Yes, many people like to think of certain issues as being American and thus something that "we " all believe in.

While most Americans might still fit into the same

The main problem is that you may be extending cover for people in the government that are not in argeement with premise at all.

if you mean all Americans then it seems "we" would be best left out of your lexicon.

if you mean the family on the CB, well it's made up of a wide range on Americans as well as several other contries.

Until Earth is comprised of a civilized society the term "we" is going to be hard to justify using unless you have checked with everyone you mean to include or list the people you mean to refer to first.

It is amazing to see someone say they are opposed to killing or torturing people but are in favor of a war when a war consists of little else.

You are not against killing people if you are in favor of killing anyone that is killing people.

You do not get to pick, choose or judge, either
You are for killing people or
You are against killing people.

The sooner people realize that there is no middle ground on this the sooner wars will cease to exist.

This is a long way off and there is little hope of anyone here seeing it happen, but as long as

I don't refer to myself as Irish American (I only did now to make a point) unless someone asks about my heritage, but if someone else wants to call themselves _______ American, I have absolutely no problem with it. I personally don't care what anyone wants to refer to themselves as. I have a problem when they expect everyone else to refer to them as that. Before anyone has a fit and says that is not true - In my son's private school the black people had a fit because the administration referred to MLK as a black man - not an African American man ***???? We are all American, we don't need titles to divide!

IMO adding a hyphen dilutes the significance of your nationality.

I am Native American and proud of it, as should African Americans or any other prefix you put in front of it. My ancestors were here long before any other group arrived. I still am as American as the ones who only use American are. I love this land as the ones who came before me did. What difference does it make how WE address ourselves, and why should we leave here because we do address ourselves as _______ American. Thats like me saying my people were here first, you leave. Its really silly.

Truth---In the last 100 years, list a few good things that talking (detante) rather than war has accomplished (be specific and the achievements must be real and long lasting). But, in the same light list a few good things that war has done. Be fair. I'll wager that war has actually done more good than bad as sad as I am to say that. You see, I am a soldier or used to be one. Soldiers understand more than anyone else the value of peace. We prize peace more than anything on earth, but we understand the necessity at times of military engagements and solutions. War is an aboration to you it seems. To some it is a tool. To some it is an inevitible situation that has a determinate end with substantial consequences for someone. War has many victims and that plays out on many different levels. In the end you can only hope that mankind is served to some degree by the completion of the hostility. Seeking to justify the hostility, when one is at the crux of anti establishment philosophy, is foolhardy. Any established rule or policy by the current administration is fuel for your disgruntlement. This seems obvious by the tone of your posts here on the CB. You hate Bush and everything he does, says, or proposes. That is fine. Vote for someone else. Let us vote for anyone we please.
