What do you prefer to prevent blisters?

MOLESKIN! Kept it with me in my fanny pack. % of our party of 11 ended up using it with great results and I ended up handing it out to a few strangers nursing blisters on benches.lol

I have tried just about everything. Body Glide didn't work for me but for others I guess it did.

I use the antiperspirant and Dr. Scholls foot powder with the lightest in weight non-cotton socks. When my feet start to talk a bit - I rest. I usually am at the parks before the ropes drop and then stay till about 1:00 then go back to the resort and rest. While I rest I ice my feet or soak them in pool.

When I'm ready to go back to the parks I wear a different pair of well-worn shoes along with the above prep. Once back at night I ice or soak my feet.

Through the research I've done alot of athletes say part of the reason you get blisters is inadequate hydration so I'm testing that out by being well-hydrated.

I usually bring some athletic shoes along with some walking sandles like TEVA or KEENs and some flip flops (for around the resort). Changing into these shoes seems to help me.

I also saw a girl putting the moleskin on the inside of her shoe rather than on her afflicted foot. That might make a world of difference.

The next thing I'm going to try is taping up the sole of my foot and toes with duct tape (believe it or not runners do this and say they are blister free on their long distance runs)

I'm always trying new things cause one of these days I'll find the perfect system and go to WDW and come home blister-free!!!!!

Our personal solution is either wear properly fitted walking shoes (New Balance 4E width) with our Thorlos, or as we discovered on our last trip, Crocs with thin 100% acrylic wicking socks. While we find the crocs to be confortable for walking on, they are tight for our Fred Flintstone feet and the socks are mainly to keep the instep from feeling sweaty and rubbing raw.

Good Luck,
Joe

LOL! An old BF actually told me that I had Flintstone feet and he's right, I do!

Always got blisters until I read on here about the anti-perspirant trick. Works like a charm! My whole family uses it and no blisters!!

Thw moleskin is great too, This can be purchased at drug stores, walmart etc. The department where you buy the corn pads etc. I had never heard of it before Sept last year and read about it on this site. I bought some just in case as we were taking my DGD4 and 2 sons and MIL. I cut off a section and kept it in a bagy in my back pack along with small sissors to cut. My one DS within a few hours said his foot was hurting and he had a blister. In the past it would have been bandaide time and would still hurt. I cut a square to put over the red area and no more pain for the rest of the day. He let his foot breath at night and the next morning we covered the area again. By the 3rd day no more irritation or blister. This is great stuff. Have it in my mini mdicine kit for Feb. :sunny:

I just found moleskin (thanks to this board) but am having problems finding bodyglide. A couple of sporting goods stores looked at me like I was crazy! Any suggestions? I think the moleskin idea is just great and plan to cut some up and carry it with us in the park. Amazing what we learn on these boards. Also my poor son has battled with chafe every trip we go on and I am greatful to have learned about bodyglide, it will make life at the parks a lot happier for him.

I bought mine at a local REI store and they also have it on their online store as well. I also saw it at Eastern Mountain Sports store and at their online store.

Do a quick search for Bodyglide on the web and you should be able to find numerous places that carry it. You can also call a few sporting goods stores in your area to see if they carry it, and that way you won't waste a trip out searching for it. Tons of sporting goods stores and running stores on the Web carry it.

I found mine at Dick's Sporting Goods, and I specifically called them ahead of time to ask about it. I told the operator I needed to see if they stocked a runner's product called Bodyglide and (luckily) I was transferred to a person who knew what it was. Describing it also may help - it comes in a red and gray package that looks like a solid deodarant.

Bodyglide, Bodyglide, Bodyglide and Arrid Cream Deoderant. I had bad blisters the first two years at WDW, moleskin did nothing for me! I used Bodyglide on all the area's prone to blisters in the morning, along with some of the deoderant on the bottom of my feet and put on some good socks and I had NO blisters at all. I get my bodyglide at drugstore.com and the Arrid at Wal-Mart or K-Mart, it comes in a little box with a tin inside. I think I got this tip on this board last year. You could reaply the bodyglide mid-day if you thought you needed to, but I just put it on heavy and it went all day with me in the June heat! :yay:

