who just don't get it? :confused3 The last person who I exicitedly told we were going to Disney responded. "Why are you a roller coaster freak?" If you have never been there, people don't understand the magic and the adventures!! They are not "rides"!! :flower:
How do you explain Disney to adults...or should I even bother :goodvibes

I have this same predicament. My family thinks I'm a Disney Nut (OK, so I am! So what?). They are always saying, "Why don't you take your kids anywhere else?" (For the record, we DO take our kids other places - Hilton Head, for example, and we went on a paddleboat cruise on the Mississippi River last summer). But we do always end up going back to Disney. We LOVE Disney (obviously, since we are now DVC Members). But there are people who just don't get it. Poor them. :sad2:

Ya know, I just unknowingly, posted a thread remarkably similiar to this, and I feel ya... I just smile, explain the love for a park that can honestly not be explained to someone who doesn't feel it, and go on...

txmommy...can't believe you did the Mississippi (I'll never spell that word wrong). We did it over the 4th of July on the river in a speed boat (duh)...soo intense :sad2: I must have been crazy. Did you get all the flying bug things? I can't remember what they called them, but flying down the river in pitch black holding a spotlight looking for rocks is not my idea of a good time! :scared1: :scared1: The only thing I could think of was the kids are going to fly out of the boat and it is so dark in this valley we will never find them! Turned out ok though! :)

I hate the "didn't you just get back from there/go there" remarks. I'm like, NO it was in NOVEMBER.... it's almost APRIL now!

True! I think some people are mystified by the fact we return. I've gotten comments like; "again?" or "but your kids won't remember". What the heck kind of statement is that? I guess some people treat Disney as a once in a lifetime place to visit. We don't look at it that way...at all. This will be the the third time with kids DD6(3rd) & DD3(2nd) and the 4th since I married my DH, the Mickey lover ::MickeyMo that introduced me to the magic of "the happiest place on earth"

On my first trip I was about 11. I went back @ 24 years old and still remembered so much :flower: :flower: I think it is the family moments that really last a lifetime! :cheer2: Even if your kids are young, they will still remember IMHO

Funny you should bring this up... Today on our sports talk radio station here in Philly they were discussing why people go to Disney... Us Disneyites took a beating... Most people just don't get it and there argument's are weak at best... It's a kid thing... Adult's going by themselves is strange.... Anyone who spends there honeymoon there is nuts... Blah, blah, blah... I was getting aggravated... I spent my honeymoon there and loved every minute of it... I'm not a beach person, I'm allergic to sand... So far off beach resorts are out... I don't want to see the world, I like it here... It's not like Disney is our only option I've gone to other places, but I like Disney and I keep going back... I used to be a nonbeliever... I was one of those people... I went for the first time in '99 and thought I'll go once and that will be it... Why would I have to go more then once? I'll go once and be done with it... Heh:)... I can't get enough! I'd move to Orlando but my commute to work would be hell:)... When they ask why, just look at them and smile... Pity them for they do not know what they are missing...

That's the thing! You can not wrapup all of the magic, adults and children, in words. We all have a great time. You can not describe POC :flower: :flower: (one of my favorites) to someone. "It's a ride w/ animation and scenes blah blah blah".. They don't understand! :confused3 You have to experience it!!

I don't think you can explain something that you feel is "magical" to someone else in terms they can understand. You can tell them about the rides, the hotels, the restaurants, etc. Those things are tangible and they can relate to them but to try to convey your "feeling" when you are there is impossible. I love Disney. Not just the parks. I love WDW and I love the characters and the movies and the music and wearing Disney clothes. I decorate my office with Disney things. I like to read about Disney and watch TV shows about Disney. I hear Disney music and still get teary-eyed. I know that is not something I can explain to someone who just doesn't love Disney like we all do. There is no way to make them understand why I love Disney. Maybe I can't even given an adequate explanation as to why I love Disney. There is a feeling that Disney gives me that nothing else does. I guess that is why I don't try anymore to justify the expense of going to WDW to anyone or let it bother me when someone asks why I would want to "go there again." I can't make them understand "a feeling" and I don't need to because I have all of you and my best friend who understand me perfectly! I feel kinda sorry for people who can't feel the magic and enjoy Disney the way we do.

LOL You think those looks are bad? Try the ones you get when you tell people your going on your honeymoon in Walt Disney World!! LOL It's almost impossible to explain so the best thing I can do is hand them a photo album with a bunch of Disney pictures in it from our most recent trip. That seems to do the trick a bit. ;)

I was just at Disney in December and am going back in early May and you should see the looks, eye rolls and condesending smiles I get!

Do I care?....NOPE! :rolleyes1

Do I even TRY to explain?...NOPE!

I figure it's like camping...people can explain it to me all they want, but I will never get it!

People either get it or they don't and to try to explain it to someone who has never been (and has no desire to go) is usually a waste of my time and theirs. They can roll their eyes all they want and I don't give a fig because
I'm going to back Disney World!

Personally, I don't get people who go on vacation to lay on a beach all day, but hey it's ok by me, that's one less person in the line in front of me at Haunted Mansion, to each his own!

I don't talk to people about Disney who aren't interested nor do I try to explain it to them. :)

RIGHT!!! It's a "magical feeling" that you just can't explain!!! :cloud9: I gave up trying, I just say, "YUP, we're going again and we LOVE it!!!" All six of us are DISNEY FREAKS and VERY proud of it!!! :goodvibes

HA! I used to have the same problem.

I'm at the point now where most co-workers (I work with people who I only end up seeing once every couple of weeks usually due to shifting schedules) will open a conversation with, "So when's the next time you're going to Disney?"

;)

N.E.D.

I don't think you can put into words the relaxed feeling that I personally get to escape the stress from the "real world" when I'm visiting the "World". Not everyone feels it. Personally, I do and I don't care how many times I get grief about going AGAIN!

Well I don't get why people dont get it. If you say you are taking a summer vacation to the beach and you go every summer and stay in the same place that is fine, nobody thinks twice about that. If you say you are going to Disney once a year or maybe even every two years people say "Why? Didnt you just go?" What is the difference really? If I lived in Florida I would be there a few times a year, why not? Where else can you go and totally leave everything else behind you and feel like you have stepped into another world where everything is happy?

I think it is easier for an adult to love it if they loved it when they were kids. After not going for awhile, I lost interest in Disney. But then I found out about Hidden Mickeys and couldn't believe the detail in the rides. Then I learned more about disney, and I finally realized, as an adult, what sets disney apart from any other park. I think disney is a true THEME park, while other parks are just AMUSEMENT parks.

I couldn't agree more! :teeth: We have AP's this year - went in September 2004, January 2005 (also a trip to visit my parents who recently moved to FL - we took them to Disney, too! ;) ) & now we're returning in May 2005. We are celebrating our 5th wedding anniversary at WDW - our favorite place in the world. We haven't told too many people about it - they never seem to understand - especially going down for an anniversary/honeymoon type of trip. We can't wait & that's all that's really important. It used to really bother me though when I would be SO excited about a trip & wanted to talk to others about it, but they just don't get it.

I've traveled the entire country numerous times, so I've been other places. I'm also not sure why going back to Disney is worse than going back to lay on the same beach year after year.
