Remembering the Magic

We always look forward to what's new with every trip we take to WDW. It is, however, a little sad to see that something we loved is gone.

For instance, although we LOVE the Winnie the Pooh ride, we do miss Mr. Toad.:(

Goofy's is my personal favorite roller coaster, fast and over way before I feel the urge to revisit my last meal. But, boy do I miss Minnie Moo. :( (The last I heard she was over at FWC.)

And who doesn't miss the skyway ride over Fantasyland and Tomorrowland? :( :(

It is fun to reminiscence of course. What do you wish you could go back and do just one more time?

I look forward to reading your responses;)

I miss Horizons....even though I am incredibly excited about riding Mission Space in January.

Horizons was such a nice ride to sit back, get comfortable, and enjoy. I really like those longer rides that really take you to another place.

When I saw the title of this thread I immediately thought of Mr. Toad. At least it is still open at DL. DL killed off the Country Bears to make way for their version of Pooh. That little bear is one tough guy! ;)

Things that are gone from both MK and DL that I miss are the subs and the skyway.

I really miss 20K Leagues... :(

I really wish they would take out the lagoon or do SOMETHING with it, so I can get over this. ;)

Anyone else remember fondly what was probably a cheesy attraction (sponsored, I seem to remember, by some airline), but to me was massively cool as a kid, if only for that final room where you were flying as wind blew in your face? I think it was in Tomorrowland, maybe over where Buzz Lightyear is.

And the skyway... I only rode it once, maybe twice, but boy, do I miss it. I loved being able to look out across the Magic Kingdom (probably more than once doing some kind of royal wave, as if everyone below were my "people."

Something I think I only rode once were the Swan boats, way back in the 70's, close to the castle. I remember it was such a peaceful ride, and it gave you a different view of the park.
I remember the ride sponsored by an airline. I miss everything mentioned, mostly the skyway and subs. I don't think I disliked any of the original rides that are now gone.

Ah yes, that last tunnel room with the clouds on the walls and the breeze. It had those blue Omni-mover seats.

I think it started off as "If You Had Wings" and was sponsored by one of the 37 "official airlines of WDW" - maybe Delta?

Then it was "Dream Flight"; "da da da daa da Dream Flight / da da da Flight of your Life."

Good times, good times.

I too miss "If You Had Wings" sponsored by Eastern Airlines and later became "Delta Dreamflight" sponsored by Delta Airlines. I definately prefer the If You Had Wings version. It had such a catchy tune and I loved watching the people dancing in the waterfalls.
20K Leagues Under the Sea especially is missed because of the lagoon still being there plus the fact that I just watched the recently released DVD.
Horizons is my favorite missing attraction though.

I think it started out being sponsored by Eastern, then Delta took over, but I may be wrong.

DrTomorrow, I love your avatar! It's been a long time since I've seen J.R. "Bob" Dobbs!

Although it was closed before I could ever ride it, I wish they would replace 20K--same with the subs at DL. And I miss the SkyWay too...at least MK still has TTA- DL needs to get their People Mover back...in fact, Tomorrowland at DL needs a LOT of help! With Space Mountain being rebuilt over the next 2 years, it's a ghost town over there! But I digress.....

Wouldn't it be great if they could take all the old rides and open a new park with them? I imagine it would be pretty cool.

Don't forget to include any old restaurants, foods or character meals you miss. The one I miss the most is Alladins character breakfast. It was @ MGM in the building where they do Playhouse Disney now. My DS loved going up the stairs to rub the lamp when we were finished eating. They had these yummy rolled-up crepe things that my DH loved - they were called Princess Jasmine's something-or-other. Haven't had one since they closed it down.:(

"If you had wings, had wings, had wings...." OMG... that was my FAVORITE RIDE as a kid! No one was ever on it so they used to let me stay on! I felt like I was the only person on earth who remembered that ride! And YES! It was EASTERN airlines!

Also...

The Listen to the Land song! "Just make believe... you're a tiny little seed. A tiny little seed that's reaching up to meet your needs......Listen to the land, listen to the land!"

Horizons was my FAVORITE attraction at EPCOT! Remember the smell of the oranges!?!? That ride was the coolest!

I miss Dream Finder and the full version of the imagination song!

I really miss Mr. Toad and that 3D movie with the witch in it, remember that one? Magic Journeys or something? And the Penny Arcade on Main Street!

I miss temporary things too, like the birthday songs "15 years... we're havin' a party at Walt Disney World...." and "It's time to remember the magic!" I don't, however, miss the castle dressed up as a cake. We were there for my honeymoon that year and it didn't make for very romantic pictures!

ANYWAY... I've rambled on enough.

:jester:

I too miss "If You Had Wings", especially since it was sponsored by Eastern Airlines on which we flew to MCO on our very first on-site visit. But I do love Buzz too.

BTW- Minnie Moo has passed on to that great farm in the sky. :(
Her picture remains in the Yachtsman Steakhouse.

I miss Horizons, World of Motion, Captain Eo and Future Corps at Epcot.

I miss the Catwalk Bar at MGM which overlooked the Soundstage Restaurant (where Aladdin, Genie, etc held court for breakfast and lunch at MGM). Since Bear in the Big House/ Playhouse Disney took over that spot, there is no place for adults to go and relax, away from those waiting for tables.

I also miss Mr Toad's Wild Ride, which was definitely one of my favorites, and although I think Pooh is very cute, it just isn't the same.

I miss the original Journey To Your Imagination ride. Although I am extremely glad that Figment is back, I wish that they had brought back the entire original attraction.

I miss If You Had Wings, it was my favorite on my 1st trip back in 1973!

I miss the Adventureland Veranda in MK. The food was good, and if you got there early enough, it had a good view of the MK fireworks!

I will definitely miss the Osbourne Family Specticle of Lights this year. Can't wait for it to be back in 2004!

I miss the shows with the Kids of the Kingdom!

Please, tell me you're joking! They can't put Minnie Moo's picture up in a steakhouse! That would not pay tribute to her very well. I'm really hoping this a joke.

Soundstage Restaurant at MGM (loved the theming and characters), Bonfamille's at Port Orleans (especially their breakfast), Disney Character Hit Parade (I miss seeing Cinderella in her coach, now the only time you see anyone in it is just for weddings), and the old Pocahontas show at MGM.

I know what you mean - they were better shows than the Cinderalla one.

Another vote for Horizons & If You Had Wings!! If I'm remembering correctly, IYHW was a no ticket ride so we would always ride it many times.
