What do you love about BOARDWALK?

We are currently booked at WL for the week of Christmas. Due to construction and our "magical" rate we are being moved to another resort. Our only option for a deluxe, without a rate change is the Boardwalk. I have never been interested in this resort. YC and BC get much more praise as far as Epcot resorts go. So, please tell me what you love about this resort. It's not going to be an easy sell for my dh. He's a WL diehard, especially for Christmas.

I would be thrilled with this! I had a stay at WL last December when the pool refurb was finishing up. I really, really disliked the construction walls and equipment. I think the ambiance of the resort was really compromised. My favorite WDW location are the Epcot resorts. Walking in and out of Epcot for food and drink, the atmosphere of the Boardwalk at night...all great. The resort is beautifully decorated during the holidays. It isn't the huge lobby and tree of WL, which I agree is wonderful during the holidays, but I would pick BW over WL pretty much any time.

The Boardwalk is one of my favorites!! I've stayed at WL and, while I think it is beautiful and we still go on almost every trip to eat at Artist Point, we will probably never stay there again. The rooms were too small for us and I felt quite isolated with only a boat to MK and bus everywhere else.

BWI is fantastic! You will have a bigger room, can walk to both EP and DHS, have tons of dining options, entertainment on the Boardwalk every night. Imagine going to Illuminations or Osbourne Lights and simply walking back to your resort! I also love the decor of Boardwalk. So many beautiful, interesting objects in the lobby. Great places to just sit and enjoy the Boardwalk, too. If you google Boardwalk Inn WDW Christmas, you'll see a lot of links to pictures and even You Tube videos of how it's decorated at Christmas. They usually even have a gingerbread house where you can buy treats.

We've stayed in a few different categories at BWI from standard to concierge to villas at BWV and we've never been disappointed. And if you are getting the room at the same rate that you would get for WL, that's a great upgrade!!

As far as EP resorts, BC and BWI tie for first for me, followed by YC and then Swan/Dolphin. The atmosphere and proximity to EP and DHS just can't be beat!

We love the BWI in our views only. Best CM's decorations & the distance to Epcot & DHS. Everything we enjoy is at the Boardwalk. We still like the MK resorts but given the choice we will take the BWI. We have tried every Deluxe Resorts except for the BC which to us doesn't appeal to us. Maybe too many kids. Not sure why. Done the Yacht Club which was okay, walls a bit thin as you can hear the room next to you flush the toilet lol. You won't regret changing over.

In one word everything!!!! We have stayed at Wilderness Lodge once back in 04-nice but missed the Boardwalk. This year we got relocated from Boardwalk Club to Polynesian due to construction. We even got put into a new bungalow. Still missed the Boardwalk.
We love being able to walk to two parks and the atmosphere is so laid back and relaxing. Can't wait to get back:love:

Everything, Is right....

Unfortunately you'll be losing out on WL, which at XMas time is really really awesome... But What you do get is a beautiful resort that is right in the heart of all the action...

Your not secluded like WL is..You have tons of different things going on all around you. With both parks being so close, and 4 other resorts well within walking distance. The Boardwalk itself comes to life too.
You are actually close to mini golf which is fun as well.

Nothing to fear here, Except for maybe the C-L-O-W-N Pool, if that's not your bag..LoL <-- great slide & pool though...

I'm sure after showing him some videos &/or pictures, he won't be as reluctant to go there. And once there, I'm sure it'll be hard to get him to switch back...LoL Good Luck!

Thanks everyone for the reassurance! I'm actually getting kind of excited now. My dh looked at some of the BWI pics last night and location and I think he's on board. My 14 year old said she was excited because she thought WL was getting kind of boring. I'm hoping for the another magical experience!!

Of all the Epcot area resorts, Boardwalk is my favorite - can't beat the way it looks at night! Love the atmosphere, and, of course, it's proximity to Epcot and DHS. In fact, will go as far as to say it's our favorite Deluxe to stay at even though we love the atmosphere and to visit AKL and WL.

BWI won't seem boring for your 14 year old, and you guys might just find yourselves loving the entire Epcot resort area! I remember the time we discovered that area -- we walked through the International Gateway and couldn't believe our eyes! It's so beautiful over there :cloud9:. And so much to do and see -- lots of night life too! One thing we love doing is renting a surrey bike at night and riding around the water while Illuminations is going. Espn Club is fun. You can also walk to mini golf....

BWI is our favorite resort and we've stayed at nearly all of them. The location can't be beat -- walk to DHS and Epcot. I'd choose it over WL any day of the week. Enjoy your stay here; sounds like you're getting a great rate.

ITA. We've never stayed at BWI, but we've stayed at BC and YC. We much prefer the Epcot resorts to WL, we've stayed there as well. We are currently in love with the Grand Floridian, but are looking forward to trying BWI once the kids are a bit older and our trips aren't so MK centered.

We stayed at both the BWI and the WL on our honeymoon, and we much prefer the BWI. We love the location as it's great for going out for dinner to any of the many restaurants around the lake and the World Showcase, which are all walkable. It's like being in a mini DTD. The boat ride to the other locations is also much nicer than the WL version.

We love the theme. Yes it's not over the top, in your face like Wilderness Lodge, but it's more relaxing, and feels like the place is as expensive as we paid for it. As all the amenities except for the lounge are on the Boardwalk itself, the hotel is relaxed and quiet, as the only people in the hotel tend to be the guests staying there. And as it is a relatively small resort, that means less people about.

Finally, the Boardwalk Bakery is there. My favourite QS on site for breakfast. The pastries are all snacks on the DDP, and they are huge.

The only upsides I see to the WL are that it's better for younger kids due to the cool theme and the more kid friendly dining, and for MK fans it's obviously much closer.

Boardwalk is by far my favorite resort. So much to do on the actual boardwalk, the view at night is stunning, and location is perfect. As PP said, it's very quiet and relaxing, but has so much just steps from your room. We like to have nightly arcade game contests before going to dinner, and have a ton of mini basketballs to prove it. :)

I'm getting excited now!!! Thanks again for all of your replies. Can you guys tell me what you would do for quick service and refillable mugs? I'm having a hard time visualizing it.

The Boardwalk Bakery has good quick service. Sorry, I'm not a refillable mug fan, so really don't know anything about them.
