Drive-in movies (although I think there's still a few stragglers somewhere)

A&W Hamburger joints (none around here that I know of)

White Tower hamburger joint

The huge Sears, Penney's, & Montgomery Wards Christmas catalogs

Tru-Ade non-carbonated orange "soda"

Original Candyland game

Big Chief (?) writing tablets

Milkman (although I know some places still have them)

The horse-drawn Friehoffer Baked Good wagons

---------------------

I'm sure there's more that some of you will remind me of..:goodvibes

My last drive in is now a super walmart. After the mall put in it's theater, the drive in dwindled down. The lot stood empty forever then walmart went there. I don't even go to that one, it wierds me out.

WHen I was little, we had Woolworths and it had a soda fountain place in it. That was the coolest thing.

Or RC in a bottle, a real bottle.

Mostly I miss what we don't have ,or people don't seem to use is: COMMON SENSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We still have A&W out in California. However, the menu is not how I remember it being when I was a kid.

Speaking of woolworths I used to love when my grandfather used to take me to eat there.

My aunt that used to live next-door to me when I was a child (back in the 1950's) would always take me to Woolworth's with her - set me up at the counter with a banana split - and go off to do her shopping.. Can you imagine?? No one ever approached me, no one tried to kidnap me, and the waitresses would chat up a storm with me in between other customers..:thumbsup2

Common sense - good one!!! I'm often amazed at how complicated some people can make the simplest thing! Sometimes it's downright scary! :scared:

Is the hamburger still in the foil bag? For some reason that just made it taste better.. LOL..

We have A & Ws all over the place up here. And yes, they do still come in the foil bags. :goodvibes

The stand alone A & W's are gone. We have KFC/A&W combo restaurants. Yes the burgers, Pappa, Mamma, etc, still come in foil.

As a matter fact, as I recall a lot of the A & W's around here used to close for the winter.

Two things:

Charles Chips; they would deliver them to your door and you got to keep the big cannister they came in.

The dinner bell; we would leave on our bikes for the afternoon and hear my mom's dinner bell in the neighborhood. All five kids came back without a scratch and a funny story!

That's so funny because when we went to Lake George this summer, we went to a drive0in movie AND went to A and W for dinner:thumbsup2

I miss these Regal crown candies that my brother used to buy for me. Sour Cherry, oh they were sooooo good!

I miss drive-ins too. There is one that I know of not too far from here. But I miss the ones that were local.

I remember Wiener Schnitzel. They had the best hot dogs with all kinds of toppings! I have no idea if it was only here in the StL area but the only one I knew of is long gone.

Also the Pop In Store. An idea way before its time I think. You could drive through to the window and get simple grocery items like milk and bread. It went out of business years ago but I think it would do very well now! People just didn't get the time saver of staying in your car to shop back in the "old days"!

Get out!!!! They still have the A&W in Lake George? AND a drive-in?? Do you have any idea how close I am to Lake George??????? :headache:

I thought sure the A&W was gone (thought I asked someone).. I haven't been back over to the village since a few years before my DH passed away in 2005..

It's probably closed for the season now though - huh? Well - I know where I'm going for a burger NEXT year!!!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Oh, I loved woolworths. You could get everything there and they made the best malts!

I miss Tippins (loved their soup)...and lady at the bank that saved the orange safety suckers for me (and would patiently count up my rolled coins and tell me that I must have saved pennies a ling time to get $67 worth....instead of complaining about them). I also miss HR Salt fish and chips. And pepsi in the returnable bottles!

We had never had A and W until we went summer of '09 and the kids talked about it all winter so we had to go this summer also. It's right on Route 9, I wonder if it closes for the winter:confused3 The drive-in is in Glens Falls. I was dying to take the kids to one b/c I remembered going as a child. It was cool. I felt like I was in the movie Grease, lol!

Farrels Ice Cream Parlors - I think there are 1 or 2 in S. California but I haven't seen a Farrells in 20+ years

School lunches where the ladies in the cafeteria actually cooked and served us on compartmentalized plastic trays

Teeter-Totters at park playgrounds - there are a couple of parks in Portland, OR. that have them and DD still loves to go for a ride whenever we are up there visiting.

Riding in the back of pick-up trucks :scared1:

Baked goods and caramel apples in our halloween trick or treating haul

Cartoons before the movie started

Sunday night TV - The Wonderful World of Disney and Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom. We looked forward to it all week.

Saturday morning cartoons
