if you cannot photograph what you really want? I am partial to portraits, but have no willing subjects right now. I also have a brand new camera that I'm dying to learn how to use, and a 50mm lens. I'm lacking imagination and inspiration today. What do you shoot?

If I can't shoot a portrait, then I try to find something that makes people think "I want to go to there."

Could be a landscape, a travel scene, a small object. Just something to make people "want" a little bit. Doesn't always work, but I try.

By the end of race season, I'm usually pretty tired and need a break from photography. I usually get everything repaired, cleaned and re-calibrated for the next season. By the time that is done, the batteries (mine, not the cameras) are starting to re-charge and the juices flowing again. What I try to shoot is something or a technique that I normally don't do. I have been working on portraits and lighting with limited success. Its something I need to continue to work on, but now its time to start panning practice. Opening day for my local short track is April 6th, followed by Route 66 on the 13th. On March 30th we have our charity Easter event and I will be shooting portrait-type images in Gatorade Victory Lane. Its not very creative, but its fun interacting with the fans and kids!

I have been in this situation so many times. I can't say I have a passion for taking still life type photos, but when I'm stuck for a subject and can't get out, I actually enjoy looking for things and experimenting with arrangements and camera settings. Just a though if you aren't able to get outdoors today and want to do something right now.

I've always been an opportunity photographer. I take my camera with me often so I've got it when I get the "that would make a great shot" feeling. Though lately I've been doing so much cameraless photography that I find myself having fewer and fewer of those moments when I just have to get a shot.

I am also an opportunity photographer. I am really partial to catching my kids doing something cute. ;)

I usually lean towards outdoor natural portraits of my kids and close ups of nature.

I'm in kid mode for the past few years cause we r starting our family. I have a 3 year old girl and a 7 mth boy. So all my time and learning effort goes into portraits. I also am trying to learn to be more creative with my landscape shots.

Her stuff is great isn't it! It's such a different, fun and whacky way to be creative; I think it's brilliant! :)

Colleen is a lot of fun, too! We've hung out in Vegas a couple of times and also in NYC. She has another blog about beer, too.

Here's one I grabbed with a wide angle lens to make the duck huge.

Here's a behind the scenes snapshot of her at Caesars Palace in Vegas.

I keep telling her she needs to come out to Vegas again for another meet up. Maybe one day.
