...some of your basic groceries in your area?

Like your ground meat?
Milk?
Bread?
Chicken (whole)?
Chicken breasts (boneless/skinless)?
Cereal (dry/boxed)?

I guess I'd just like to compair to what it is around here...see if we are above or below. Since trying to be more budget concious, I've been curious. (I've also called all over, and nobody ever does double coupons around here. GRR!)

Like your ground meat? Normally it's $2.99/lb, $1.99/lb on sale
Milk? $1.88 - $3.19/gallon depending on sales.
Bread? 59cents generic store brand, $2.19 Wonder bread
Chicken (whole)? 59 cents/lb on sale
Chicken breasts (boneless/skinless)? $1.99/lb on sale
Cereal (dry/boxed)? $2.48 for regular Cheerios at the discount store.

I don't buy anything unless it's on sale or I can use coupons/double coupons. I'm glad we have Save-a-lot and Marcs here which are the discount grocery stores. The chains like Giant Eagle and Tops are so expensive without coupons.

I don't even know. I do know that there are better stores for some things than others. I shop around on the weekends for the better prices. I won't buy chicken breast unless it's in bulk and at a cheaper store (costco or Meijer). I spend about $1.80 on a gallon of milk.. maybe a little more. If chicken breast is anywhere around $1.99 I consider that a decent deal.

Cereal I only buy on sale... we had Kellogg on sale this past week for something crazy, like 6 boxes for $10. We don't eat much cereal so that does't make sense. Buy one get one free I do!

Sorry I can't be much help!! I too am trying to cut corners but it's hard to keep track. I think I should start carrying a notebook, I know that's what a lot of people do! :)

The only ones I know offhand are cereal (generally) is around $4.50 a box or so, though for some reason Wal-Mart's waaay cheaper than that (their family-size Honey Bunches of Oats w/ almonds is $3.74. Yes, I obviously eat far too much of it. :) ), and if I'm not mistaken, the lowest price for which a gallon of milk can be sold around here is $2.69.

milk- gallon 2% 2.89
bread- white loaf .99
whole chicken .59 a pound
boneless breast- 1.99 pound
cereal- 1.59 box (discount store)

We have a discount- "scratch/dent" store that has non-persissable items

Price Chopper doubles coupons here- however I dont bother with coupons, as usually nothing i want to buy has a coupon

Brandy

We buy organic milk/meat/produce, so that may make my prices somewhat higher:

Milk - $5.18/gallon (good price! In MA it was nearly $8/gallon)
Chicken breasts - Around $5.50/pound, I think (organic chicken is difficult to come by around here for some reason so we don't each much of it)
Cereal - $1.79 for the generic conventional brand at Target
Bread - $1.59 for conventional loaf like Wonder Bread at Target

I am trying to do this too (Pricebook) but it's kind of a pain to get started and keep up with it, though I KNOW I'll be better off in the long run. I did one good "sit-down" and put a bunch of stuff in it, then I've slacked since. I feel like I'm doing it wrong or something...maybe not figuring the "unit" price right or whatever. I'm probably making it harder than it needs to be.

Anyone use a price book?

Like your ground meat? $3.49/lb. for lean ground beef
Milk? $3.09/gallon for store brand
Bread? $1.49/loaf for store brand whole wheat
Chicken (whole)? I only buy on sale when it's 79cents/lb. or less
Chicken breasts (boneless/skinless)? I buy the big bag of IQF breasts at Sam's
Cereal (dry/boxed)? anywhere from $2.99 to $4.49 per box, but I only buy on sale

I am in Tennessee and I shop at Publix. I am lucky that they double coupons up to 50 cents every day.

Around here there is no such thing as double coupons.

*A gallon of store brand milk is $2.99
*Boneless chicken breast is $3.89 - $4.59 a lb -- if it is on sale it is about $2.99 a lb
*a loaf of wonder bread is $1.89
*all name brand cereals are between $3.50 - $4.50 a box

I shop at Publix. They mail me some fliers for Kash and Karry and Winn Dixie that have some sale items I might stop in for if I have time, but generally I always shop at Publix. Some say the items are a little more $$, but it is a very clean store. I like a clean, organized place to shop.

I drive by two grocery stores, two drug stores, Kmart and several convenience stores on my way to and from work. BJs and Walmart are a couple miles out of the way and Target a couple miles more. I'm saying all that to say that there's a bunch of stuff on this list that I rarely pay full price for. I make my grocery lists for the week in conjunction with what's on special. The more expensive regular priced of the two grocery stores does double coupons all the time and triple for a weekend every couple months -- I just got about 20 items for free or under a quarter last week.

ground meat -- $1.18 a pound at Food Lion this week. If I pay full price, I buy extra lean b/c the price isn't that much different and it's about $2.99.
milk -- We pay a lot more than some of you in other states -- not sure why. It's in the $4 range at the grocery store. I get it BJs for $2.38, or, if that isn't convenient, at Walgreen's or the convenience store for $2.99.
chicken -- 49 or 59 cents a pound, always on sale. I've got one in the freezer right now.
chicken breasts -- Usually get them for $1.99 on sale; once in a while I might pay up to $2.99. Regular price is $4.99, I think. There are BOGOF deals on the bagged ones, but I prefer fresh ones.
cereal -- I buy on sale and with coupons and never pay over $3 a box. This means my family has to be flexible about variety. Last thing I bought was Cheerios (got two apple cinnamon and one honey nut). It was Buy 2, get one free and I had a $1 coupon. I think it worked out to about $2.20 a box.

Ground beef? $1.99 pound for max 10% fat. I refuse to buy anymore than that. Ground turkey 5% fat is usually around $2.50 a pound.
Milk? Don't buy it
Bread? 69 cents for a fresh loaf of white or wheat
Chicken (whole)? Don't buy
Chicken breasts (boneless/skinless)? $2 pound
Cereal (dry/boxed)? don't buy

Asparagus last week was $1.99 a pound, I can remember that. Celery is usually 99 cents a bunch, as are carrots. Fresh sliced mushrooms are usually $1.50 for a container. Corn on the cob is 8 for a buck. Avocados are 3 for a buck.

Of course, I only buy when things are on sale, too. Bread is always that price, but the other stuff are sale prices. I buy in bulk and freeze. Farmers Market has opened back up so I'll be buying veggies there now. We are also blessed to have an incredible store brand that is often better than namebrand, so that helps a ton!
