Hi to all you great Dis'ers. I am a bit nervous writing my first trip report and in this case my first pre trip report and I may not get all the lingo right but I thought, what the heck I'd give it a try.

Cast:
MK (me), 44, single mother of 4 sons (20, 17,15, 8) been to WDW only twice
DS, 20, has been to Disney 6 times
DS, 17, has been to Disney 4 times
DS,15, been to WDW 2 twice and is thrilled that his two older brothers are not going (College schedules doesn't match with ours) and he can finally start catching up with the amount times that they have gone to WDW.
DS,8, has been to Disney once and can't wait to go but would rather be going on a historical tour of the USA (I'm not sure where I went wrong with this child but it's obvious that he has had too much schooling and this must STOP!)
DSis, 41, newly single mother of 2 daughters, has been to WDW more than 10 times.
DN, 14, (oldest daughter of my sister above) she is shy and is not a risk taker AT ALL. SHe has been to WDW 5 or 6 times I believe.
DN, 6 (youngest daughter of my sister above) and she is the dare devil, take no prisoners kind of girl. She was so small when she went to Disney the last time that she doesn't remember most of what we did except for what she watches on DVD (brother created to music with video and snapshots and is unbelievable) almost every week.

A little background:
I am a single Mom (for 7 years) with 4 sons, 2 are in college (Adam, 20 and soon to be 21, local at Niagara University and the other, Mitch, 17 but 18 in a month, I just drove to Rhode Island to his new home for the next 4 years at Johnson & Wales University) and still have 2 more at home, Jordan, 15 and Ryan 8.

My first trip to Disney was with my 3 sons (Ryan was just a twinkle in my eye then) and at the time husband and we were joined by my older sister, Sue and her husband Fran (the ones who own DVC) and my parents who had just sold thier retirement home near Disney. My older two boys had already gone to Disney before me (funny how parents spoil thier grandchilden and I whined for years how my off spring went before me.)
The second time was a few years after my divorce and a much needed break from real life. My whole family had weekly dinners at my parents house then and once I started planning the trip with Sue the rest of the family decided to join in. My brother has 3 sons and they are all the same ages as my oldest three boys so they paired up and I have to say that this was the best vacation of my entire 44 years. There wasn't one fight the whole 8 days we were there and everyone was laid back and was up for anything that anyone wanted to do. It was tough planning in parts because the age differences in the 9 kids went from 2 years old to 15 years old but the boys were so excited to watch the youngest two see everything for the first time.

Background...

In Fall of 2006 my DSis, DBro and DSis #2 (older by 2 years and is a DVC owner) decided to go to Disney together again since the last time went so well. My family has many family dinners together and we started planning the dates, moderate on site (off site is non-disney to us) hotels and DDP vs not DDP. None of us has ever used the DDP before and we thought with the appetites of 9 children that it might be our best way to go.

The weeks go by and I get a call from DSis #2 that her husband had a confernce the same week we picked and decided not to go with us, she was torn because she doesn't have any children and she treats all of our kids like her own and for us to go there without her with crushing. Needless to say my sons and nephews were also crushed that she wouldn't be going with us.

2 weeks later and my DSis and her husband started divorce proceedings and needless to say she wouldn't be able to afford to go to Disney.

Okay, I am totally bummed at this point but I still have my DBro and DSIL and their 3 sons (who are the same ages as my oldest three and they are all like brothers more than cousins) going with us so we would be able to do total commando without all the others going, right?

WELL.................DBro had to cancel after Christmas when my DN found out his finals were going to be the same week as the trip. You may be saying, change the dates then, right? Wrong, I had to get special permission to go the week we picked because it was our black out dates at work and I could NOT change my dates.

Needless to say going to WDW with just my 4 sons for 9 days without any other family members would have gone like this...

this ride would have been better with (fill in family member name)
we would have had more fun here with (fill in the family member name)

and I was not going to spend more than $5000 on a trip to hear that even once. So.. I decided to skip WDW for 2007 and we tried a Carniavl cruise. We went, we loved it and we will do a cruise again in 2 years (to Italy this time for 12 days and I am really looking forward to that, by the way it will be cheaper than 9 days in Disney by $1,000 because it includes all food and drinks.) The only problem? I promised my younger two DS's that a trip to Disney was in their near future and this Mom does not lie. They have had some real rough times over the last 7 years and the only thing they can count on is their Mom and she doesn't let them down!! :cool1: :cool1: We have very little money but I put aside my income tax money every other year (off years is for house repairs and bills)to have some sort of vacation, usually it is weekends of camping near by or a family trip to see our extended family in PA (we live in Niagara Falls NY so seeing the other family members is a 6 hour drive for us so it is considered a vacation, lol.)

