agree. Flash photography is a huge distraction whether they're in front, behind, beside or hovering above.

I can tell you one reason they'd be on the phone, though. I had a friend go to WDW and I laughingly told her to call me from It's a Small World. She called me from a couple of rides and I got to live vicariously through her.

Other than that, not sure why you'd feel the need to talk on the phone on any ride in any park.

Thats the one with the old guy talking, and going through the years, right? Oh lordy - I went on that with my father thinking it was a DIFFERENT ride. That was the worst 20 minutes of my Disney!! LOL I'll have to remember to NOT get on that one this time!! LOL

That's the ride. :)

Nope, I'm not arguing for the sake of arguring. I don't find it annoying, as long as its not pointed right at my face. I understand that its against the "rules" but I also understand that people want a memory. Sorry if you don't agree with my opinion, but I am allowed to have one.

While I do feel badly for anyone who can't remember a ride without taking pictures of it, they still don't have the right to disrupt the ride for their fellow passengers. Fortunately for people like that, Disney does sell books and postcards with pictures of the rides. Maybe those are good options to help refresh their memories.

I called my sister from IASM and got her voicemail. I left the phone on to record the ride song for a few minutes then hung up. That was the only time I used my phone on a ride. She later told me when she got that message the song was stuck in her head!!!! I rarely carry my cell phone at WDW. We check the phone and then return it to the safe.

EVERYONE wants a memory. If I can't see a ride because of the constant flash, then, yes, I'm annoyed. You can have a memory without a photograph to go along with it.

I just loved the guy who sat in the row in front of me on PotC turned facing me to document his daughter's every reaction--meaning that the flash was going off in my face. But doing it any time is rude and inconsiderate of your fellow passengers.

Back to the original question--I do think it's odd to talk on your cell phone during a ride. I did confuse someone when my phone rang just as we were getting on Mission to Mars. I thought it was dd checking in and I answered and said, "Hi! We're on our way to Mars. Can I call you right back?"

It was my dentist's office confirming an appointment. :lmao:

I think it's rude to talk on your cell on a ride. It's rude to the person on the other end (often times rides are loud and make it hard to hear). It's rude to the people you're with and in a lot of cases, depending on the ride, it's rude to other people on the ride.

I laughed when I saw this thread, though, because it reminded me of one of my band trips to WDW. We were in the MK and some of my friends wanted to go ride Space Mountain. We got fast passes and walked around waiting for our time. A friend of mine and I decided not to ride so everybody else went on. We walked around and it seemed like it had been a long time being that they had fast passes, so I called one of my friends that went on. She answered and said they were just getting off now. When we met up with them again. My friend was telling me I called just before they pulled into where they let you off. The ride attendant didn't see her answer, they just saw her on the phone. They gave her this weird look because they thought she had been on the phone the entire time.

LOL - I always call my sister from the Haunted Mansion stretch room so she can hear the spiel. It's my way of rubbing in that I'm at Disney, and she's not.

What if 20 people around you were taking flash pictures throughout the whole ride? This is why flash pictures are prohibited. If everyone did it, no one would be able to enjoy the ride.

The rule can't say that only 1 person may take a flash picture at a time. Logistically, how would that work?

With flash pictures, it has to be everyone or no one.

I suppose if 20 people were flashing their camera, it would annoy me (never seen THAT happen), but I'm able to make it thru the occasional flash without being bothered or feeling like it's unfair to everyone else.

FYI - Using flash on a dark ride makes for bad photos. Flash only works for about 4 to 6 feet - so it lights up the space in front of you, but not what you are trying to capture a memory of. Try using a no-flash setting and letting the available light work for you.

In short - don't use flash on the rides!!!

:thumbsup2

I'm surprised to hear of all the photo snapping in PotC. One trip, my boyfriend and I were the only people in our boat, so I did it. I never have before and I never would, but we were ALONE! Yeah. As soon as I did we hear a booming voice saying "Arrrgghh, matey! NO flash photography, argghh." Totally embarassing. Never again.

