What do you think about Rainforest Cafe?

:sad1:

I think the Rain forest Cafe can be an experience in itself. However, it can be experienced outside of Disney in many places. Personally I have been to them both in and out of the world and the one attached to Animal Kingdom can be very convenient. Yet, I would not opt to eat there one my trips because there are so many more Disneycentric restaurants to try it would be better to do those. I think the new Dinosaur restaurant is supposed to be super cool, like rainforest cafe but not available other places. I would be more apt to do that.

The food at Rainforest is always good and the atmosphere is neat. They normally have live animals (Parrots) outside of the DTD location.

Loud, expensive and our waitress at the one in AK was rude. But we didn't have kids with us, it was me my husband and my parents. Not good for older crowd, maybe for kids between 5-12. There were lots of younger kids crying when the apes went off. I find the one in DTD is a bit quieter, or maybe its because there was more people, not sure. Won't really go back.

The kids and DH love Rainforest, me not so much. I agree with others, it's over priced. I can't say I've had a bad meal there, but for what you pay and all the other choices at Disney, why go there? Also, it's not on the dining plan. If you've never been, I would recommend to try it for the atmosphere but don't expect anything great food wise.

My family and I always use to have dinner at their location in Downtown Disney Marketplace. However ever since Earl of Sandwich opened we stopped going there and the prices for their items always kept going up, so we didn't think it's worth to eat there anymore. I always use to order the Planet Earth Pasta, however it was $15.99 or $16.99 and an extra $3.00 if I wanted to add Chicken. Plus it's basically Pasta in a regular Tomato sauce and not worth it anymore.

Do the RFCs in Disney take gift cards? I can get one as a reward through my credit card, and thought that would be one fun meal for my kids that would basically be free for us!

The RFC in animal Kingdon and downtown disney both took GC's last i went, which made it great cause I had $550 worth of GC's to use... and nothing really to buy..lol.

Now as for the place, i can see the complaints bout it being loud, slow, expensive and maybe not the best place to eat. But in my opinion its a great place to go, it is expensive and can be called loud but the atmosphere is great, the food is usually on point, sometimes they do miss though. But yea, imo its just a great place to go and enjoy a meal, it's good times. I will always go back when i go to disney cause i love the place and there isn't one near where I live .. ohh well...

I've been to both Rainforest Cafe and T-Rex in my general area a few times each (yes, we have the only other T-Rex in the US AND we had it before Disney, fun fact!).

The atmosphere in and of itself is fun if you'd like to see a rainforest thunderstorm. The animatronics are pretty cool and the animals react to the "thunderstorm". At T-Rex, it's a meteor shower that happens (kinda morbid, actually! :rotfl:)

I've always enjoyed their shrimp dishes that usually come with some sort of grilled veggie side or slaw. They have an orange wasabi dipping sauce that is pretty delicious. Their coconut chicken fingers are good as well. However, I think it's overpriced for what the food is, but if you can't find a location around your house, it might be a good 1 time thing to do.

I like RFC. It is a little expensive, but not ridiculous. I always thought the food was good and portions generous. I have eaten at two in CA (a few times-with and without a kid) and the one in AK.

I preferred the food at T-Rex though.

RFC has this awesome drink. I can't remember the name...but it was a rum and punch/fruit juice drink...it basically just tasted like juice...it was very dangerous on a hot day!

It's a chain restaurant. I've never really had a good meal there. It would be one of my last choices for dining at WDW.

The one at DTD at WDW was horrid. We waited for at least a half hour only to be taken to another waiting area for at least another 20 minutes. Then when my husband was served a smoothie, it had a big hunk of plastic in it.

The one at AK wasn't much better. I ordered the pot roast and got a big hunk of gristle and fat. Almost no meat at all on it. When the server finally returned to our table and I complained both my son and husband were finished eating, so I didn't eat. They did remove it from our bill.

The one at DTD in DLR was also not much better. It was very crowded and they were very slow in getting our order to us. And then it got messed up.

Three strikes and they are out.

If you google Rainforest to get to their corporate website there are usually coupons. I think they have things like discounted kids meals and such.

Our Ratings of Rain Forest Café & T-Rex Cafés:

NOTE: The portions are pretty much commiserate with the price.
However, one is paying a premium for the atmosphere of Rain Forest
or T-Rex. The environment and animatronics are clever and amuse most
kids, as well as many adults. The Chocolate Volcano dessert at Rainforest
and Chocolate Extinction dessert at T-Rex are adventures. Due to the
price, many people expect far better food/service and are disappointed.
We think the food is average-to-above, but enjoy the theming/theatrics.

This use to be one of our Favs , would eat there 2 or 3 times while at Disney, that was until they no longer except the Dining plan.

We tried it twice and both times found it to be EXTREMELY expensive and the food was less than mediocre. We were really surprised. We wanted to love it, we just didnt.

I agree that the food hovers around mediocre at best.

I think I'm glad that my kids are old enough that they don't want to go there anymore. :lmao:

Seriously, it's mediocre chain food in a moderately interesting environment. Adjust your expectations accordingly, and it'll be all right.

I LOVE the rainforest cafe :) especially the one in Animal Kingdom. I did a whole chapter on it in my trip report... it's in my signature if you would like to take a look. I took some pictures of the food and the atmosphere so you can get a pretty good idea if you read it.

I would recommend RFC. The food is DELICIOUS and the atmosphere is very cool. It can get a little loud in there sometimes... but it's not too bad. I really enjoyed it :thumbsup2
