What do you say to characters?

My wife is thirty something but she loves interacting with the characters! No-one cares at WDW - everyone is a kid when they go there - my wife certainly becomes one !!!!

You just play the part - as someone has said bow to the Queen of Hearts, Boo at Capt Hook, tell Cruella you just saw some puppies outside, etc.

It is great fun and some have a little adult humour to give that the little ones will not understand - lol!!!!!

Heres to adult only nights at WDW!!!!

That bad king-lion out of Robin Hood once ade me kiss his feet... Just don't tell this any further, my borthers will haunt me with that story forever if they ever find out!

I sometimes help them out. Last summer Timon and Pumba really appreciated it. It was in EPCOT and there was a father with his two sons both around 5 years old. One kid was fine but the other didn't want to get in the picture. This guy was really monopolizing their time and it was real hot that day. He was trying to hand them the autograph pen which was hard for them. When it was my turn I helped them with their pens and books. One of them gave me a big pat on the back and the other gave me a big thumbs up. Also, I make it as fast as possible.

They must really appreciate people who are considerate of the people inside the costumes.

Also, Wendy and Peter Pan at the Magic Kingdom was very fun to talk with. Wendy asked my daughter if she picked her boogers. Real Cute.

Characters love guest enthusiasm, and when it comes from adults, it reminds them how important it is to "make the magic." I know that Eeyore loves to be cheered up since we are pretty close friends ;) The Queen (snow white's step-mother) has to be complimented as her vanity takes a lot of maintenance. Pluto loves to have his ears scratched, and Rafiki would appreciate a good mandril immatation from time to time (he is a mandril, not a baboon). Write me if you want any other tips.

I have to admit, I feel a little awkward around the face characters. But I love the characters with heads. I’m just a big kid – I forget that they are people in costumes, which I guess is the point. My very first trip to WDW was last April and I was so excited anytime I saw them!

DH and I were at MGM early one day and happened upon Mickey. I gasped, “It’s Mickey!!” just like I was 5 years old. The CM was a really nice, grandfatherly guy and he widened his eyes and said “Yeah, it’s Mickey, come on in!” I felt just like a kid. It’s one of my favorite memories.

So, when it’s character time I just revert about 20 years. The great thing about WDW is that nobody minds. :earsgirl:

i adore the characters.

when i met dopey in MK as he is my favourite i screamed 'dopey - i have come all the way from london to see you!' - he must have realised what a huge fan i was - he took my hand and we walked from under the train station to his photo spot. i asked where i could get some breakfast from and he pointed to a sweet shop!
i had a picture with him then he kissed me - he went 'MAWWW!'

that pretty much made my trip!

also rub pluto under the ears - he loves it!

Without spoiling the magic - i wonder if they all talk about excited guests!

I love interacting with the Charactors--When I'm around Cinderella--My manners come out every time--I always thank them and tell them how glad I am to meet them. I went and saw Figment a few weeks ago with my Figment t-shirt on and I got the biggest bear hug--and when I went in for my Disney Credit Card photo session at EPCOT, Mickey and Pluto made me play hide and seek with them. Chip steals my food at Liberty Tree Tavern, and I just play right along.

I agree with all above that say talk with the characters....friends of mine work there, and love the interaction, become quite bored when people just want to get photo's & auto's and go on their merry way. They go through extensive training on character habits, likes & dislikes and love to be able to use them....next time you go...interact!

I figure they appreciate it being polite and friendly, and it leaves them extra time to interact with the kids who actually think they're real.

WHAT do you mean their not REAL?

I am 21 Years old and until the Day I die they are real I'm Never Growing up. Gotta love peter pan on that one!

Mickey Picked our intereaction when he noticed the Height Difference between Me and Df at the time. it was totally funny

After my ds(10) & dd(6) got their autographs and pics w/ Brer Bear, I walked up to him. He just stood there and stared at me like I had a third eye. then he looks down and kind of scuffs his feet, then he takes my book and turns his back to me. the whole time i'm talking to him and telling how much we loved splash mtn. when he turns back to me, he motions for me to open my book. the cm's are standing there laughing and telling him to behave. when i opened my book, he had put a little purple flower (violet) next to his signature. then he patted his heart and gave me a hug!! my husband took a bunch of pics....we all got a kick out of brer bear flirting w/ me!!

Also, at Donalds B-fast I told Goofy that he was "One tall drink of water!" He made motion of laughing and being embarrassed. Then he hugged me.

As an adult, I am always just like "hey!!" and go from there. I dont have a conversation with the characters, that would be bizarre to me but hey how are ya is good. :)

I LOVE the characters! It's so much fun interacting with them. I don't care that I'm an adult- I will love the characters until the day I day. I have so much fun with them. I usually wore my hair in braids to the parks. The characters (especially Chip and Dale! :teeth: ) loved playing with them. I have so many pictures of that.

Are the characters cool with getting hugs from adults traveling solo? Most of the reports have been from adults with children, so I'm just wondering if the characters wouldn't find it weird if a 26-year-old man by himself gave them a hug

I visit by myself often, 50 yo female, and I always get hugs or flirting from the characters. So go ahead and hold out your arms for a hug. If they are ok with it, they will hug. :grouphug:

It's lots of fun to talk with them! They are there becuase they have an interest in playing a character! I think they're suppose to have some acting experience too.....

I guess it depends. With Suzy and Perla many times I just wave to them in a shy cute way. If I have a picture that I had taken with them before I will start talking like a little child and say " see this picture " I am basically a shy little child even though I am a 6 foot 3 male so I just act like a child around Suzy and Perla and those characters.

If it's Ariel I might say hi in a shy way. But also I could do this with Cinderella,Pocahontas,Suzy and Perla ect. > After the picture I find myself saying bye in a shy voice and sometimes I say thanks. With Suzy and Perla after I get my picture taken with them I might wave goodbye to both of them in a shy cute way and say bye in a shy cute way.

Plus sometimes the characters will notice my little Flower the skunk plush toy and they will play with it. Alice and Ariel have both asked to hold my plush toy for a picture. Also sometimes they notice my shirt ect. > Many times I will show them pictures or something just to see what the Characters will do. I always have fun with the characters when I get my pictures taken with them. I don't always say much with my mouth but I can still talk to them without using my mouth. After all some of those characters don't talk with their mouth and yet they still find a way to talk to me he he

Let's see......

I told Mickey that he was the only mouse I liked and that he didn't want to know what I did to the other ones. It took a minute for him/her to get it, then they put their hand over their mouth and I said "Oh i don't kill them I release them into the wild". But I don't think they believed me.

Then I told Buzz Lightyear that Woody was my fave cause I liked cowboys. Don't worry we made up and had our pics taken together.

I just have fun with them. I figure they won't mind the jokes. I also made friends with a Pluto and at one point he put my head in his mouth. It was so fun! :goodvibes

Usually I just say hi when I approach them to have my picture taken with them. I always say thank you. but try to make it quick, as there is typically a line waiting. In 2003, I went around and not only had my picture taken with characters, but also had them sign a birthday autograph book for my nephew. Alot of the characters either just signed their names, but several wrote Happy Birthday in it as well.

Had an interesting "conversation" recently with Chip and Dale regarding Christmas music. They both agreed that their favorite song is "Chestnuts roasting on an open fire".

Also had a pretty nice conversation with one of the penguins from Mary Poppins. I had a little penguin logo on my jacket, and the penguin noticed it, pointed and clapped. Also got a funny reaction when at the end of the conversation, I wished him a very pleasant 4th of July. (and then labor day, boxing day, new year, and then finally merry christmas)