Oh, and pp is correct. The flash doesn't work anyway if your trying to shoot anything other than the people sitting next to you. Terrible pics.

:lmao: I've done that before in Epcot. "Hi, I'm in Morrocco." "Excuse me?"

It is extremely rude to talk on a cell phone during a ride or attraction. it takes away from others' enjoyment.. from "immersing" themselves in the attraction. how can you "imagine" yourself being in "old Port Royale" watching the pirates, etc. while you are listening to someone else speaking to their friends back home, making ADRS, setting up a Meeting place for later, whatever.
FYI, people who have hearing aids will be even more distacted by other conversations. their hearing aids will pick up the conversation of the rude person in the seat behind them over the narration of the attraction.
put your cell on vibrate during an attraction. return the call when you are no longer on the ride.
I have no qualms about telling someone near me to discontinue their phone conversation until t he ride/attraction is over.
I have no problem, however, with the poster who lets her mom "listen in " who can't be there.. that is just ... sweet.(as long as she doesn't narrate the whole ride)
I have seen people post here before..."it was work, so I HAD to take it"..
no, you don't. if your phone vibrates while you are on an attraction, retrieve it when you get off, and then return the call. simple.

One time, I was at Six Flags with one of my friends, and her mom was going to pick us up (this was before either one of us had licenses, but they lived close by). On our way out, we saw that there was absolutely no line for Nitro, you could just walk right on, so we decided since her mom is notorious for running late, we would squeeze in one last ride. As we're on the ascent, her phone rings, and she answers it, yep, it's her mom letting us know she's running a little late. I think all she heard afterwards was our screams.

Last Fall I took a trip with a group of single-mom friends and had one that just couldn't be bothered to enjoy the trip with her two kids (4 and 7). She was constantly texting on her phone. I remember us all getting on Peter Pan and they were ahead of us. As we zig-zagged through the dark over London, I saw them. Two kids looking down at the scenery and then there was Mom: her face illuminated in the dark ride by her iphone. I found it very sad. This continued throughout the entire week. :sad2:

I have never noticed anyone on their mobiles when in any attractions at WDW. It is kind of odd but if they weren't being loud, I don't think I would care. That being said, I've personally never had a reason to carry a mobile phone with me while at WDW.

Sorry, but I think you need to learn how to block other people out a bit. So the guy was trying to figure out what he was doing next. Unless he was screaming, you need to get over it. And as far as people taking pictures - doesn't bother me in the least. They want to be able to remember their trip - makes sence to me! If others are bothered by the flash.... seems silly.
When I'm in Disney, I'm paying attention to myself, my kids, and my DH, and thats it.

ironically, i block people out ALOT, i am the only person i know that seriously doesnt mind crowds because i cant remember ever really being in one in Disney (once on HM but thats *** i was literally being pushed into people and was surrounded and i am slightly frightened of other people at times)

if it doesnt bother you when a flash goes off, thats great, but it actually does bother me (my eyes are very sensitive and its hard enough driving at night sometimes..if there is a very bright light at complete random times it can cause my eyes and head to hurt, which flashes on rides have done...i dont wanna sit for 20 minutes with my eyes shut *** someone HAD to take a picture in the middle of a ride when it is EXPRESSLY against the rules), and thats why the rules are there...i think that ignoring the rules (and others peoples comfort) to make a memory shows a lack of respect that isnt okay, and i reserve the right to voice my disdain of it.

and if i am trying to look around, be enthralled and enjoy a ride, i DO NOT want to hear about YOUR lunch plans for 10 minutes, sorry, its just rude.

i have only ever lost my temper those 2 times, and they were years apart...and it didnt ruin my day, or anything...both times i just rode again, but some people cant do that, they dont have time...they are just supposed to accept that their ride was ruined? if people were more considerate it wouldnt be an issue....
