What Do You Remember As A Child From WDW?

A little off topic (but to make the "older" folks feel better), I remember "It's a Small World" from the 1964 NY World's Fair. (It's still about my favorite ride.)

I remember driving down there with my parents (actually my dad drove, I didn't, LOL), my 2 sisters and my brother. Getting there was half the fun! :teeth:

I love this thread!!! I grew up an hour from Orlando so we went a few times a year. My Grandma took my cousin and I every summer. We were there right at opening, and stayed till midnight. Grandma always wanted us to be the last people on Main St. In the heat of the day she'd take us to the Contemporary and we'd nap on the benches in the concourse. I thought only rich movie stars could spend the night there.

I remember being afraid of getting my hands or head cut off at Space Mountain.:crazy2: I loved watching the Kids of the Kingdom perform. I just knew I'd be one of them someday. Grandma and I would spend the rest of the day dancing through the park.

I loved Circus World!!!! I never could enjoy Boardwalks and Baseball because I missed Circus World so much.

I also remember swimming in the lagoon at the Poly. Those were the days.:D

Do you glow in the dark now???

LOL

In 1985--

My parents woke my sister and I up in the middle of the night and put us in the car. Later that day my we stopped at a rest area, my dad pulled out his big, new Sony Video Camera, and we all got out of the car. He announced to us that we were on our way to Disney World! My mom and I are jumping up and down with excitement. . .but my little 5-year old sister just stood there with her arms crossed and lips pouted and stared into the camera.

I remember riding in the front of the monorail.

I remember riding that dinosaur ride ---didn't ride it again until last year--Energy Adventure.

I remember the Country Bear Jamboree.

20.000 Leagues Under the Sea was the COOLEST ride---I just loved it.

I rode space Mountain with my mom---she was holding me so tight agaist her chest that I could barely see any planets, comets, and stars (;)).

I remember eating at the Biergarten--- a lot of fun.

I remember the big turtle in the Main Street Parade.

I remember riding in that big ball!

I love Figment so much that I had to get a shirt and plush toy (those plushes looked so much better than they do today).

I remember that scary ghost who appeared between my mom and me in HM. My sister and I got a black HM T-shirt.

I remember getting autographs of Chip and Dale and Daisy; my sister just stood there holding her purple pen and pink autograph book with her arms crossed and lips pouted. Chip and Dale tried to get her to smile---it was futile.

:wave2:

Boardwalks & Baseball! That's it!!!

Thanks guys, I'm not nuts after all!

Nothing :( I didn't make it to WDW until I was 19 :(

You better believe my kids get to answer this question differently ::yes::
kadaten, I understand what you mean. I didn't make it until I was 26 on my honeymoon. My parents thought the Grand Canyon was a better place to visit:confused: I didn't quite agree!

DD's 1st trip was when she was 18 months (still free!:) ) and DS's was at 6 months old! I am hoping to take my parents on their 1st trip soon. I want to show them what they have been missing!!

My first visit I was 5 and I remember was riding the tea cups. I talked about it for years! Next visit I was in the 6th grade and I remember riding space mountain over and over!!!

I remember Circus World too!!!!! In my scrap book I have a "Clown for a day" certificate from them. I also remember staying at the Dutch Inn.... I dont think it exists anymore ,and the Dumbo ride. I also have memorys of getting my picture taken with wonder woman, but I cant recall if that was at Disney or not, although I think it was. Also, riding the monorail was probably the coolest thing ever, especially when it went through CR.

I was there in April of '72. I was 12. I remember parking in Pluto parking area, with no shuttles to the main gate, and the Magic Kingdom was HUGE. The Country Bear Jamboree, the monorail and 20,000 Leagues were the best thing since sliced bread! All the while, "It's a Small World," sang in my head all the way back to Daytona Beach, where my grandparents always wintered (I can hear my grandmother complaining of all the bikers and college kids to this very day!).

