What do you pay for a babysitter?

My 14 year old DD charges $5.00 per hour unless there are more than two kids. Most people with three kids automatically pay her $10.00 per hour. I told her I should be babysitting instead of her!

We use a college student from DD's daycare and we pay $20 a day if more than 5 hours, otherwise it's $4 an hour.

Our babysitter is also our next door neighbor. She is 19 and in college. We pay her $50/week, give her a cell with unlimited minutes and allow her to use our van. Most of the time she isn't actually "babysitting" per sae, just taking the older ones to their activities and bringing them home. If DH gets called in while I'm at work, she'll come over and stay with the kids.

Wow, then I would imagine the income in your area is much higher than ours. Around here if you had to pay $250/week for day care, you might as well not even work.

$10/hour. I'd pay her whatever she asked though, she is the sweetest girl and is so good with my kids. I didn't think they even made girls like her anymore, but now that I've found her, I'm not letting her go until she goes to college, and then it will be reluctantly.

That is pretty much the going-rate around here for up to 3 kids. We used her and her girfriend once when we had a party here -- the adults were in the upstairs and her and her girlfriend watched the kids downstairs. There were 9 kids in total and we paid them $100 to split, that was for about 4 hours.

Thats how it is around here too. I don't know of anyplace that charges that much. I pay a little over $100 a week for day-camp type child care for DD. During the school year I pay about $50 a week for after-school care.

I think most on-going daycare works out to about $3.00 an hour for a day-care center type experence.

For what you are looking at, DS's girlfriend was offered $150 a week for 3 kids during summer break. She did it last summer, but she is going to school this summer so she didn't take the job.

At $10 an hour you would be looking at $500 a week for a 50 hour work week. I know if teens were getting that kind of money to babysit during the summer they would be lined up around the block to take that job! Thats more than most working moms around here even bring home a week once you take out taxes, insurance, and expenses.

$10 could be the going rate for part-time care, but not full-time teenage child care.

At least in small town Indiana!!!

I'm paying $42/day for my daughter's summer program at her elementary school and I think it's highway robbery! Thank God I only needed care for 3/days a week for three weeks this summer, $126 each week plus reg/tshirt for off-site visits, came to over $400.

Babysitting on Cape Cod: Alot of the babysitters around here want $8-10 but I just won't pay that. I offer $5/hour during the day and $4/hour at night when DD8 is sleeping and all they're doing is watching tv anyways
I have a couple of sitters that will spend the night and I pay them $20 for usually 8-12 or so and then bring them wherever they want first thing in the am.

My nieces are making a small fortune babysitting. MY DN, 14, babysits for one family that has a 3 and 4 year old and they pay her at least $50 every time they go out (for like 3 hours or so) and on New Years last year gave her $150 to spend the night even though they were home at 1 a.m. Go figure.

For $400/week, I'd be happy to commute and take care of your little girl Kidding aside, in my area (which I thought was expensive) you could hire a live-in or out nanny that would do light housekeeping and cooking as well, not to mention the one-on-one care and transportation to recreational opportunities in the area.

I had actually considered a nanny myself about five years ago when the kids were 10 and 3 but realized that if I had hard time keeping both busy/happy at the same time (because of their age difference) I didn't think this would be the best idea.

My kids camp was $300 a week, times that by two kids, times 4 weeks, and we were looking at a figure higher than our mortgage payment. They do all sorts of fun things though and my kids love it, so we always set aside money at tax refund time to pay for it.

Thats how I pay for it too! But I also put away money in my flexible spending plan and I get 1600 taken out prior to taxes...I then file for it in October for the time she was at camp and I have sort of a tax free Christmas club that way! My daughter loves it at camp, they have deck hockey, a mini golf course, indoor full court basketball gym, video room, dance stage, art rooms., computer rooms, 3 pools and a water slide,baseball fields, soccer fields and they have all sorts of other things like tye dye, plastercraft, lanyards and other crafty things. They also have special days once a week, last week it was carnival day...they brought in all kinds of carnival games, moon bouncers, slides, a dunk tank and carnival food....next week is western day, they have pony rides, a stage coach to take them on hay rides and its a whole western theme day....She loves it there, she wanted ot go all summer long but I couldn't swing an extra 1600 for it right now....If I had known prior to the summer then I would have cut out one of our vacations this year and sent her for 2 more weeks. I have 2 weeks off work in the summer and I don't want her goign to camp when I am off, thats when we do water parks, amusement parks and things.
