What do you LOVE about Cozumel and what should we do there?

We just booked our first 7 day, for next June. Is it really hot then in the Caribbean? Also, this is going to Cozumel, Costa Maya and CC twice. So, tell me anything and everything. :) Any tips for something we could do on our own, especially walking to beaches? My DH wants to do the ruins, I don't have any interest in this, but he could go on his own or with our oldest. So, any ideas?

On our June 04 disney cruise we stopped at Cozumel and I fell in LOVE with the water. We had set up a snorkeling trip through Eagle Ray Divers, not through Disney and boy did we have a blast. The water was beautiful and the snorkeling guide was terrific. He even took our waterproof camera and took pictures for us. It was neat because he was a free diver and could get much deeper then either of us.

I would highly recommend snorkeling when you are there.

Thanks, can you tell me about the cost? Where did you meet him? Did you bring your own equipment? How long did it last? thanks!

Last October, we also did a snorkel excursion with Eagle Ray and I can't tell you how VERY happy we were with them. It was a wonderful, low-key personallized excursion! If you want a little more detail, I did a trip report - the post with our Cozumel experiences in at http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=680305

You can also get more info about Eagle Ray at their website www.eagleraydivers.com

We did the catamaran snorkle and beach party....it was a BLAST!!! Then for a little "adult" excitement head to Carlos and Charlies and do a shot.... :cool1: That's the pic.........

:wave2: Jillpie, I just wanted to say Hi! We are also booked for that cruise, the 24th of June right? I am really looking forward to reading the trip reports from the Costa Maya cruises coming up!

www.cozumelhomes.com has a neat looking dune buggy adventure. You get to drive your own dune buggy. We are going to try this when we go there.

We took a cab to Paradise Beach and loved it, the beach was great, free to get in, clean bathroom, and fresh water showers, for $5 you get a wristband to get on the trampoline, climb the iceberg, use the sea kayaks, and use the snorkel equipment, we had a great time.....

Yes, we brought our own equipment, however, when I booked the reservation Chellie asked our shoe sizes so that she could have fins for us just in case we decided not to bring ours. We only did the 2 reef snorkel trip because we were not sure how our DD (7 going on 8) would do. She made the first site but not the second. We also did the snorkel trip through Disney in Grand Cayman and hated it. The only fish that we saw were the ones that were attracted by the chum the captain through in the water. Not impressive. In Cozumel it was wonderfully clear and plenty of ocean life. It may have been just luck but it turned out to be just the three of us snorkeling so we had the guide all to ourselves. He was terrific.

It lasted quite awhile but I do not remember exactly. I think we left early morning and did not get back until after lunch (I remember we had to eat chicken fingers).

One downside was that we had to take a taxi to the pier where Eagle Ray works out of. It would not have been a problem but somewhere between our room and getting off the ship that day I lost the instructions on how to get there. What trully surprised me was that we went to another pier by accident told them who we were looking for and they helped out tremendously. We only arrived 15 minutes late.

If you have any other questions let me know.

While in cozumel we did the Fury catamaran snorkel trip. Best trip I have been on, the crew was fun, the beer cold and free, the snorkling was so-so, but they take you to a beautiful private beach for a couple of hours where we rode horses thru the jungle for an additional cost. on our first rip to Cozumel we went to Paradise beach which has nice facilities but the beach is really rocky and the water is cloudy.

Wow, so many great ideas! Thank you everyone!

Has anyone been to Chankanaab Bay? My daughter wants to do the dolphin swim and they have one. I would prefer a nice beach to lay on and swim, but she has her heart set on the dolphins. Is there anything else to do at Chankanaab Bay? How is the swimming. I heard they don't have a beach because it is very rocky. Can you spend a whole day there? We will be stopping there in early Dec. Thanks. Debby

Chankanaab is great! The actual beach is rocky, but they have steps that you walk on into the water - though this is actually hard to do if the water is choppy at all. They have a little natural "wading pool" that is very sandy and suitable to kids. My kids loved the fake Mayan Ruins and the Dolphin Swim was incredible (be ready to buy photos and the video)! I would also like to see the Sea Lion and Bird shows. We would go back again. There is also a restaurant (open air) right on the beach where you can get food and drinks. Get there early to secure an umbrella on the beach (which is sandy) it is only rocky where you enter the water.

We did the same thing and had a FANTASTIC time - Would definitely go there again!!!!

~Am thinking of doing the trip to Chankanaab and wonder if you can do this without pre-booking and any idea of cost etc. How far is it can you get transport independantly and how long should you allow?

For those that have loved Paradise Beach, do you agree with this and is it worth travelling to for the day?
