What do you pay for your childrens clothing?

Well, I have to say I must be a really lucky person because my 5 year old boy gets all of his stuff from his paternal grandmother and hand me downs. When he was very little and sick and had nothing left to wear he has even been dressed in girls outfits becasue there was nothing left to put him in.

I spend between $5000-$6,000 per year in my 2 DD's clothes. I take them very seriously. I am half convinced they could care less.
I buy well made clothes and treat them very well, hang up to dry etc. But the better quality pays off. We have mostly boycotted Disney clothes because of their horrible quality. A stain will get on their clothes and more than likely we're stuck w/ it.
The funny thing is I buy most clothes for DD7 and DD4 (almost 5) can wear some of the same sizes. When the youngest has outgrown the clothes still look new. I could make a lot of the cost back if I Ebay'd but don't have time or inclination. I save them for a DN.
I also buy as much on sale as I can so we get most bang for the buck.
My DM thinks their clothes are my hobby. I guarantee on most days their outfit cost more than the one I am wearing. Come to think about it :teeth: - he might be right.

Well, I spend way more on DD's clothes than I do on myself!!LOL
I only buy her clothes ay Gymboree. I go there every other week and spend about $100 each time. I do get some of DS's clothes there too, but he is only 14mo and out grows things too quickly for me to justify spending so much on an outfit for him. I am so much cheaper when it comes to my poor DS!! DD I go all out for, her outfits all have matching shoes, socks, hair accessories, sweater, you get the point. I can easily spend $80 on an outfit for her!

I buy her play clothes at TCP, or Old Navy. They don't wash well for me though. My sis loves TCP for her DD(2yo), but I haven't had too much luck with them.

I do try to buy the sale items at Gymboree! ;)

I usually spend under 20.00 for a COMPLETE outfit; this includes socks, hairbows, and shoes. I happen to be a major clearance shopper and HATE to spend big bucks on clothes the girls outgrow so fast!! I do buy a ton of stuff from ebay (either NWT or NWOT) and scour the sales racks at all the stores. I am a total clothes horse (as is Remy, Holly is still a baby, but I intend to teach her ;) ) and am a firm believer that you can never have too many clothes!

Most of DD's clothes we get at Old Navy. sometimes we go to Burlington. And once and while I'll splurge at the Gap. The clothes that I have gotten at Baby Gap have lasted a long time, and even though DD has grown considerably she can still comfortably wear some shirts and shorts she's gotten from there. I think the quality of Baby Gap clothing is really good, and for the most part it's worth what we spend there. Otherwise Old Navy clothes are low price and are fine for every day. Buying clothes for girls is so much fun! Although sometimes I get carried away w/ the dresses which she can't wear as much... I can't tell you how many dresses I have in the dresser that she's worn maybe only once or twice or not at all!

I buy the majority of my boys' clothes from either gap.com clearance or the sales racks at the GAP store. And a few things from Old Navy too. I think if I had a girl I could go really wacko, what with shoes and accessories and stuff.

I probably spend a bit too much but not $75.00. When she was younger most of her clothes came from Gymboree. I spent more initiallyon the clothing from there but they last much longer and sometimes she would even wear them for 3 yrs! I'm not kidding! I also am not opposed to buying items already purchased when they go on sale and returning the original non-sale items. I also buy things big for the next year when they go on clearance. Now she is 7 so most come from Gap or Old Navy. She likes Limited Too but they are not well made at all! I don't mind paying (like gymboree) if they are good quality. But I think they are expensive and cheaply made ! Even though she has roped me into buying some things there. I don't like Children's Place, Osh Gosh, etc...find they aren't made as well....not that I won't buy some of their trendy cute things...but only if they are really cheap and on sale!

I usually only spend 10 on top or bottom. unless its something really cute that I can't resist. I usually shop at Target Walmart Childrens Place and a place we have here called Burlington Coat Factory. I don't know if thats nationwide or not.

Add me to the list of the "spenders". I love to shop for my kids esp. my daughter. I think $75.00 is about average.

My DMIL buys my DS4 and DS6 very expensive outfits at Christmas and Birthdays-she won't buy toys... And she shops at Nordstroms, Lord and Taylor, that kind of store. The thing is, they NEVER have anywhere to wear stuff that nice. We don't go to church, and we don't go out to really nice places to eat. So they may wear the outfit one time for a picture, then they outgrow it...

However....I buy Polo, Tommy, Nautica, really cute "designer" stuff at 60-75% off, so they can wear the "look" and I get off cheaper than if I went into Old Navy... We also love Target $3.99 shorts...

