What do you ship to your resort before arriving??

So I love the idea of shipping a box of essentials to our resort ahead of time. Here's what I'm planning to send rather than pack:
diapers for the week
wipes for the week
swimmie diapers
snacks: applesauce singles, goldfish, maybe granola/nutrigrain bars, cheerios, crackers

For those that also do this, what else do you send??? Other ideas for snacks/in-room breakfast items?

THANKS!! :thumbsup2

water from staples office supply store... its only 5.58 for 24 bottles and ships free!!!!!!!!! Its so much cheaper than 3.50 a bottle in the parks and hotel!

My DD sent toiletries for the week along with a change of clothes, pajamas and clean undies for her DD. She also sent the costume her DD was to wear that evening, and a swimsuit. This worked out well because we had everything we needed upon arrival and did not need to worry about checking our liquids on the plane. Our carryon was just what I needed for the flight.

I would not have worried at all, but last January our luggage was placed on a later flight and did not arrive until late that evening. We had everything we needed for the evening and the next day if need be.

My kids use the foamy dispenser soap at home and I ship one of those down. It's easier for kids than using the bar soap that they are not used to. Anything to keep their hands cleaner!

Juice boxes and mini cereal boxes.

...another thought. did you look into using gardengrocer? you can place your order and have it delivered directly to the resort. may be cheaper than shipping your items from home?

So, how do you ship the stuff? Via UPS, regular mail, Fed Ex???

Do all resorts let you do this? Do you have to tell the resort ahead of time? (we are staying at the CR)
How much does a box like that cost to send? Is it cheaper than using one of those Grocery Delivery sites?

Thanks for any info.

Yes, I looked into garden grocer. I thought about using them, but they don't carry pampers cruisers and I'm not sure about trying out a new diaper at Disney (it would probably be fine, but what if they weren't?! yuck). I don't know, maybe I'll check wegoshop to see if they carry cruisers. Also, diapers -tend to be pricey for not that many. We'd need them for DS (1) and DD at nap and nighttime - so we'd need quite a few for the week.

Abbracio - I've read about people using FedEx, UPS & USPS. As I understand it, most people using USPS send the box 10-14 days out. You would send it to your resort, adding something like:
Contemporary Resort
Address
Hold for (your name)
Reservation #
Arriving: (date)

I like the idea of shipping a box ahead of time so I know that those items I want will be there when I arrive. I can't imagine that it would cost more than $30???

I shipped a box to ASMovies when we went----no problems at all! I believe it cost me around $10-$12 and it was pretty darn heavy. It all depends on where you live though as for the amount it will cost. You can pre-calculate (or even do the shipping label yourself) on UPS.com

One thing I WILL remember to ship next time (and can't believe I forgot when we went) was boxed cereals. And it figures my family ate those tiny boxes of Apple Jacks every stinkin day and they were $3 with milk! A friend of mine took big bags of cereal and used that as her packing material for the box (great idea!).

I packed poptarts, granola bars, pringles, soy milk (it was $4 a box there!), hand wipes, febreeze and anything that I really didn't care about losing. That's the #1 rule you have to remember when packing a box to ship---if it gets lost, you don't want to be without your important stuff like medications, etc.

Sorry, I'm a little foggy as to what we packed, as it was last year when we did this, but I'll be doing it again next year! I sent mine a week before with the name of the hotel, address, confirmation # and my return address. When we got there, we just called down to the front desk and they delivered it.

ekball: Thanks for responding on the other thread... I found my way here! :)

I'm also responding so we can keep the tips coming. My DH and I have been discussing this the past couple of days. We are going with his family and if I wait for them to decide, it won't happen! They are the kind to just go to the store and buy no matter what the price. Me, I would rather save my $$.

I would like to hear more tips and experiences about sending your own package vs. the online stores. We have 2 little ones 6 and 2.5. We will need a few diapers for nighttime, definitely wipes for everyone, snacks galore, drinks, water, candy

Would you also include your tolietry items?? Like shampoo, conditioners, etc... are they being banned from checked luggage?

With the new airport/airplane carryone restrictions we'll be mailing, shampoo, conditioner soap ,toothpaste, along with cereal and snax!

I'm having a hard time finding a place to order the water that ships free-any tips? thanks

They are not banned from checked luggage, but you cannot carry them on. This is fine if your luggage is not held up, but a problem if it is. Last year the airline put our bags on a later flight, so they did not arrive until very late. It had never occurred to me a lost bag could happen on a nonstop flight, but now I know that anything can happen.

We sent a box with all of out toiletries, along with pullups and a change of clothes and PJ's. I put the clothes in ziplock bags and rolled the air out. They just fit aroung the cosmetic bags. My DD included medications so that we would not need to cart a bunch of labled containers in our bags. We just called in advance to confirm that the resort had recieved the box, and carried with us a copy of the tracking slip with a signature. Our box was misplaced, and the slip helped. It was found within one hour, so no problem there.

I would suggest that if you can fit things that you will need in a 24 hour timeframe in your box, you will be all set if your checked bags are lost. No frantic shopping to get thru the night and following day.

My shipping list:

Diapers
wipes
swim diapers
table toppers
lysol wipes
breakfast foods (cereal/poptarts, etc..)
laundry det/dryer sheets
snacks for the kids

I think that is it. I try to make sure what I send down I don't have to bring back home (other then the diapers).

I have shipped UPS twice so far & I give it a thumbs UP, plus my dh ships it from work so it is a freebie ship for us or very much discounted since it is a work account.

Nancyg56 - Thanks for the tips! I was thinking of sending an extra set of clothes and pjs for each of us, but just added another item to my list... saline solution and contact supplies! No way I could be without these!

Does anyone know about having a cell phone in carry ons? A family member said that they were recently banned from carry ons!

Can this be shipped directly to the resort or is it better to have it shipped directly to you first so all the resort info. is included? I'm guessing bottled water is going to weight alot!

The way I read to do this is to send it to your resort, with your name and info on it. Someone PLEASE correct me if I am wrong :)

You'd fill out the shipping label (online, of course) with your name, arrival date and ressie # on the first line.

c/o the resort's name on the next line.

Then follow with the resorts address, city and zip on the following two lines.

expample:
K. Smith 10/21 res # 123456789
C/O Port Orleans Riverside
123 Street name
City, FL Zipcode

If you search the Dis for 'Staples' you will find more info :cheer2:

I have shipped packages to myself for many of our trips - I use UPS. (It's cheaper than using the USPS most of the time) In the past, I shipped the diapers, wipes, and other baby things I didn't need right away. We've outgrown the baby stage (my baby is turning five :::sniff, sniff:: ), but that isn't stopping me from shipping a box ;)

This trip I am sending:
laundry soap & fabric softener sheets
sunscreen
35mm film
antibacterial hand wipes
ponchos (hopefully we won't need them before we check in and get the package ;) )
paper towels
glow in the dark necklaces
snacks & breakfast items
plastic spoons & bowls
plastic cups
jar of salsa
Jif PB singles
AA batteries

I think that's all, LOL