Next up..."What do you mean we are not allowed to go?"

Great start, I'm in!
And I guess I'll have to check out cruises to Italy now!

Thanks for the reply Winkers!! I have a reader, this made my night:thumbsup2

On with the story...

My DSis contacted me 2 months ago and told me no matter what she was taking her girls to Disney in May of 2008, she has had an up and down year and needed something to look forward to. I told her I was in but May was out for me (again black out month for my vacation and there was NO way they would let me get special permission 2 years in a row) and they changed our school districts vacation time for Spring 2008 so, if she could swing the beginning of April then I was in.

Well, she is a store manager and since Easter would be over already she would be able to go in April, but she was worried about Spring break at WDW and the prices and crowds.

That's when my mission started. I found the Disboard (well my DSis #2 told me about it) and I started reading and was waiting to get the 2008 WDW prices to make our final decision on when we were going to go. My family members have only gone to Disney during valu season so the crowds would be smaller and when we went there were times we were the only people in some of the restuarants and we would walk on to rides with no waits so we are spoiled.

My DBIL (DVC owner and Disney know it all  ) insisted that April would be Peak season and had my DSis convinced that we couldn't swing it financially. Guess what HE WAS WRONG!!!:rotfl: I checked all the on line sites every day, several times a day (luckily my boss is in a seperate building from me and did not hear the Disney theme song every 1/2 hour from my computer, lol) and when the schedules came out, April is regular season and we could afford to go!!!

I called my DSis and we did happy dances :woohoo: over the phone and we said we will start planning that weekend.

After we got off the phone I realized that I had never planned a trip to Disney, it was always done by others and I went for the ride because they all had been there several x 10 times, they knew everything, I knew hardly knew anything. I was in a slight panic mode. So I sat my self down and told myself "Self, you planned and completed a vacation with 4 boys for a week all by yourself and managed to get back home with all 4 kids and no one in the family had ever been on a cruise that you could go to for advice, you can do this" So I am doing what I do with any new challenge, I become obsessive!!

First things first though, I had to inform my oldest two sons that because we are going in April and they will still be classes at college they could not go with us (college first, the rest of the world second is my motto!) and of course I did this with witness's around me so that I would still be alive when the news was broken to them. :scared1:
That's when I heard "WHAT DO YOU MEAN WERE NOT ALLOWED TO GO WITH YOU!!!!!"

Needless to say, happiness was not the emotion that was forth coming but I pointed out to them that they had been to Disney several times between them over the last few years without me and DS,15 and DS,8 and had no regrets or sympathy for us, right? I also promised gifts from the trip, they grumbled and I moved on.

Trip planning mode!!

DSis and I discussed what day to go and what day to come home. We really wanted more than a week but staying 2 weekends with the new prices was going to be tight and the flights were more expensive flying weekend to weekend. We decided to go April 9th (Wednesday) to April 17th (Thursday.)

Coming up where to stay and DDP or no DDP, where are we eating? Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach? What days do we do the what parks? Do I break down and buy Crocs which I think are THE ugliest form of footwear in the entire world but because so many Dis'ers swear by them should I give them a try? Who is the Mike guy everyone is talking about?

Side note...let me know if I am too wordy, too boring or need something in this pre trip report, please.

Back to our planning....

DSis and I have made a deal concerning the trip. She wants to pick the Moderate priced resort since CBR will be under some construction and that was our first choice. I agree but on the condition that I got to pick the ADR's.
My little Dsis is a force of nature when she wants to be but I won out on this deal. She chose POFQ and the rest of the trip was up to me as long as we could relax every couple of days. I double checked what she meant by "relax" and thought WDW and relax? I didn't think they went together at least not the way we did the parks the other two times we went.
I informed her that Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach would be her relaxation, she saw the gleam in my eye and went with it.

I also knew that I would never make all the ADR's or park choices without everyone's input, it was only fair. So I have started "Disney Night" every 2 weeks where me and the DSis and all our off spring that are included in the trip sit down and look at the restuarants and menus (thanks to this site) and all the parks and rides (not really necessary since this part is already memorized by all of us:)) and make suggestions.

