We are heading back to the world in Sept and I plan on doing a dinning review for the places we eat. I am making a checklist of things to note for the review and was wondering, What does everybody look for when reading reviews? Is there one specific thing that you look for besides the general info?
Maybe the wait tiem after the ADR time? Maybe the character interaction, food selection or is it Quality vs Quanity? Just wondering

Thanks Dave Goofydad Dionne

That's true.
I always like to see some observation on how folks were dressed (if it's a signature restaurant). I also prefer reading about one restaurant at a time. Service is always important too.

I agree, photos are good. Also, describe the atmosphere of the restaurant, if it's crowded and how the staff are handling it, the arrangement of the entrees with side items. Describe the textures of the food and rate the flavors. I'm not interested in the service, unless it seems to be a common problem with all servers- service and quality are always changing. Tell us what your favorites are :thumbsup2

I agree LOVE photos! I like to read about your waiting time, service, and of course quality of the food as well as any special moments..

I love pics. Pics of the food, pics of the entrance, the environment, etc. I like to hear what everyone had, how it tasted, cost, overall experience, etc. Most everything that's listed already.

Photos!!!! Not too bothered about prices, but I do like a good description and marks or grades :thumbsup2

I think you're going to get that everyone loves photos, including myself. I like really descriptive reviews, especially for the food. I also like them when there formatted a certail way, like this;

Name of Restaurant with location and such.

Summary of restaurant, surrondings, etc.

I had _______ as an appetizer, ______ as an entree, and ______ as dessert.

Then go into each item individually with more specific details.

My reviews aren't as lengthy as I'd like, since I'm always solo, and don't have anyone to share the dining experience with. One of my few regrets of traveling solo is having no one to share food with, not that I mind eating by myslef, but I enjoy company at my meals.

That's funny because I'm not really interested in photos. For me, I prefer the reviews that are more flesh out the experience more than ones that only offer two or three sentences per restaurant. Those don't really offer enough information to be very useful, IMHO. I also appreciate people's take on the DDP and whether or not it worked for them. I guess the bottom line is that however you do it, you'll please some but not others!

Photos!!!

They seem to make the story come alive!!

I like to hear about the small details (atmosphere, wait time, service, transportation there, etc...). :surfweb:

Not so much what I would like to see in a review, but I really appreciate it when the name of the restaurant(s) are in the title of the post! Thanks! Have a great trip!!

This is what I would consider a most helpful review.

1. Seperate your restaurants. A date and time would be helpful also. I tend to get way lost in the big 12 day threads.
2. Always make sure to list exactly what was ordered because one thing may stink, and another may be to die for at the same restaurant.
3. Try to be specific. What was good about it, what wasn't so good.
The meal sucked isn't all that helpful. What went wrong. Was it to temperature? Was it spicey? Or was the food good but the service stank.
4. Try to give an idea of who might like it, and who might not.
5. Pictures are great. But all pictures and no verbiage leaves me wanting.
6. Try to give an accurate picture of quantity and quality.
7. An overall take on the value from either a cash perspective, a meal plan perspective, or both. A meal that is expensive and the portions a bit small may not be worth the out of pocket price. But it may be well worth the one credit it costs on the meal plan. Or it may stink so badly, it isn't worth either. Or it just may be that good.

I prefer to see one restuarant viewed at a time and photos are always a nice touch.

I really appreciate the time that it takes to write up the reviews, therefore I am grateful for anything that is in them.

I agree, this is the formula for a good dining review. I also like to hear a little about the "cast"--for example, if DH hated his meal at Coral Reef, it may help to know that DH is not a fan of seafood in general.

I haven't read a lot of the replies but I personally like it when people grade the restauraunts. One grade for service, one grade for food, one grade for promptness and one grade for ambience. Then a short paragraph about it and final total of the meal. It really makes it so much easier to break it down when you are reading all the reviews. I do like pictures but I rather read about the different aspects of the meal. Some people will claim to "hate" a restaurant but really when they break it down, the wait may have been too long or the service poor and those things should not make anyone else be afraid of going there in the future.

Also - suggestions are great too. Like what time to make the ADR's, where to ask to sit, is there another place similar that you prefer over this one you tried, etc....

I'd like one thread per table service restaurant review to allow for easier searching

I'd like photos

I'd like detail

I like it when it's anedotal!

I like full descriptions of specific dishes

yep, I want it all :teeth:

details on the food is a big thing for me.....like I had eggplant parm....well was there too much cheese, too much sauce, how big was the portion, did you like it etc.....
