I'm having second thoughts about staying at FW in a cabin. It will only be myself and my 3 1/2 year old daughter. I plan to go the first week in Dec. could you tell me your likes and dislikes on the place.

Thank You!

The cabins @ FW are beautifully themed and I loved having the full kitchen. What I did not like was the feeling of being isolated from all the fun and exitement. After a few days of using the buses we decided to rent a golf cart to get around. This was a bit pricey but definately helped cut back on all our waiting times. If you're looking for privacy and plan on doing a bit of cooking, then the cabins will be perfect for you. Otherwise, I think I would reconsider. I wish you all the best!

While I love the cabins, it is the only place we stay, my husband said he feels like we are in the middle of no where! He also wants to be around some excitement, like the Boardwalk or Yacht and Beach club. I will be going in two weeks and it will just be myself and my 2 sons in our cabin. I suggested to them that we stay somewhere else but they voted for the cabins. Your daughter will love the pony rides and the petting zoo also the nightly campfire and seeing Chip and Dale there. They also have twio nice stores at FW that sell gifts and a small selection of groceries.:wave2:

While my family has stayed in the cabins and loves them, I think by looking at your post, this place will be a little overwhelming to you without any help for your toddler. You may feel a little isolated, especially without the help of a golf cart. We stayed at the cabins, Pop Century, and French Quarter in June. My 3 year old grandson loved them all, especially the bunk beds in the cabins. However, I think the Pop Century was especially fun for him because of the water jet play area and baby pool. He loved the slide at the POFQ, but in December it may be a bit cool for the pool. If it were me and I was traveling alone with my grandson, I would stay at the Pop Century or possibly one of the resorts on the monorail. We have not stayed at the deluxe resorts yet, but if you have the money for it, it may be worth a try. Moving around to the parks with a toddler can be trying at times. I don't want to sway you from your plans, but you may find that at the end of a day in the parks you still are another bus ride away from your cabin. By that I mean that once you return to FW, you must catch another bus that runs the route inside the campground to the cabin loops. The campground itself is a beautiful and relaxing place, don't get me wrong. But I think with just the two of you I would look at something a little more convenient transportation wise. There is a nice boat at the campgrounds which goes to the Magic Kingdom, but you still would have to take a bus from your cabin to the boat launch area to get there.

I hope that helps. I don't want to confuse you any further. Good luck with your planning, and have fun!

I haven't stayed at the cabins before, but would only consider it if I had all of my family with me (and it would therefore be a place my family could fit into without getting two rooms). When I suggested the cabins in the past, however, my older kids didn't want to be that far removed from the action.

When I went to WDW in Feb with my 4yo we stayed at Pop. I hope to bring him again this fall and plan to stay at POFQ or another moderate since he would like the pools. I plan to bring my 10yo in January and will then probably stay at Pop since it will be too cold to do much swimming.

With just the 2 of you... I would never stay there. The cabins are very nice...when you have your family & you need the space. Your daughter would probably like one of the Value Resorts due to the large icons at each one of them (just my personal opinion seeing what mine liked best at that age)...
When you are staying at the cabins, you either need the Golf Cart or you must bus it everywhere...even to the pool. If you are willing to spend the money (which can be just about the price of the cabins)... I would stay at the Poly. The theme is beautiful, you have the monorail, ferry & bus service. There is nothing more convient than jumping on the monorail from the MK to the room for a quick relaxing break... and since she is only 3 1/2 I would guess that the MK is where most of your time will be spent.

I absolutely agree with the other replies.
We stayed in June 2 years ago.

The cabin itself is great..roomy and themed well...
BUT
we did feel isolated
We got stuck in Cabin a few days with heavy heavy heavy all day rain
We rented an extremely expensive golf cart, which while fun, wasn't really necessary.
It was too quiet and isolated for me. MY kids loved the all-stars and the contemporary so much more.

and watch out for those snakes!

I too love the cabins! Stayed there for the 1st time in April and will do so again next May. That said, I would not stay there with just me and a toddler. I would feel like it would be a waste of all that space in the cabin and I would be more difficult to get around(taking multiple buses). If I were the OP, I would stay a different resort and visit the campground for some of the activities such as the petting zoo and pony rides. JMO

I don't like the idea of camping while on vacation at WDW. There is no way I'd stay there with a toddler. It is so remote and really oversized for just the two of you. Can't you get a hotel room? With the money you are spending on a cabin I would book a room at one of the monorail resorts. I recommend the Poly.

We also enjoy the FW cabins very much, but I think FW is a great place to stay with a larger group especially if you get cabins near each other. The full kitchen is a great convenience.