I created a folder with slots for each day with a slot for lunch and dinner and parks (two a day if necessary) and "have to" rides at those parks.

I then made a card (with pictures/menus, characters that would be at the ADR's, etc) for all the restuarants we've been talking about and some extras (just in case we can't get an ADR) and all the main rides they want to see and the kids are having a blast putting the cards in the slots and seeing the trip come alive in front of their eyes.

I read on this site about all the hand made autograph books and my DS,8 and I went to Walmart to the scrapebooking section and got some great character items for his and my DN,6 to create their own autograph books.
We decided to work on these when the kids are on school vacations so they can have something to do during the down hours. Luckily my Dsis and I only
live 2 miles from each other and we visit all the time.

Something else I found at Walmart was some really cool Magic Key holders that are clear heavy duty plastic with characters on them (of course this is not the intended reason they were created but for us it will work great.) There are flaps on them so the cards CAN'T fall out.

By the way my sons want to know what is going here since they have'nt been able to get more than 5 minutes each on the computer since I found the Dis Boards and what am I reading about anyway? After I explained that I have been reading about everyone else's trip to WDW and what they found that we knew nothing about (example: Tinkerbell being woken up in the morning in her shop on Main Street) they are "allowing" me to stay on the computer. They actually think there are choices here in this house when it comes down to me and the Dis boards, lol. Silly silly little men:goodvibes .

Okay time for me to get ready to make final plans for our ADR's, yeah right, who am I kidding, :confused3 every time I read a different report I am dying to try the restuarants they went to and I change my mind again and again!

It's official, my family thinks I'm insane.:sad2:

I called my DSIL this morning to tell her about something I had read on the Dis reports and she informed me that 1. if I ever call her on a Saturday morning at 7:30 am again without someone having to go to the emergency room it would be me going to the hospital 2. I must not start another conversation with "I was reading this Dis report and...." ever ever again.

My DSil is very jealous that we are going to Disney again and she is unable to go for a few more years (her boys are too little) She normally lets me sgo on and on about it since they get to go places and do things that I am unable to schedule into my life but I think the 7:30 am wake up call was too much today.

Okay all who have stayed at POFQ can you please tell me which building to ask for? We have no clue to which to ask for? Is there one section nicer than the other?:confused3

Well, we had our Disney Meeting yesterday over a nice pot of coffee while the wind blew outside and we dreamed of palm trees and a heat index higher than 50 degrees.:lmao:

Found out my DSis wants to sleep in a few days while we are in WDW. SLEEP IN!!!!!!!!! Granted I am up at 6 am everyday of the week (internal clock) and the thought of traveling all the way to WDW and not being at the parks first thing in the morning is very hard for me to handle but it is all our vacation (crap!)

So we decided that whoever is up when I am up and ready to go is more than welcome to go with me and the other children can meet up with us later with my DSis. BUT this will only be allowed for three of the 10 days we will be there.

Next up....I found out with the Mike guy is and I have signed up but can he handle my crew?

If your sister wants to sleep in a day or two, I traveled to WDW with my sister and her family last October and I found that our cell phones worked well so it was very easy for us to meet up when we were in the parks.

I had a good laugh over you calling your dsis so early and starting conversations about what you discovered on the dis boards! I did that to my family last year and I think they were all ready to strangle me. My little brother who lives 3 states away, even said "oh no, she's talking about disney again!" while rolling his eyes! Obsessed? Me??? :lmao:

I don't think my sanity could handle taking extended family with me. You are a saint!:wizard:

Thanks for the responses! :cool1:

I have to say bringing this DSis will be different from being with my older DSis who is very easy going but we are both compromiser's so it could work out well. She is just tired of the "Dis reports" but at the same time she is very glad that I am finding out special things that she never knew about. She's just jealous that I have a high super speed laptop with wireless DSL and she has an old computer with dial up. She very rarely goes on line. I get to lay in bed with my laptop and surf away.

OH OH!!! My DSis won a trip to Mexico for 4 days at the Palace Resort in Cancun all expenses paid and she INVITED me to go with her!!!!!! So we get to go opn 2 trips in 2008 (she has until Dec 08 to take it and we chose Oct 08 to go so we have something to look forward to after Disney)

We are booking my DS, 8 and my DN,6 on the pirates cruise pirate: from GF and will take the older 2 kids to a special breakfast while we are little kids free.