My motto is "Never Pay Retail":sad2:

I just spent $50 on Sat., but that was at a yard sale. I'm very picky about the condition of the clothes I buy at yard sales, and I check very carefully for stains, rips, broken zippers etc. (Drives DH crazy.) It was easier to find good quality yard sale clothes when DD6 was younger, but I have had a hard time this last year - everything is so worn out. I had decided that I was just going to have to start saving some money back to pay for brand new clothes when school starts. I can't believe what a great deal I got for my $50. :) It took over 4 loads of laundry to wash it all, and it was all brand names like Gap, Old Navy, etc. Everything from t-shirts, sweaters, shorts, blue jeans, pajamas, a couple of darling summer dresses, and a spring jacket. The most expensive item was the jacket for $2. Sizes ranged form 7-12, so I have school clothes bought for at least the next 2 years (with the exception of items such as socks, etc.) I found a clearance winter coat marked down from $40 to $5 just a few weeks ago - couldn't believe it was actually the size I needed for next winter. DD always looks nice, and people are usually surprised when they ask her where she got her pretty new outfit & she tells them it's from a yard sale. The best part is that I can usually sell the outgrown clothes at my own yard sale for the same price I gave it for it. The worst part is storage until she grows into that size, but it's worth it to save all of that money.

Well I'm just getting started since my DD is only 7 months. But my company bought her a fortune in clothes from Gymboree when she was born. Well it was winter - flu season - and we didn't get out much. So....we returned most of it and got a store credit. Now I'm buying most of her clothes at Gymboree because of that. BUT I won't buy anything unless it's on sale. I have bought a couple of cute outfits at Wal-Mart - one has washed really well and the other got all stretched out at the neck and the body pilled up. I have been very happy with the quality of clothes from Gymboree and they have really cute stuff. I will probably continue to buy clothes from there because of that. Of course only on sale though. Oh...and the most for one outfit has probably been $30 - once or twice....the rest of the time I would definitely say $20.

I like Gymboree's quality too...except...I refuse to buy anything RED from them anymore..Every red item I have purchased from there has bled-a lot. This isn't bad if the entire item is red, but a couple of things I bought that had red trim (light colored shirts) bled into the other colors-and onto some of the other clothes I had in with it..So beware of Gymboree RED!!!

I am the queen of overstocks and clearance.

I don't think I paid more than $40 for any outfit, EVER!

I just bought my son's suit for the cruise. I got the jacket for $19 (single breasted Navy blue), and 2 pair of pants for $9 apiece, on Penney's clearance.

I also buy LOTS from Land's End clearance. Never pay more than $5 for a shirt or $10 for bottoms, maybe $12 for jeans that they'll wear a lot.

I've never spent that much on an outfit for my wee one either. I have gone up to $50 for Christmas and Easter dresses, but usually try to spend MUCH less. I keep Osh Kosh in business with their 30 - 70% off sales. :)

I *DO* have a weakness for Hanna Andersson, and their stuff can be pricey. I limit myself to one or two outfits from there a season. Usually the opposite striped dresses. :)

My weakness is Bows and shoes. Katie has an obscene amount of shoes (I LOVE the Stride Rite outlet!) and probably about 60 bows and barettes (Sadly, this is NOT an exaggeration. :) ) I paid $15 for a bow once, but MAN is it cute!

We should start a thread on where we get our kids clothes on-line!

My motto is 'It must be on sale" at a minimum of 25% off. I don't spend a lot on DD9 clothes. Max $10 for shorts and less than $10 for tops. I did buy her a couple pairs of jeans this past school year for $30/ea but she needs a slim and I have a hard time finding them at the discount stores. 2 years ago I found 3 pairs of jeans on clearance less than $5 each at Target. They were just plain jeans but I put appliques on them to 'jazz' them up. DD loved them and looked expensive.

I shop everywhere: Gymboree, Old Navy, Children's Place, Target, Gap Kids, etc. It just depends where I find stuff that I like. :)

I buy the majority of their everday clothes from Old Navy or teh Children's Place. I usually spent problem 15-25 per outfit. If it is a special occassion I will spent more, their first birthday outfits cost well over $100.00 each, but I would never spend that for everday clothes. I also will shop Gap and Gymboree on sale or at outlet stores (esp Gap).

Pam

I used to manage a high end childrens clothing boutique and that was average for an outfit. The clothing was SO beautiful. Dresses were well over $100 esp. baptism and communion ones. Coats were $250+. There are people out there that spend a ton on clothing for themselves and their children! People would come in and drop $1,000 in 1/2 an hour. Must be nice. :hyper:

I have two boys, so it's easy to keep it simple. I am sure if I had a daughter I would go a little more nutty with accessories and such. I would say the most I would spend on a single outfit would be $40 at Gap....I have not done that in a LONG time. I usually shop Old Navy, Osh Kosh outlet (usually the sale racks), Carter's outlet, local department store sales racks (with extra 20% off coupons!), Target for play clothes. Every once in awhile I will go into Gap and pick something up that is on sale. When DS#1 was little, up until about age 3-4, I shopped almost exclusively Gap (sales racks of course) but I don't think their products are as cute anymore...even for my DS#2, who is 2...stuff just isn't as darling to me as it was 4 years ago.
