What do you love and hate about your side by side fridge?

Samsung

Like that it has separate coils for fridge and freezer. Love getting ice without opening the door.

Hate that nothing big fits in the freezer. I'd had a side by side before (much bigger) and hated it. DH insisted on the side by side this time. The only reason why I didn't outright refuse is that I already had a 10cf freezer.

The glass shelves are great as are the baskets in the freezer for all the frozen veggies. Haven't had a bag fall on my foot yet!

We've had a standard (freezer on top) for almost 9 years now that works great. But, we're building a new house, so wanted to upgrade. The only side by side I could see purchasing would be Maytag's wide by side. I really don't get the appeal of the side by sides and why they are so popular. We lived at a friend's house over the summer who has a side by side. The refrigerator was always so crowded. I had to laugh because I asked at one point why they bought the side by side, and she said "Because we needed a really big refrigerator." :confused3 More cubic feet, maybe so, but you sure can't put anything in it.

And personally, I hate the water and ice in the door. The kids were constantly dropping ice on the floor and leaving little puddles by the refrigerator door. I could handle the water in the door, but it's not a necessity. Just open the door and get the water bottle out. Not that big of a deal.

We will more than likely purchase LG's french door model when we finish the house. I love that refrigerator!

For me the appeal is that I don't want my kids putting their hands in the ice.
I don't trust them not to handle pets etc.. and then get ice

We bought a fridgidaire last year and love it. It has a spot next to the ice maker inside for a pizza to fit into. The thing I hate is dh talked me into buying black and it shows everything. You have to clean it with window cleaner about every day or it looks really bad.

That sounds like mine... except we got the stainless steel one. I had a black regular (non side by side) before that and it looked so dark in my kitchen. I love my side by side! (with Mickey pretzel magnets on it, of course!)

Because I am really vertically challanged the bottom freezer doesn't work. I would be able to get into the freezer no problem but the fridge would be useless from the middle of it up to the top.
I am also "vertically challenged" (< 5 ft) and so far my French Door/bottom freezer model works well for me! There's so much flexibility in arranging shelves that I can put taller things that are easy to grap up higher and smaller things that I need to get to often lower. Other features I really like are the deli/meat drawer at the lowest level (easy to see things, don't have dig around in it to get stuff) with it's own temp control, and right above that 2 crisper drawers also each with their own humidity control. The only downside is no water in the door - it's inside the refrig. in our KitchenAid model. We also have counter depth which cuts down on overall space but again the flexibility of shelf arrangement make up for it. This is SUCH an improvement over the days of things falling out of the top freezer at me :rotfl:

I can see that. I guess our household just runs a little differently. We rarely, I mean, very rarely, use ice. Sodas are bought in the can, juice boxes for the kids, everyone has their own water bottle that stays cold in the frig, etc. The only time we use ice is when we're having company over for dinner, and I've made iced tea. Other than that, it rarely gets used.