We were hoping to find something that they could do by themselves (DS,15, DN,14) so we could do the spa stuff at the GF (our gift to ourselves :cloud9: ) but WDW doesn't seem to have anything for that age group. If anyone knows of something PLEASE let me know !!

We used the cell phone thing when we went with 17 of us 5 years ago and that worked out okay but I know I will end up with all 4 kids in the mornings when she is sleeping in.They LOVE  thier Aunt and I'm the cool one in the family when it comes to my 2 DN's, having four boys and no girls I get to spoil them with everything I would have bought for my girls, if I had any.

I found some special gifts for Christmas :santa: for my DN,14, DN,6 and DS,8 from ebayexpress and I would post pictures of them but the site isn't allowing me to do it. :sad1: (I buy Christmas gifts year round so if I see something that is really special I just snag it and save it for Christmas- one problem-I sometimes forget that I bought some of the loot or forget where I hid it :rolleyes1 ) I also play Christmas music starting in September :dance3:

Anyway....my DN,14 is a Tinkerbell freak and I bought her a pink drawstring totebag (for the parks and plane ride) with Tink on it with a matching wallet and a Tink Lanyard with 4 tink pins for trading..total cost $20!!!!
For DN,6...Princess tote bag with a matching coloring kit (crayons, markers, coloring book, etc.) and wallet for $6.95
DS,8...Mickey tote bag and matching wallet and Mickey Lanyard with 5 pins $21.

DS,15 is way toooooo cool :cool2: for anything like this but plans on buying his Goofy bball cap as soon s he gets to WDW :goofy: Maybe I can find one before we leave (DISNEY store did you say? It would be perfect since DSil gets a 30% discount there, yes I bow to her everytime we go shopping.)

TGMIke is still waiting for April 08 schedules so I am a little stuck in planning waiting for EMH times. Can't use last years cuz it was Easter time then, bummer.

Well, it's months until we go to WDW but it will go fast right? RIGHT? HEY NO ONE IS ANSWERING ME!!!!

Went to my parents for my Dad's 80th birthday party and they just got home from WDW on Saturday. They can't believe we are going to book meals for every night (well almost every night) that we are going to be at WDW. They play it by ear every day but they also go every year for a few weeks and they lived near WDW for 4 years all winter long and did thier daily walks at different parks every evening. I don't have that luxuary plus we are using the DDP so we want to make sure that we have the right ADR's.

We will plan parks for certain days but as long as we hit each one twice we're not cementing any of the plans. You never know if it's going to be raining, etc.

It looks like my DNephew, 15 might be joining my little group now. His parents (my DSil and DB's) are going to think about it. They want to go too but because of a possible change in my brother's job come January they aren't sure what they are going to do. I would love for my DN, 15 to go with us he is a real good kid and he has never gotten to go without his older DB's.

He is like me and only likes certain types of rides so he will keep me and my DN,6 company for them :)

Getting ready to go camping for the weekend so will ttyl

Just found the link to another new "thing" that Disney has set up on their website (it's actually called Disney link) :surfweb: and I get now have this mickey mouse ears on my desktop and it sends me messages with all their new parades, rides, etc. and anything else going on in any Disney park. I was also able to create my own "fairy" from it last night (my sons thinnk I am a total freak now):scared1:

There is a new parade coming to MGM in Spring 2008 and I am totally pysched for it. :cheer2:

I made our ADR's (this is what we have so far)

9th Contemporary Chef Mickey’s 5:20
10th Epcot World Showcase LeCellier Canada 6:00 changing to Prime Time

11th Magic Kingdom Liberty Tree Tavern 5:45
12th Magic Kingdom Tony’s Town Square Restaurant 6:10 change to Coral Reef
13th Polyenesian Ohana’s 10:20
14th Wilderness Lodge Whispering Canyon 6:20

15th MGM 50’s Prime Time 5:15 changing to LeCellier Canada

16th magic Kingdom Crystal Palace 5:45 change to breakfast

We will be making the changes in red after we get to sit down and go over this as a group.
Remember part of our deal was my DSis gets to pick the resort and I get to pick the ADR's. I picked out all of everyone's favorites but after telling Dsis I made the ADR's and we discussed some other places we heard about that we wanted to try. We still have some time and if we don't get them that's fine too. We are just making sure we have have some ADR's made since we came into some small problems concerning getting one table for our group versis 2 tables near each other. IF you have any suggestions let me know
