What Do You Spend Your Disney Visa Rewards on (If Not a Trip)?

Dh and I are of the budget system of everything from a vending machine purchase to our homeowners insurance is charged to our Disney Platinum Visa and paid monthly. It works for us and the rewards have always been great to put towards our Disney Trips (this past trip, we paid about 1/3 of our trip, including four nights deluxe which was a splurge for us). That said, we aren't sure when our next Disney trip will be (the shame, I know, but it's reality as there are other things we want to do).

That said, we are still using that CC, though we constantly say we should switch to something else if we aren't planning a Disney trip anytime soon. But let's face it... we are human, busy, and it just hasn't become a priority. So in the meantime we are still accumulating rewards on this card. I know the website tells me what we can do with our points, but I just wondered what you all do with yours if you don't use them at the parks? The best advice comes from this board so I was just curious if you had any awesome ideas. I suppose we could have a shopping spree at the Disney store but my DD is almost 8 and while she does like some Disney items still, it's not really as big to her as it was a few years ago.

I would just save them for the next Disney trip if you have nothing else that you really are interested in using them for. I suppose that you could use them for airline tickets since you have the platinum version of the card, that is, if you are traveling elsewhere.

But honestly, I have the original no fee card and I rarely use it. I only keep it because of the benefits. I have one recurring bill for $11 monthly that I charge to the card just to keep it active. I use other credit cards for the rewards. The Disney Visa is not a very good rewards CC (low % back, limited use for the rewards). It was worth it for me to take the time to switch to another card.

We really need to just take the time to do this. We currently have a Southwest card that also has an annual fee, so I would like to cancel one of these cards. And I agree the rewards are not that great, but it was always easy to redeem and we enjoyed going.

I have dabbled around with the idea of just splurging for a weekend trip to Disney someday (if flights were affordable) and attending the Christmas Party. In which we could pay for the tickets with the rewards. But the idea of flying down for a weekend to attend the part seems so... quick.. when you are used to full non stop weeks at the parks :)

shop Disney.com

I can use the rewards to buy movie tickets for Disney movies at AMC Theaters.

You could probably product change the Disney card to the no annual fee version instead of cancelling. It has some perks and you would keep your card history alive longer. Then get a different card that suits your spending habits and has a good sign-on bonus.

We use ours towards our Disneyland annual pass purchase.

But we also use a Chase Sapphire Reserve card that gets us WAY better rewards/perks. We take those rewards as cash back and also apply them to our AP purchase. So far, we have $1100 combined between the two to go towards our APs next month. That's one AP. LOL.

I have a regular Disney Visa already, separate account. Wonder if I can have two. How would you approach this, just say you are going to cancel if you can't go back to a regular version?

I had the regular Visa for a few years. Saw something in an e-mail about $250 GC for the Premiere Card for first time sign up. I called Chase and asked if I was eligible for the Premiere offer was told yes so signed up and kept the card or a year. I made sure i had all the rewards earned on a rewards card, used that to purchase a Gift Card on line at shop Disney and then I cancelled the card before the Annual fee was due. I still have the regular Visa card.

This year, we will be using ours as the deposit for our next Disney Cruise, but I've also used them for Christmas shopping at the Disney store, and I think you can use them for tickets to disney movies and shows (such as Disney on Ice). Might not be correct on that last part though!

As long as you have held the card for at least a year, I would just call and ask if you could downgrade to the no fee version and see what they say. I have 2 Chase Freedom cards, but I don't know if you can have 2 of the no-fee Disney cards. If they say "no" you can mention cancelling and see if they'll offer you anything to keep it open. If neither works, then cancel. Make sure you don't leave any points stranded beforehand.

Back before we started going on Disney trips, we emptied our points out every Christmas for gifts.
