What do you like about going in the summer?

We enjoy going in the summer primarily because we can take a much longer vacation since the kids aren't in school. We like to go for at least 2 weeks which gives us time to enjoy the parks and have some down time for relaxing. The pools are warm (that doesn't happen much in VT) and the waterparks are a blast. We have been in April and November, but much prefer July or August. My kids are night owls so the late park hours are wonderful and we can enjoy an evening show everynight, and not have to carefully plan a way to see each show.

No rehabs.

Fireworks and parades are scheduled every night.

No need to pull son out of school early. I did this for our Easter trip. I was stressed out worrying about the homework packets he missed by not being in school the last day.

No need to worry about son racking up a bunch of zeros because of missing classes

Parks are opened late.

Both water parks are open.

Eride nights.

Since school starts late here, we can take a summer trip and pay value price for our resort.:bounce: :Pinkbounc

:D

There are so many reasons for me.

I like the longer hours, the warmer weather, and even the larger crowds.

I've been to WDW in January and it just didn't feel like I was on vacation there. There weren't a lot of people in the parks, it was kind of chilly, and the hours weren't that good.

I'm not a fan of big lines, but seeing a lot of people on vacation and having a great time makes the experience even better for me.

We are going this Aug. This is our first summer trip in years........I am sooooooo much more relaxed knowing that the kids will not miss any school for this trip. Went in Dec. 2000 and they all had so much work when we returned. I felt horrible about it. The girls are both in high school now, and they would really miss to much to during the school year. I hope I can be positive about the heat like most you!:sunny:

I'm kind of impressed with a lot of you using "no school" as a reason. Last week, there were alot of people here on the boards saying it was OK to take kids out of school for a Disney vacation. While I can understand that some people don't have a choice when they get vacations, if you have a choice, I really feel that kids shouldn't be taken out of school for a vacation. By the way, I don't have kids nor am I an educator.

I never thought about going to Disney during the summer. My children right now are all under 4. Its nice to see when we will no longer be able to sneak short trips during the school year that the summer has plenty of pluses to recommend it

This thread is exactly what I needed right now. Positive upbeat responses to going in July or August. Like most others I can't take son out of school and I have very difficult restrictions at my work about when I can take my time. 2005 is going to be a very bad summer for us in terms of where we can place a vacation. My DS plays baseball and that goes to the very end of June, my brother is getting married 4th of July weekend out of state and my son goes back to school is mid-August. Virtually the only place we can put a trip to DW is somewhere between the 13th and the 31st of July. I too was reading all of the negatives and getting really freaked out so this was a very nice post indeed!! I am going to print it out and show it to my DH when he gets home to start shifting our focus from the negatives to the positives!!!
Thanks again:)

There is something about going in summer that feels like the 'right' time to go. The parks are running at full steam, and you can feel the energy in the air. Nothing is closed, and the day never ends. Although the prices are lower at the hotels, it is high season for all parades and fireworks. There is more to do than you can imagine. Also, as mentioned, I really like not having to jump back into the school schedules with the pressure of missed work, etc. Coming home is so much more relaxing, which makes it feel more like a vacation to me. :)

I have to agree with all of you who have mentioned the fact that a quiet park somehow just isnt the same. For all our bemoaning queue times and crowds etc, without the people, the magic doesnt work in the same way. We last went Sept 17th 2001 - so the parks were quieter than they would normally be for obvious reasons. We were able to go on any ride we liked without queueing. After a short while, we realised that we missed having lots of other people around to watch, interact with, laugh with and cry with. We missed seeing the amazement on the faces of the children. It made us realize that, for all our faults and foibles (sp?), as human beings we need the company of others to make the experience complete.