Just what ARE they going to do with that pond the submarines used to be in? Anyone know? I hate seeing that boarded up area near Ariel's Grotto!

No one seems to be as old as I am (first visit in 72), but I do remember the Monsanto exhibit. A theatre in the round, where everyone stood up during the show. It had grab bars because it was just one big, round movie screen (sort of like a beginner's IMAX). Kinda neat, with pictures of whizzing fire trucks going down Nob Hill in San Francisco, where everyone held onto those grab bars like there was no tomorrow!

Does anyone remember this one? And does anyone know where this building is now? Maybe it morphed into some other thrill ride or exhibit or maybe got torn down. Hmm...

It was Circus World, and it was great. All I remember is getting my face painted like a clown and riding an elephant. But I remember we had a lot of fun!

We went there too! I still have a pin we got there of myself made up like a clown. Funny now I hate clowns.

I remember the strollers -- or at least had a flash back of them. My first trip, my neice used one of the WDW strollers. Many years later, on our 1st trip as a family, my DS3 also used the same strollers.

I'm so glad they have been replaced. :D

I grew up on the west coast, so my early memories are of Disneyland..

But my favorite memory is that we ALWAYS rode POC first, no matter what. Funny family tradition that my family now follows every trip to WDW.

I also have a great memory of the old submarine ride - corney as could be - but we loved it!

Nope, that's why I think they need to bring swimming back to the Poly beach.:teeth:

I also swam in the lagoon. My dad always booked a ground floor, lagoon view room at the Poly so I could right walk out onto the beach and swim. And I don't have three eyes or extra arms, fingers, or toes!

We went in 1974, just a couple years after DW had opened. I remember the very first thing I noticed upon walking down Main Street was that it was so CLEAN! I remember the "Wedway People Mover" (now the Tomorrowland Transit Authority) as being one of my favorite things... I remember the gift shop in Tomorrowland where I bought a shell with a blue candle in it... I remember standing in line for 2 hours at Space Mountain and STILL loving the ride! I remember "It's a Small World" (and teasing my mother for years afterward because she couldn't get the song out of her head)... I remember staying at the Poly and going down a really cool waterslide there, riding the monorail (thinking how COOL the monorail was!), and watching them build some sort of "wave pond" that may or may not still be there... I remember making my mom cry because my sister and I fought so much (rotten kids!!)... I remember checking off the rides on our map as we rode them... riding the steam train... and I remember our guide on the Jungle Cruise saying, "We're now coming up on some jungle vegetation... Hello there, vegetation!" (That ride is still one of my faves, with all the silly gags!) And of course, I remember managing your E-tickets and going through the Haunted Mansion! That first trip was awesome... Tomorrowland was my favorite... and I must say, my recent 2nd trip only surpassed it!

Christmas, 1974. My DD worked for Ford, so instead of the booklet of A-E tickets, we had Magic Kingdom Club booklets-which were ALL E tickets. (I remember thinking what a waste to ride the Carrousel, which took an A ticket, but we did it anyway.)

They were just finishing up Space Mountain-it wasn't open yet. But they were offering free test-rides on it, so of course we went-my DM, DD, and myself. My mom still remembers that she wouldn't ride alone, so I had to..(I was 16) She always says she still feels bad about that, I don't even remember sitting alone, but I do remember how awesome a dark roller coaster felt!!

I also remember "You Can Fly", by one of the airlines...

I miss 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea...:(

I remember vividly some fountain where the water flowed up ! I think it was on the walkway to tomorrow land. It fascinated me!

I also remember riding Space Mountain with my Grandma and her yelling, " Hang on, XXXXX!" (my name ;) )

I remember the Main Street Electrical Parade and Pete waving just to me from on top of his dragon.

Thanks for the brief trip down memory lane:D

I may have dreamed this, but I could have sworn that someone mentioned on one of these boards the possibility of having a
Finding Nemo" ride here. That would be great, wouldn't it??