But, FW is a large place, if you don't rent a golf cart you will have to take an internal bus to get to the boat dock to MK and to get to the other buses to the other parks. (that means lugging a stroller on 2 buses) If you have a car you can drive to the park, but that's still not as convenient as taking WDW transportation (especially with a toddler). And as another poster mentioned, if it rains, then it will be a real hassle and if it's just the 2 of you, there is a definite tendency to feel isolated.

KEEP IN MIND, by the time you pay to rent a golf cart and for the cabin nightly rate, you'll be WAY INTO the same rate scale as what many of the deluxe resort rooms cost (even on the monorail line).

I take my almost 6 yr old dd quite frequently to WDW myself, (I started taking her myself when she had just turned 4). From my experiences, I would HIGHLY recommend staying in a deluxe resort (WL is ideal if you want to check out some of the activities at FW as the boat runs back and forth to both resorts & they tend to run some good rates during value season-first wk of Dec. is value season-which would probably be cheaper than a FW cabin anyway). The bus stop or boat dock is only a short walk from your room. Our favorite resorts are the S/D but once in a while we like to switch off to the WL.:p

The conveniences and amenities of a deluxe will make your trip much easier and less stressful. :p

I've never stayed at the Cabins but 2 friends of mine recently came back & liked it but mind you they stayed with their whole families. They had to rent the golf carts which were I think $40/day to get around & weren't too impressed with it overall since their past stays have been at Moderates or Deluxes. They missed the better pools & amenities. & the rain just muddies up everything. MY recommendation would be the WL, close to the FW so you can take a boat to enjoy some of the activities the baby would love but not so isolated for you. You have great dining options, a small beach, a great pool, boat launch to MK (short walk from the lodge) & it will definetely feel like a more of a vacation (to me IMO) ! Also the LOdge while beautifully themed seems a little cosier & closer to the action to me, we never felt isolated & if it rains there's nothing better than staying at the WL ! Just me 2 cents ! ::yes::

I have to agree with the majority here. My DH and I took my then 4yo granddaughter, while it certainly did not ruin our vacation experience it was not the best choice for us.

Not that FW cabins don't have a plus side, but I think the minuses would outweigh them in your case. The minuses as many of the others have pointed out are:
remote location
poor/ slow transportation-making it difficult to even go to
the pools if your further away
limited restaurant choices

Have a great time no matter where you choose to stay.

No one's mentioned one advantage I found at FW cabins with young children-you can put them to bed before you, then stay up yourself and watch TV while they're in a room by themselves hopefully sleeping. And there's a refrigerator for a late night glass of soda, milk, or whatever. Then in the morning, again with the refrigerator, the young ones get their breakfast right away. When our kids were little, they hated waiting for breakfast (I think they thought it was a rule that you had to eat breakfast BEFORE you could get dressed). So there, they could get their cereal and juice right away. We thought the FW cabins were ideal when our kids were young.

We liked the cabins themselves, but didn't like the transportation set-up or the pools. Unless you have stayed at this resort before, it is hard to picture how big and spread out it is. You have to ride the bus for the resort to get anywhere -- the bus/boat stop for the parks, the restaurants, the pools, the general store. You can't drive your car to the store or pools either b/c there is no parking. The pools are very plain -- no theming. This probably won't matter with such a young child, but the restaurants and even the store closes earlier than other resorts -- you can't plan to go shopping or to eat after parks close.

I agree with other posters that the only reason we would stay there again is to have room for lots of people. Definitely not where I would stay for two people. Not sure when you're going, but with a discount, WL or CS should be in the same price range. Since you'll probably go heavily on MK, those would be much better locations.

Actually, WDW has the nicest ,most beautiful campground I have ever seen & lots of folks in high end RV's stay there for extended vacations and do fine.:D

But for a woman and a toddler, I definetly would stay at a Moderate( or the WL), for less $$.....and the WL is a boat ride from MK , where you'll probably visit the most time.:D

I realize it is a great campground. I have been there many times enjoying the grounds but have never stayed there. We do camp quite a bit during the year. I just would never stay at a campground at WDW. I much prefer a hotel.

I just wanted to thank everyone for their replies.:sunny: I decided to wait until my daughter is older, more self sufficient and would enjoy the activities with warmer weather then it is in December. The isolation would drive me batty:earseek:

I now have one night at AKL Savanna view, 4 night WL Courtyard view, and 3 niths Contempory standard. Got to love those boats and monorails to get us to MVMCP!!!!::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes::

Congrats!! I think you'll be much happier. Save the cabin for when your dd is a bit older and/or you've got at least 1 more adult with you.

CR & WL are my fav's! You're going to have an awsome time!!
