Hi to all you great Dis'ers. I am a bit nervous writing my first trip report and in this case my first pre trip report and I may not get all the lingo right but I thought, what the heck I'd give it a try.
Cast:
MK (me), 44, single mother of 4 sons (20, 17,15, 8) been to WDW only twice
DS, 20, has been to Disney 6 times
DS, 17, has been to Disney 4 times
DS,15, been to WDW 2 twice and is thrilled that his two older brothers are not going (College schedules doesn't match with ours) and he can finally start catching up with the amount times that they have gone to WDW.
DS,8, has been to Disney once and can't wait to go but would rather be going on a historical tour of the USA (I'm not sure where I went wrong with this child but it's obvious that he has had too much schooling and this must STOP!)
DSis, 41, newly single mother of 2 daughters, has been to WDW more than 10 times.
DN, 14, (oldest daughter of my sister above) she is shy and is not a risk taker AT ALL. SHe has been to WDW 5 or 6 times I believe.
DN, 6 (youngest daughter of my sister above) and she is the dare devil, take no prisoners kind of girl. She was so small when she went to Disney the last time that she doesn't remember most of what we did except for what she watches on DVD (brother created to music with video and snapshots and is unbelievable) almost every week.
A little background:
I am a single Mom (for 7 years) with 4 sons, 2 are in college (Adam, 20 and soon to be 21, local at Niagara University and the other, Mitch, 17 but 18 in a month, I just drove to Rhode Island to his new home for the next 4 years at Johnson & Wales University) and still have 2 more at home, Jordan, 15 and Ryan 8.
My first trip to Disney was with my 3 sons (Ryan was just a twinkle in my eye then) and at the time husband and we were joined by my older sister, Sue and her husband Fran (the ones who own DVC) and my parents who had just sold thier retirement home near Disney. My older two boys had already gone to Disney before me (funny how parents spoil thier grandchilden and I whined for years how my off spring went before me.)
The second time was a few years after my divorce and a much needed break from real life. My whole family had weekly dinners at my parents house then and once I started planning the trip with Sue the rest of the family decided to join in. My brother has 3 sons and they are all the same ages as my oldest three boys so they paired up and I have to say that this was the best vacation of my entire 44 years. There wasn't one fight the whole 8 days we were there and everyone was laid back and was up for anything that anyone wanted to do. It was tough planning in parts because the age differences in the 9 kids went from 2 years old to 15 years old but the boys were so excited to watch the youngest two see everything for the first time.
Background...
In Fall of 2006 my DSis, DBro and DSis #2 (older by 2 years and is a DVC owner) decided to go to Disney together again since the last time went so well. My family has many family dinners together and we started planning the dates, moderate on site (off site is non-disney to us) hotels and DDP vs not DDP. None of us has ever used the DDP before and we thought with the appetites of 9 children that it might be our best way to go.
The weeks go by and I get a call from DSis #2 that her husband had a confernce the same week we picked and decided not to go with us, she was torn because she doesn't have any children and she treats all of our kids like her own and for us to go there without her with crushing. Needless to say my sons and nephews were also crushed that she wouldn't be going with us.
2 weeks later and my DSis and her husband started divorce proceedings and needless to say she wouldn't be able to afford to go to Disney.
Okay, I am totally bummed at this point but I still have my DBro and DSIL and their 3 sons (who are the same ages as my oldest three and they are all like brothers more than cousins) going with us so we would be able to do total commando without all the others going, right?
WELL.................DBro had to cancel after Christmas when my DN found out his finals were going to be the same week as the trip. You may be saying, change the dates then, right? Wrong, I had to get special permission to go the week we picked because it was our black out dates at work and I could NOT change my dates.
Needless to say going to WDW with just my 4 sons for 9 days without any other family members would have gone like this...
this ride would have been better with (fill in family member name)
we would have had more fun here with (fill in the family member name)
and I was not going to spend more than $5000 on a trip to hear that even once. So.. I decided to skip WDW for 2007 and we tried a Carniavl cruise. We went, we loved it and we will do a cruise again in 2 years (to Italy this time for 12 days and I am really looking forward to that, by the way it will be cheaper than 9 days in Disney by $1,000 because it includes all food and drinks.) The only problem? I promised my younger two DS's that a trip to Disney was in their near future and this Mom does not lie. They have had some real rough times over the last 7 years and the only thing they can count on is their Mom and she doesn't let them down!!
We have very little money but I put aside my income tax money every other year (off years is for house repairs and bills)to have some sort of vacation, usually it is weekends of camping near by or a family trip to see our extended family in PA (we live in Niagara Falls NY so seeing the other family members is a 6 hour drive for us so it is considered a vacation, lol.)
Next up..."What do you mean we are not allowed to go?"

) insisted that April would be Peak season and had my DSis convinced that we couldn't swing it financially. Guess what HE WAS WRONG!!!
I checked all the on line sites every day, several times a day (luckily my boss is in a seperate building from me and did not hear the Disney theme song every 1/2 hour from my computer, lol) and when the schedules came out, April is regular season and we could afford to go!!!
over the phone and we said we will start planning that weekend.
) and make suggestions.
.
every time I read a different report I am dying to try the restuarants they went to and I change my mind again and again!

So we get to go opn 2 trips in 2008 (she has until Dec 08 to take it and we chose Oct 08 to go so we have something to look forward to after Disney)
from GF and will take the older 2 kids to a special breakfast while we are little kids free.
) but WDW doesn't seem to have anything for that age group. If anyone knows of something PLEASE let me know !!
thier Aunt and I'm the cool one in the family when it comes to my 2 DN's, having four boys and no girls I get to spoil them with everything I would have bought for my girls, if I had any.
for my DN,14, DN,6 and DS,8 from ebayexpress and I would post pictures of them but the site isn't allowing me to do it.
(I buy Christmas gifts year round so if I see something that is really special I just snag it and save it for Christmas- one problem-I sometimes forget that I bought some of the loot or forget where I hid it
) I also play Christmas music starting in September
for anything like this but plans on buying his Goofy bball cap as soon s he gets to WDW
Maybe I can find one before we leave (
and I get now have this mickey mouse ears on my desktop and it sends me messages with all their new parades, rides, etc. and anything else going on in any Disney park. I was also able to create my own "fairy" from it last night (my sons thinnk I am a total freak now)