My Husband swore by the Moleskin last WDW trip........he whines about his sore feet......
I'm still not clear on what Body Glide is???? A Roll On of some sort ?? Like a Anti Perspirant??? :confused3

you know whats funny is i have used moleskin on many a soldier, and myself on many road marches. after almost ten years in the army as a combat medic I'll tell you most people dont use moleskin correctly or even treat their blisters properly. first off all if you are going on a long day of walking like a road march or a full day of parking take 2 pair of socks and foot powder. i perfer dr. scholl's and gold bond. after about 2-3 hrs of parking change your socks and powder your feet. do this even if you think you feet are in good shape. you want to be "proactive" not "reactive". if you happen to get a blister break out the ole mole skin. do not! i repeat do not "pop" the blister! this will create an open wound that may be subseptible to infections. a blister is the body's way of cusioning a sore area. cut a small section of mole skin out. fold the piece in half and cut a hole out of the center. this will make a hole in the mole skin the same size of the blister. now peel and stick. mole skin is used to protect the blister not cover it. now the spot that rubbed your foot raw to cause a blister is only rubbing the moleskin. if you dont cut a hole in the center all you are doing is making a tighter fight around a sore area and placeing more presure on an already sore spot. i hope this will help some people. after almost ten years of treating blisters i have become one of the fastest blister fixers you will ever see. so in your travels you see a man treating a blister, wearing an army issued cammelback and getting finished in less then 45 sec it might be me. lol

So would you cut the moleskin so that it is exactly the same size as the blister, just enough to cover? Or slightly larger so there's no slippage?

Body Glide comes in what looks like a stick deodorant container. But it's not.

From the BodyGlide website:

Skin Formula is a unique all natural skin lubricant created to stand up to rubbing and moisture, prime causes of skin irritation. It helps stop skin trouble before it starts, and it helps aviod the need for first aid products. It is remarkably comfortable and reliably effective. Skin Formula is not another liquid, powdery substance, lotion, potion–or an empty promise.

Friction, or rubbing, is a root cause of blisters, chafing, saddle sores, rash, and other forms of skin irritation.

Skin Formula helps guard against friction - and it helps moisturize skin and protect it against dryness, cracking, and a range of specialized skin needs. It works in dry, hot, cold, humid, and even wet conditions - and it stands up to wind, fresh and salt water.

Year after year, and around, the world, the extent of the reliability of this product is demonstrated in sports. Marathon runners, cyclists, triathletes, and adventure racers depend on Skin Formula to see them through the toughest competition.

The formula combines all natural plant-derived triglycerides (waxes), with aloe and vitamin e – and it’s packaged in a convenient stick. Skin Formula is not messy and it does not evaporate - which sets it apart from all the products made with petroleum, mineral oil, lanolin, water or alcohol. It works with surface skin cells to create an invisible barrier. It feels soft, not oily, sticky or wet, it’s invisible, and it doesn’t fly away like a powder. Instead, it works and stays where you apply it.

I swear by the stuff and don't do WDW without it! :thumbsup2 We put it on the bottoms of our feet and any other areas susceptible to...well..chafing, if you know what I mean...before we go out for the day. No worries.

I would always be miserable with blisters by the 2nd or 3rd day of any trip that required lots of walking. I learned about this on another thread earlier this year. A little bit does go a long way and I didn't get any blisters on the trip. :cool1:

I put some on my feet each day before we left for the parks, and it worked all day. I went in Dec. so the weather was not hot, so you might have to reapply during the day for the summer months.

I found it at Walmart, for about $6 it is in with the other Monistat Products.

hey molly if your blister is like the size of a dime cut the moleskin the size of a quarter or bigger. then cut a hole in it the size of a dime. you know fold it in half and cut a semi-circle out. you get it?

I think i got it. :thumbsup2 If I'm understanding correctly, I assume then, that the thicker the moleskin you can find, the better, right? That way, the raised rim that it creates around the blister would reduce the chances of chafing, while allowing for aeration....? Thanks for the clarification!

The hydrocortisome creme I found was VERY reasonable at Pop Century. Like 3 bucks for a big tube of 1%.

Moleskin has been (semi) reliable for me for the last few years. I always get blisters and hot spots on my feet, no matter what I use. Usually by the end of a week there I can hardly walk.

Last year, was the only year this did not happen. For the first 3 days I was there, I got hot spots and some baby blisters. I tend to switch my shoes around to make things better, I find my old well-worn sneakers are the best (as they are tight and relaxed at the same time). But on the fourth day, I went to the Spa at GF and (amongst other treatments) I had my first pedicure & parafin treatment. My feet felt SOOOOOO good after that and never bothered me for the rest of the trip. I thought I was just getting a 'pamper myself' day, but it actually ended up helping me a great deal and making my last three days in the parks even more fun, cuz my feet were singing instead of screaming.
