What do you take for your allergies and how are they this year?

My son and I take Allegra daily. I take Sudafed on top of that and Flonase. I've tried Zyrtec and Clariten, neither of those helped at all. This year has been particularly bad here, just wondering what things are like in the rest of the country.

The generic prescription of Flonase. OTC drugs could do nothing, pills nada, but the nose spray versions help a ton for me. Costs me almost $90 every three months, but being able to breath and sleep at night is worth it. Go see your doctor.

Benedryl. Nothing else has ever worked on me. This is the worst year I can remember in awhile. I am so so so miserable. New DR on thursday, i'm really really hoping he will be able to help me. I cant take it anymore!

Never had any luck for me or my DS with Claritin or Zyrtec, but we know both take Alavert (which is supposed to be the same as Claritin, i think). We use the dissolving tablets. It may be the delivery system, and I am happy to report that it works like a charm for us both. Nasalcrom for nose spray, if needed or a neti pot to keep things clear.

I see my doctor regularly. Allegra isn't OTC. I actually tried Zyrtec and Clariten before they were OTC.

Benadryl works GREAT! Knocks me right out though! :lmao: Sometimes I do take it at night.

I used to be a Claritin junkie (I started taking it before it was OTC), but I've realized in the past two years that it doesn't work for me anymore. I take a hit of Flonase in the mornings, a Zyrtec at bedtime, and treat symptoms during the day with a Vicks VapoInhaler, Neti Pot, and Advil.

My husband and I both suffer badly from allergies. This has been the worst year in a long while. I take a claritin every day and use the neti pot if needed. If I am extremely congested I will take sudafed but I try not to because it makes my heart race.

My husband has a year-round daily routine of one claritin, 2 sudafed, and flonaise. Plus benadryl at night if he needs it, which is only occasionally. Sounds like a lot but it is the medical routine his allergist gave him.

ENT put me on half of a dose of something called AllerX. I cannot take a whole dose of any antihistimine due to it drying me out to much.

I have NO congestion only pain, pressure and swelling. My whole face is swollen.:sad2:

I have terrible allergies and the real kicker is, I'm allergic to most allergy medication. I have various scripts for steroid based medications and I do the neti pot and steam machine. I also have a script for eye allergies. My doctor keeps telling me I need to move.

My allergies were pretty bad this year. Zyrtec always works for me though.

I take decongestant from behind the pharmacy counter, Singulair, Nasacort and do the neti pot daily with a drop of grapefruit seed extract. When it's really bad I do hot washcloth compresses to my sinuses and breathe in steam with apple cider vinegar.

Allergy meds dry out my nose too much too, I end up with nose bleeds. I do ok if I take a med every other day or every 3rd day-my allergies aren't horrible, just annoying. I take Claritin, generic. This past spring was the worst we have ever had. This fall isn't too bad yet but we had a lot of rain in September so that has kept stuff out of the air and the farmers haven't started plowing yet, kicking stuff up.

A very few times I had to take Benadryl - scratchy throat type thing.. Adult DD and her DH had a horrible time this year - normally aren't bothered at all..

I remember reading somewhere that allergies were really, really bad all over the country this year.. Not sure why though..

Mine have been pretty bad this year. I'm on veramyst (when it 1st was so horrible, I was on it 4x/day, but I'm down to one now) and claritin. It's still fairly icky though. I just end up with a ton of post nasal drip. Yuck! Makes it hard to breathe and swallow.

I am on Xyzal (stronger than zyrtec and a pain to get insurance to cover) twice a day
Veramyst 2x day
Atarax OR benedryl every night

sad thing is...noen of it is working this year. I take 2 benedry or 2 atarax a night and it still doesnt work.

I can't take any decongestants because I have a heart arrhythmia and all of them aggrivate it.

Add all of that to my asthma which hasnt been under control lately adn my eczema which isnt under control right now either and I'm having one heck of a time right now.

Daily, I take generic Flonase nasal spray, Singulair, loratadine, cetirizine, and cetirizine-D. Yes, I take all of these medications daily. Allergy wise, it's been a horrible year, but the pollen counts have been astronomically high. I actually had to go get a Kenalog shot a little over 3 weeks ago because I was beyond miserable and even with everything I take, it wasn't effective.

I have been taking Allegra and Flonase, but still having trouble. The doctor suggested I use a Nasal Rinse. You squirt saline water into one nostril and it comes out your other nostril or your mouth. Sounds gross, but it really isn't too bad and it gets all the gunk out of your nasal packages before it can mess with your allergies. I thought it would feel like sucking in salt water, but it doesn't sting or feel like you are drowning. They have kits at stores by the cold medicine.

I take Zyrtec and Flonase. This is one of the worst allergy years I've had. In the spring, I had an allergy-related rash for a couple of months in addition to the usual sinus issues. My dd takes the same meds I do and is having a rough year, too.

This does help alittle. My daughter has the neti pot. She is 11 and has no problem using it.
