What do you put in "Thank You" cards?

Today is my birthday, Fiance's family sent me cards and some cash for my birthday. I always send thank you cards when they send me or DD something, but I feel like I put the same thing in it each time (lol). "Thank you for thinking of me on my birthday! I truly appreciate the gift."

What do you usually write. is it tacky to write that I will use the money to save for our vacation?

I think it is totally appropriate to mention what you will be spending the money on.

I was always taught that you should mention what you are going to do with the money 'Thank you so much for remembering me on my birthday. The money will be put to good use on our upcoming trip!' just as an example. you could also say if there was a particular souvenier you had been looking at and was going to use the money on.

My grandparents send my kids money for Christmas and their birthdays. We always let them know what the kids are saving for, or planning to buy, with the money. One year, we used the Christmas money to pay for family pictures, and sent a picture in frame with our thank you.

Yes, tell them what you are using it for! That way, they know you aren't using it on groceries or the electric bill, but rather, something FUN!

We got loads of cash for our wedding, and in each "thank you" we mentioned how their gift would go towards the down payment on "Our First House". :goodvibes

I have a "formula." First, I write a sentence something along the lines of "Thank you so much for the (insert occasion here) gift!" Then, I mention specifically what it is. "The onesies are so cute, and I can't wait to see him in them." If it's money, it's more along the lines of, "We can sure use the money as we start purchasing all those diapers we'll be needing!" Then, I close with reaffirming my appreciation. "I/We really appreciate your thoughtfulness!"

Not sure when I developed that, but it helps keep me from feeling like I'm writing a sentence, and it is easily tailored to any type of gift/occasion. I do switch the wording, etc. up so that if people in my small town were to compare (would totally happen), they wouldn't say the exact same thing, but would still follow my formula.

Man, I'm type A sometimes. I scare myself.
